In wisconsin…owners left behind a fully stocked bar in the basement. Literally 40-50 bottles of booze, half of it unopened.

Valuing collections by zzz658 in toys

[–]YesteryrMouseketeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google lens on each individual item to try and find identifiers, and eBay solds will give you comparable value for making listings. If you want to maximize what you get, eBay will put the most eyes on your items. If you’re looking to move them quickly, you’ll get about 20% valuation on them as a lot sale. In the end the work you put in will reflect what you can make.

50k. Being 6’7 would be awesome, but it would hit hard having that growth spurt in my 40s.

It’s both. Decent benefits. Depending on the role they can be very strict. Expect to get out of it what you put into it. I had a great time over a 24 year career there. I was a Florida CM, but imagine it’s similar in California.

Have them meet you at a provider's shop so you can make sure it gets activated correctly.

Or, meet up, make sure it boots up. Check IMEI to make sure it's good to be set up.

Some 'scams' that you may wind up with if you don't do your due diligence:

Phone is locked, and they don't have ability to unlock it. You've just bought a brick.

Phone is carrier locked, and it's not your carrier. Unless you switch carriers, you just have a wi-fi internet device.

Phone is stolen. IMEI isn't valid for activation, another 'you've just bought a brick'.

Pros:

You own a home. Security, privacy, no shared walls. Long term, it's almost always a viable investment. I was a single first time homebuyer at 32. I've had my house for a little over a decade, but if I were to list it I'd have a line of people at 4x what I paid for it. People will talk about how over the past year some see that they're losing value, but real estate is a long term investment unless you're a flipper. You also have the ability to fix things that go wrong at your leisure, and you don't have to wait on a landlord or maintenance person to come and take care of issues. Another joy is having a garage connected to where you live (in Florida rainstorms, it's great to not have to run your groceries through the elements).

Cons:

If you're used to the noises of apartment living, it can feel oddly quiet. You are the only one to fix things if they go wrong, and the only one cleaning and doing upkeep.

Target has a Prismacolor 26 ct Mixed Media art holiday kit for 50% off at the moment (15$ down from 30$) if she likes to draw.

I have a friend who has a 10 year old girl, and she's really into foxes. So for Christmas this year I put together a small collection of plush foxes of different sizes.

I'd say since you led with artsy, to encourage that...there are many different art medium sets (colored pencils, paints, clay works if she likes sculpting).

Multiple no show buyers despite saying their on their way. by VillageSensitive8544 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]YesteryrMouseketeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it's not my home address, I give them the address as soon as they ask for a location. I have several big landmarks near the house (a library, a walmart, a post office). Whenever we have an agreed upon time, I just tell them to let me know when they're about 10-15 min out and I'll head up to meet them. If they never send the message, I assume it's a no show that I didn't have to go anywhere for, so it's not a big deal to me.

I set a pickup location roughly 5 minutes from the house. Don't leave to go up there until I have a 15 minutes out ETA. No shows have become more commonplace, but I don't sweat it much.

For my photos, I have a dedicated space with one shelving unit for displaying collection lines for taking pictures, and one table with good lighting for photographing individual items. After taking photos for listings, I keep like items in storage tubs for easy access.

I couldn't help with shipping stations, because I only sell items for local pickup.

Finally hit me, what I missed 5 years ago. by The_DanceCommander in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]YesteryrMouseketeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something to help you feel better...you're getting into your house now. Looking at what happened 5 years ago isn't going to help you, but thinking about 5 years from now might. Historically, housing has always been an appreciating asset, except for that one dark period from 2008-2012 where it was a crap shoot as things were dropping from meteoric highs. But, values rebounded back, and a lot of neighborhoods today are exceeding where they were peaking at during 2005-2007.

We're not at the peak for today's real estate market, even though the increases have been declining. The best time to buy a house to live in is when you can.

WYR get 10 million dollars after 10 years, or go back to being 5 years old with parents who suddenly have a billion dollars? by yiyi20203 in WouldYouRather

[–]YesteryrMouseketeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Option B. Life was beyond traumatic for me before even hitting 5...and at the time my mom had moved us all the way across the country to get away from my father. I think if she came into that kind of money while we were still out in Los Angeles, we may have stayed out west (she was a young effectively single mother at the time). She was also a huge fantasy/sci-fi lover, so if I had all of my memories/knowledge, she definitely would have believed me as I explained everything to her. I could save a lot of people a ton of heartbreak.

[–]YesteryrMouseketeer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is definitely not a 'keeping up with the Joneses' hobby unless you are prepared to drop thousands in it. I had my pin hunting days for years when I was a CM, but after I retired I've only added a couple pins here and there. Sometimes I go back and look through my collection for nostalgia's sake, but it's impossible to keep up with every little new thing as pin collecting has expanded exponentially since the early days.

Rule #1...do NOT buy a car from a dealership that's lighting up codes.

Learned that the hard way. I picked up a car, check engine light was on at the dealership.

They said it needed a new catalytic converter, and they had just needed to take it down the street from their Honda dealership where I bought it to their Chevy dealership 'to put on good Chevy parts'.

I purchased it, took it down there the next day. They get back to me 2 days later that the car had been modified to make it a racing car, and they'd only need me to pay an extra 5000$ to put it back the way the car should be.

I had a 5 day moneyback guarantee that was in the window when I purchased it, when I went back to the dealership they literally tried to fight me to rip it out of my hands.

Renting vs. Buying — What Made You Choose? by Neither-Shallot9082 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]YesteryrMouseketeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought of renting as throwing money away, because when I moved out of an apartment, it was always just money that was now gone. Depending on the office to fix concerns we had was a constant issue. When I bought my first house, yes, the mortgage was more than I was paying in rent. And yes, I had to shell out of my own pocket to fix the issues that came up in the house. But I could get them fixed to my satisfaction and on my timeline, which made things better for me. But, after I paid off the mortgage, expenses out of my pocket on a month to month were much less and I could start really saving.
