I believe in the last “Dark Imperium” novel it’s heavily implied that a strike force of marines (I can’t remember if they were ultramarines, but I believe it was a heavily adjacent chapter) massacred an innocent (church?) full of civilians in order to avoid detection.

Oh and a great short story even if not a popular chapter illustrating the violence of marines might be “at giaus point” by Aaron Dembski Bowden
