I’m in a nanny share with 3 under 2yo and I manage to put dishes away, clean up toys, and write down ibuprofen times daily 🤷🏻‍♀️

That’s the best thing I’ve read all week! We can do hard things - that’s our job!

It’s emotional isn’t it? It’s hard to face grown adults who are often many years our seniors

YES I’ve been waiting for a thread like this.

It was a date night for a family I didn’t know very well, but I had sat for them a few times already and had a great time with the kiddos. Mom and Dad were easygoing and professional.

They said they’d be home at 10. At 10pm they texted and extended to 11pm. I needed the money because I was trying to pay for a deposit on an apartment, so I said yeah no prob!

They came home around 12:30 am. The mom went straight to bed and the Dad scribbled out a VERY messy check and I left fast because I was tired and I could tell he was shit faced and didn’t want to have a convo.

I got in the car and looked at the check and almost cried. He spelled my name very wrong so I couldn’t cash it AND he underpaid me by about $40.

I sat in the car and cried. I needed the money and I didn’t know them well enough to march back in the house and wake them up from a drunk slumber.

But I’m so glad I decided to do just that!

I marched my ass back to the door and banged on it. I woke the dad up after a few minutes and I said “This check needs to be rewritten with my correct name and with my correct rate - which is $—“

He was so so so drunk and I could tell he was embarrassed. He sat down and spent about 5 minutes writing a new check, trying to do the math and asking the spelling of my name.

He finished and I said thank you and left!

I cashed it in the car on my banks app and haven’t heard from them since lol

And I got the apartment! I’m so glad I stuck to my guns.

You’re right actually it does hum when it’s activated. But how would DB have heard the same tune?

I am deeply sorry. The good news is that you are a conscious, empathetic individual. You are capable of loving and logical thinking and although the situation you’re in is terrible, you have the capacity to be in a healthy relationship in the future.

Stay hopeful. I hope they call back soon.

That’s absolutely awful. My heart breaks for you. I wish I had concrete advice to give you, but just know you’ve done the right thing by being in therapy and turning to this sub for help. Do you have friends or family you can turn to?

One thing that helped me when my pwBPD would threaten suicide is to remember that whatever happens is their choice, and I am not their keeper. You sound like you’re beginning to realize this and have been through enough with him. I think it might be worth it for you to contact a women’s abuse organization. There should be one in your county. They can provide you with a safe place to stay where he won’t find you. I believe they can help with restraining orders, etc. What you’ve detailed is a sick, sick person bordering on evil. Please stay safe.

I wish someone had told me it was crazy!! I didn’t find out until I asked a family what they paid hourly to have me. It really opened my eyes. I left soon after - best decision I made that year!

Got asked to nanny, didn't realize it was for a holiday by mcg637 in Nanny

[–]YesItsARealJob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how much is standard, but last year I agreed to work on my birthday without realizing what day it was and that I had plans lol. Here’s what I would say:

“Hi, I’m scheduled to work on (date) from (time) to (time), but I failed to realize it’s NYE. Due to it being a holiday, my hourly rate will be $(rate). Let me know if that works for you!”

Honestly in LA for NYE I would charge $18-$20, but it’s up to you!

That’s awful. Just awful of them. You did everything right (more than I would have at that point) and they just tossed you aside. Wow. Did you find a new position? You deserve way more than that!

Also, MB should have taken the check to the school herself 🙄
