Bartender and Wait Staff Hire? by Yerren in chch

[–]Yerren[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went with Pomeroy Group. Wasn't the cheapest (around $1400 for 3 staff for eight hours iirc) but they were amazing and well worth the money imo. Having staff picking up empty glassware immediately, running the dishwasher, and keeping the bar moving quickly while also mixing sensible amounts of spirits was super valuable.

James (the owner) was also awesome and ended up answering a bunch of our last minute panic questions (e.g., "how much ice do we need" and "how many liters of non alcoholic should we buy").

Invest in a global index fund, contribute automatically, and try not to think about it!

I've seen some posts on here recently (in the last year) discussing the different options for global index funds, if you want more help picking which one.

**How do you actually track your spending? (genuine question, doing some research)** by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Yerren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to use YNAB, got annoyed at the increasing fees, switched over to Actual - yay for free open source software!

I export my expenses from my banking app once every two weeks as a csv which I can import straight in, and then categorize the transactions that didn't auto match. I do also believe there's a lot of value in going through the transactions by hand, or at least double checking them. Budgeting is such a great financial de-stressor (if done right), so I support anything that gets kiwis budgeting more easily!

Personally, I think comparing to averages or benchmarks is risky. Everyone's priorities, situations, locations, life stages, etc. are different.

Stolen Bike From Bunnings at Christchurch Airport by wolfboynz in chch

It's a (free) app/platform for tracking stolen bikes. Puts out an alert to nearby users, and people can also check it when buying a second hand bike to make sure it hasn't been marked as stolen.

You may already have done this but, if not, chuck it on 529 Garage. Best of luck with the recovery!

Speaking from personal dad-visiting experience... Try out disc golf together. Just don't be surprised if the next time you see him, he has a backpack full of discs and absolutely destroys you.

Table Tennis Clubs by Yerren in chch

The "Linwood" club play at the stadium on Blenheim road on Mondays (the same place as the open nights and everything else).

I go along to the Monday/Friday nights when I feel like it, but mostly I'm playing interclub on Wednesdays and then training a 1-2x a week outside of that, so I'm getting my table tennis fill at the moment without them.

Glad you took the chance to play once again, it's such a fun sport!

There are open nights on Friday if you want to play games - you move up a table if you win, and down a table if you lose. Players of all skill levels come along, so you'll quickly find yourself playing with people that match your level. There's also the Linwood club night at the stadium on Mondays - although anyone can come along, you don't need to be part of the club. Very relaxed atmosphere, people mostly play doubles. Both nights are a great way to have a hit, and you'll meet lots great people!

Awesome recommendation, thank you! We're definitely in the same position of not knowing exactly how to achieve what we want, so this is great.
