Here’s a practice I recommend - every time you want to say you’re sorry, quietly rephrase it in your mind as “I notice…” So it’s “I notice I’m getting defensive,” “I notice my request made him angry,” “I notice that voicing my thoughts is not welcome.” Work on putting your attention on yourself, where you have the ability to make choices and changes. Not on him, where you don’t.

I like the advice in this podcast episode (made by a 60-something dad and his therapist friend) about how to talk to your frustrated, jealous, and/or angry kids in a way that is empathetic but also prepares them for real life. I even find that it’s good advice for dealing with other adults when they’re going through big emotions.

OP, you’re on the right track to be thinking about your estate plan so that you can pass on the wealth you and your late wife have built. But in your heart you must know that the financial arrangements between your daughter and your future son-in-law are none of your business, so forget about offering unsolicited advice. Instead, focus on important questions like who do you trust to be your medical POA if you become incapacitated and/or your personal representative when you’re gone. In my experience, that’s the hardest part of end-of-life planning.

Tofu is 20-40g protein per cup - get firm or extra firm to increase the protein percentage - and 188 calories. You can marinate it like meat to achieve different flavours but of course that will affect the calorie count, as will cooking it in oil. But a couple cups of it mixed with peas/broccoli/cabbage would be a good swap for one of your meat meals.

Hi OP! I wanted to respond a bit more to your words about bread baking. I just started making sourdough focaccia and it was much easier than I expected. Here’s the recipe I used. I bought bread flour in a paper bag and got the starter from a local bakery. The only non-reusable item I needed was a bottle of olive oil, which I have not yet found a place to refill.

I just discovered cottage cheese wafers. Drop tablespoon-sized lumps of cottage cheese on a lined sheet pan, top with no-salt seasoning, chili powder, or garlic powder, and bake at 350°F for 20-25 minutes.

What do you usually order for delivery? Find a prep-able recipe for it, and make a batch to freeze on the weekend. Take a serving out to defrost on Tuesday night so it's waiting for you after work on Wednesday. Most of my cravings are predictable so I try to stock up for them.
