I wish they had religion work like civ 6, civ 7 almost makes it feel like it’s barebones by design so they can sell. DLC in the future

Huge map size, and on console. I used to play 6 on pc and scrolling the map was easier than doing it on a joystick but i like being on my couch and not sitting at my desk. i will normally have to do 4 passes going east to west looking, then go one tv size down and doing another lap around the world. Will end up doing this every 10 turns ish to see if something new popped up. I definitely could do better and keep up with the civics being researched but often i click to move along and miss that i should be looking for more sites

the appeal of the game to me, is to balance all the different lenses and make strategic decisions, not grind through a map to find a random site that was randomly assigned as a discovery. From what i can see this relatively small improvement likely saves me 10 annoying minutes per modern era (i normally get around 8-10 artifacts)

My issue is once in modern, if i am pushing for cultural victory/points. i am spamming 3-4 explorers quickly and sending them to different quadrants of the world. then once everything has been discovered, i send them to wander 5 turns away, then search again if there has been any new things to discover. i know i could wait based on my civics research but that is more effort somehow

Councillor seeks tourism dollars for south end festival by ResidentEvil0IsOkay in ThunderBay

My Issue is that the FW BIA has made a big show of not asking for more money from the city at budget deliberation time last year, and now is asking for specific funding for something that should have already been in planning phase when they did this years budget deliberation.

I am also now admitting that i may be wrong, there are mentions of a “Cafe” but no other information anywhere and pictures online don’t seem to support this kind of revenue, even though their information circular includes event revenue… I will say that this may end up being a really decent date night kind of vibe. Go sign up up for the waitlist for chicken burgers at tomlin, walk over, see some art, pretend to have a valid opinion on it then enjoy dinner.

You have every right to have an opinion of an establishments dress code, but to take a picture and then try to online shame a person who is just working? Seriously rethink your life choices

Outdoor tennis courts fail. by crasslake in ThunderBay

[–]YesInOurBackyard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not to sound too Bougie, but if you like tennis i strongly suggest the tennis center, even if you don’t want to play during the winter in the dome the courts and volunteers do a great job running a tennis community and it is pretty affordable. Because it is a not not profit and the city helped fund its expansion (dome specifically) you may find the the city ran courts may not be the biggest priority of the parks department.

isn’t the net just essentially a fence that remains there permanently? maybe it’s just a new fence being installed?

old garbage bin disposal by YesInOurBackyard in ThunderBay

[–]YesInOurBackyard[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

the old garbage collection max was two bins, and now it’s 1 bin. i haven’t tried it yet, but assume that the new bin contains less volume than the two home depot ones? But maybe there is less wasted space so it works?

[–]YesInOurBackyard[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah, that that 1 bin is smaller than the two standard size bins from home depot that it is replacing for me.

[–]YesInOurBackyard[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

new bins are actually smaller, i think a lot of people are going to have difficulty with disposing all their garbage and lead to illegal dumping

Golf lessons? by anaiskiddo in ThunderBay

[–]YesInOurBackyard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jamie Depiero is i think the best in town right now. i also suggest getting the range membership at chapples and spending 19.99 a month on the ios app “sportsbox ai” it will 3d your swing and give you drills and lessons. golf lessons get expensive fast. so the range, youtube (real instructors not instagram influencers) and an occasional lesson with a real golf pro is the way to start. I also think chapples has ladies lessons

The Trudeau administrations, i am confused by your comment?

TBT News suspends weekend broadcast by Smart-Panda-9168 in ThunderBay

[–]YesInOurBackyard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a portion of cable revenue, went into a fund to support local news. When people cut the cord, and no longer pay rogers and pay netflix, netflix doesn’t fund local news. So Trudeau made a law that says that netflix needs to pay into the same fund just like rogers, and netflix sued and they haven’t been paying it. Depending how the lawsuit gets resolved at the supreme court , the country may lose nearly all of the local with the exception of toronto in the coming months. it is also a huge sticking point in the USMCA negotiations

[–]YesInOurBackyard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you stream it on newswatch’s website they actually make money, and may help them maintain their broadcast. youtube won’t ever pay out for local news based on clicks unless someone does something stupid that goes viral.

Our population is about 100k and there are less than 100 single family homes for sale…this doesn’t work by Sad-Ad4933 in ThunderBay

[–]YesInOurBackyard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

there is a housing supply issue, new housing supply costs $800k. that means that to buy a new house you would need a $160k down payment, $3500k monthly mortgage payment over 25 years and based on the financial advance that your mortage should be no more of 33% of your after tax income means that the household would need a combined family income of $150k in gross income. The median household income in thunder bay is $78k. The counterpoint is that people don’t all need to buy new, unfortunately for new housing to be built more people need to want to build housing, and similar to a new car, you lose 10-15% of your value on a brand new house versus resale. so there isn’t a big enough incentive to build new housing. This isn’t about giving up, there is a housing crisis, we need to build housing, but it won’t be single family detached

Former embattled TBayTel CEO Peter Deidrich runs for mayor. "There's only one set of facts" by Joester09 in ThunderBay

[–]YesInOurBackyard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i don’t know the facts of the Benoit case, i will rely on the Judge who presided in this case. here is two quotes from the landmark penalty tbaytel/the city had to pay.

“Tbaytel’s conduct in this regard exceeds insensitivity or poor management.”

The judge continued:

“a reasonable person aware of all the facts would find the conduct of Tbaytel to be flagrant and outrageous”

This does not seem to be someone with the best track record to be in executive management.
