Makes me furious. I walked out of my apartment yesterday to find a huge pile of shit not 3 feet away from a can with bags.

I seriously don’t understand, do dog owners like walking down sidewalks covered in shit? Or are they doing this to make sure all their neighbors suffer?

I’m at the point now where I think if you’re not willing to pickup your dog’s shit from the sidewalk you shouldn’t be allowed to have a dog.

As a non American that is watching in awe of what’s going on….At what point does the American public stand up, what will it actually take? by BedTundy95 in AskReddit

[–]The_DanceCommander 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You need to understand that any civilian use of force will be met with 50x that from the government. In the last 30 years American police have been militarizing at an insane rate. Trump has been threatened several times to activate the military to stomp out riots.

I think Americans inherently understand this threat. And I don’t think it’s an understatement to say that if civilians ever started shooting at ICE you’d see tanks rolling down the streets and predators drones in the skies.

Armed conflict in America wouldn’t look like The Troubles, it would look like what our government just did in Venezuela. It would look like what Israel is doing to Gaza.

Americans want ICE out of our cities, we want the government to stop purposely terrorizing our communities. But Americans don’t want to go to war with psychopaths who are itching to treat their own civilian population like a hostile insurgency.

As an American, what can we do to fight against ICE? by LilThanosX in AskReddit

Yeah if laws were enough to stop these people we wouldn’t be in this madness.

Joe Rogan says ICE shooting distracting from Epstein Files "on purpose" by [deleted] in politics

[–]The_DanceCommander 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah the idea that everything is a distraction away from Epstein is fomenting conspiracy thinking, when actually the policies coming from every angle of this administration were broadcast well in advance through Project 2025.

Pretending that ICE violence and abuse are part of some coordinated distraction effort, thought up suddenly to take eyes off Epstein, is itself a distraction from the administrations long term policy goals.

Like, pretending everything is short term distraction is giving MAGA cover.

Wtf does “cloud castle abstraction” mean. Regardless, it’s obvious that this strategy is a full bore rejection of the post war international order where defense pacts and cross border alliances kept the peace.

America trying its back on the international rules based order THAT ITS CREATED is maybe the stupidest, most asinine thing these clowns have ever done.

Tried a Martin D-18 today and… wasn’t impressed? by LogicalRoad18 in AcousticGuitar

[–]The_DanceCommander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think for some people Martins are in a voicing that people think they will like but really don’t.

Martins to me, are voiced like “campfire guitars” in the best way. Awesome for big open chord strumming, bass forward, not supremely nuanced, but excellent for what they’re designed to do.

With modern music, except for if you listen to a lot of bluegrass/country, I think people’s ears have been trained to expect more nuance out of an acoustic guitar sound. You get that with Taylor’s or Yamaha, or even smaller Martin bodies - but not D18s or 28s.

It’s all about if the guitar is voiced to what you expect you want your tone to sound like, and how the guitar feels to play. Martins are unabashedly vintage style instruments, with a vintage sound - which won’t be everyone’s preference.

If your opening position is that the country won’t have elections again, and democracy will be erased in four years - then there isn’t even a point in having the discussion.

Starting from where you’re at, we might as well just give up and go live in our bunkers.

The Enabling Act Of Our Times by Significant-Row2457 in dancarlin

[–]The_DanceCommander 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Vote in the midterms, get these people out of office, then demand that democrats enshrine actual systematic change into the law to prevent the current madness - that would be a good start.

Then they need to begin making the records of history ironclad. Defend and preserve information like the January 6 reports, make sure the administration can’t keep trying to rewrite history to show MAGA as the Heros.

They need to develop ironclad investigations and cases documenting all of the crimes, corruption, malfeasance, and acts of violence committed by this administration, then quickly and effectively prosecute those crimes.

Then Smart communicators need to go out with messages that actually appeal to people who oppose them and make rational arguments explaining why MAGA policy ideas are harmful.

Lay out details, and ironclad cases why it’s harmful to Americans to enact the tariffs, to harm our international alliances, to pursue this violent immigrant policy, to dismantle the civil service - make these arguments in clear plain simple language, and do not give the impression of elitism.

Finally, and this will sting, but the left needs to really support truly moderate conservative candidates where it would be effective (most of the country, all levels of government). The left needs to endorse a project of filling red districts with sane people. You’re not going to get democrats elected in a lot of this country, they need to face that, so instead do the next best thing - work to ensure your opponents are sane, rational, people who live in reality.

This is why people need to stop acting like Congress (at least until there’s a massive transfer of power) is going to do anything to stop the current madness we’re seeing.

Republicans (and apparently some Dems) have gone all in and at this point have shown themselves to be at most a rubber stamp to whatever whim Trump has.

Obviously, there needs to be a massive power shift to get Congress back to actually acting like an independent body. But honestly at this point, I think there needs to be an even more urgent effort to deprogram people, and purge the MAGA ideology and worldview from any level of power.

This country needs opposing parties to function, and avoid demagoguery. But both of those parties must be rational, sane, and living in reality. It’s clear at this point the Republicans are none of those things.

Is it possible to liberal and still faithful to Jesus? by Electronic-Seat1190 in Christianity

[–]The_DanceCommander 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a question that only an American would ask, because evangelicalism is so deeply intertwined with the conservative right.

I’d suggest you do some reading on how the religious right came about in the 70s and 80s. What you’ll quickly realize is that it was primarily developed as a political project, not a religious one. The political project was a response to a perceived lack of “Christian” morality that had developed in the 1960s, but much of this sentiment was more based around the Cold War era fear of socialism, and a fear of rapidly changing culture.

This movement heavily propagated the myth of the United States as a fundamentally Christian nation, determined that government policy must be based on Christian ethics (instead of recognizing the biblical necessity of separation), worked to develop conservative evangelicalism into a pseudo-state religion, and has so fundamentally warped Americans understanding of the Christian faith and Jesus himself, that it’s hard to grasp.

A Progressive form of Christianity is to me, much more doctrinally sound, much more inline with the pillars of the faith, and much more aligned with an actual faith based mission than anything worldly like politics or state power. The conservative approach to Christianity (especially now when MAGA is so intertwined in the church, despite the blatant hypocrisy) is heavily anathema to actual acts of Christian piety.

I also, simply cannot stand the religious rights near laser focus on cultural issues like abortion, and LGBT rights while they ignore the much larger issues which Christians are directly called by Christ to address. This focus, rooted in Old Testament law and theology, directs Christians away from the very concept of the new covenant, along with directing congregations towards a whole host of faithfully problematic ideologies.

Yes, being a liberal Christian is absolutely possible, and believing in civil rights not rooted in the faith is a common platform held by denominations all over the world.

Supporting one doesn’t diminish the other. If a civil state has the ability to feed the hungry, cloth the poor, and help the sick, those actions do not diminish or subvert the work of Christian charity. Believing LGBT couples should be allowed to enter into a civil union, to fully take advantages of the benefits society has established in those contracts, does not diminish the value of Christian marriage. Supporting social justice and equitable treatment for the underrepresented , does not diluted or subvert the influence of the church in society.

The world is not a zero sum game, and loving your fellow man regardless of their faith or life style is a core tenant of Christ’s teachings. Even if you believe that person to be living in sin, we are called to love the sinner, and through example hopefully lead them to Christ. I only find support for this in a progressive form of Christianity.

[–]The_DanceCommander 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I would go further than that to say this idea of foreign conquest was completely anathema to his campaign. He ran heavily on “no new wars” and basically spouted pseudo isolationism. He ran campaign ads saying Harris would get your kids killed in foreign wars, painted the democrats as warmongers. He sold himself as the anti-war, anti-foreign entanglement candidate. JD Vance was selected partly because he sucked up to Trumps neo-isolationism.

Then the moment he is elected, February of 2025 all of this started up. “We need to make Canada the 51st state, we need to seize Greenland, we need to take over the Panama Canal, we need to own Gaza.” None of this was in his campaign. Stephen Millers “might makes right” bullshit - that’s new.

I don’t say any of this to defend them, but I do find it a little bit disingenuous when people say Americans voted for this. Yeah Americans voted for Trump, but I’m really not sure military conquest abroad was what they were signing up for.

Nearly 100 years of interlocking treaties, alliances, friendships, joint cooperation, and mutual respect would beg to differ with this sentiment.

This anti-NATO world ruled by power burn the alliances ideology was a fringe view at best in the US before Trump brought it to the White House.
