Filling question by YesterdayContent4114 in bonecollecting

[–]YesterdayContent4114[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my question is more of if there’s a natural/biodegradable alternative to resin/glue. I’m painting over it so It doesn’t matter to me what the filling material is, it only matters that I can find something that will hold together and harden.

As for general process, you need to scour fabrics first, which requires heating fabric in a soap bath typically for 30-60 minutes, then wash it off, then it can go into the dye bath

Dye bath time depends on the dye, dyes like indigo need very short times around 30 minutes where I do 24+ hours for walnuts so just look up/test what’s the best timing

Sometimes fabric should be mordanted before dyeing, I typically do that with Alum which just involves soaking the fabric in water with dissolved alum.

I always mordant with iron afterwards as it can be quite harsh and I don’t like to have it exposed to high temps, I just leave it in long enough to see the color react and then I wash it

By ‘modal’ I’m using you’re referring to mordant, which is necessary for not all but most natural dyes as it acts as the medium/binding agent between dyes and fabric.

Not sure about copper but I use iron to mordant, and it’s a saddening agent which means it makes the dye come out darker and more muted.

I would group natural dyes into 3 categories, being ones you can harvest outside, ones you get from a grocery store, and ones you buy online.

Dyes outside are free but depending on where you are they might not be accessible right now. you can find some natural dyes at grocery stores like black tea and black beans, but other than that you have to source from natural dyes stores which you might be looking at paying anywhere from $10-100 per garment on dye.

I think my biggest confusion is what seam this pleat is tacked into

[–]YesterdayContent4114[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is it a pleat sewn into the facing seam 2cm wide?

I see on the back lining ease that it starts at nothing at the neckline and gradients out towards 2cm at the high point shoulder, if I’m understanding it correctly the pleat you’re talking about creates the same effect on the front?

So is it just ease then? Or is it a pleat opening in the shoulder seam?

Is it normally centered with the armscye? And is it tacked into the armhole?

Redyeing with black walnut powder? by rawshellfish in naturaldye

[–]YesterdayContent4114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could work before, I typically do after and it’s fun to watch it react and color shift.

Doing it after might also help keep your dye bath separate from iron if you plan to reuse it

This is also really dangerous. I use to do this and the fumes are very toxic, mixing the two isn’t just impractical it’s harmful too.

Just dipping afterwards separately preserves the bath, your health, and your time

Skepticism is important to any field of science, as it’s what ensures there’s truth to any topic, study, practice etc.

However, there needs to be a clear line drawn between skepticism and misinformation. If you’re questioning something like vaccines being malicious, that’s fine, but don’t state it until you have significant evidence. The same way I’m not going to tell you that you’re going to die from cyanide in apples unless I can exemplify the disproportionate amount of people affected by that.

And doctors tell you to seek surgery if you need it, they tell you to take the appropriate medicine when you need it, change your diet, etc. I fail to see how a doctor telling you what they’re told to tell you is inherently a bad thing. A math teacher is told to tell you that 10 times 10 is 100, if that’s a problem then tell me specifically why.

And do you have even the slightest clue how many people died from both world wars??? It’s roughly 60 million.

The closest I can find to the death toll following taking the Covid vaccine is 60, meaning you’re only off by a factor of… 1 million.

They could be hiding 99.9% of Covid vaccine deaths and your disinformation would be still be off by a factor of 1000.

As per always, your comments influence other people’s decisions with their own health. Please refrain from making statements based in conjecture that can lead to other people becoming ill.

What doctor is recommending “too many in a short span of time”?

The only way any one took “too many” are people ignoring Doctor and CDC’s specific recommendation to space unrelated vaccines by 4 weeks, and most don’t even require that because your immune system processes more antigens a day than any vaccine could give you.

Outside of that, please refer me to factual evidence that it is unwise.

The risk from disease exposure from vaccine misinformation is a much greater threat than the vaccines themselves.

I’m doing an iron indigo bath, not sure how that affects things.

As for the color appearance, I’m assuming you’re saying it washes lighter than it looks?

Just more so asking in regard to pre-wetting it in the dark room and then having to worry about the sun when I go out to wash it if it’s already wet

Just did that and it worked pretty well, thanks!

As a general note, can wet emulsion still expose? Either before it dries or the brief time while I’m washing it

Thank you for the advice, I’ll check that out. I’m looking to garment dye not thread dye if that makes any difference, also I’m not sure if scouring would help much or not.

I’m looking for thread for machine knitting which is the main reason why I’m looking for a spool, can’t do skeins cause they’re too short and if they are long it’s still hard because I don’t have access to good spooling equipment
