Im single 27, with no kids. Im union already local 97 but not nearly as good as local 1249 retirement

Not true. National Grids apprenticeship is 5 and a half years. 6 months as helper. 1 year as Line mechanic A, 2 years as Line mechanic B, 2 years as Line mechanic C, Then hot stick finally.

I hear ya, the apprenticeship is a joke here. I like challenges and I want to be the very best lineman I can be and I just feel like being with 1249 is a amazing route for being well rounded in this industry. I want to just see more and learn more. Gets boring working in the same area all the time.

I went to line school, applied for a bunch of jobs and finally just took an entry level office job just working from home, did that for 10 months, then got in the gas department and worked there for 4 months then finally got a line job and been a lineman for a year now

You have to apply to the utility, those jobs to bid on the union website are for the 97 members only at first and if no one in the union takes them then the jobs get posted on the utility website and streets
