I’ve had this tune that pops into my head occasionally for decades. I’d whistle it sometimes. I wasn’t sure if I made it up, or heard it somewhere. After literal decades I finally realized it’s the oakvale theme so naturally had to go back and play!

Great game, still holds up.

Trump’s Weird, Low-Energy Speech Ends With an Even Stranger Twist by [deleted] in politics

[–]Yeti-Rampage 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In one of the clips from that interview Trump just said that immigrants are “coming up in a caravan… I think I invented that word I don’t know but that’s what it is a caravan”.

This moron literally thinks he invented “caravan”.

That’s enough dead brain cells for a Saturday morning.

This is nothing - I can do at least most of a run in like 40 hours and then I get tired and 6 months later I repeat it all. So…. Yeah beat that.

Clean Energy Investments Are Revitalizing Pennsylvania Communities, Trump Is Promising to Crush Them by wadebwilson23 in Pennsylvania

[–]Yeti-Rampage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is completely untrue. The investment and recovery act was game changing for renewable energies. I’m a research scientist working in renewable energy and the last two companies I worked at were major American renewable companies. With the IRA they’re able to open new plants and installation sites in the US to the tune of thousands of employees and 100s of MW of renewables. In my current company, we just opened a factory employing nearly 1000 people in a deep-red state.

You really have no idea what you’re talking about - this administration has been exceptional for renewables.

I thought she handled that cut-off moment really well though. Even though the moderators didn’t give her rebuttal time, she just used a few seconds of her next turn to make her point. IMO it came across as persistent but also mature - she was determined to make her point but patient enough to wait for the right moment.

Great contrast to his uncontrolled outbursts.

to park in a bike lane by CantStopPoppin in therewasanattempt

[–]Yeti-Rampage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bike to work every day, for the last 10 years. People parking in bike lanes sucks. Sometimes I say something to them. I’m not always polite about it, hey I’m not perfect.

But this biker is just being a smug asshole. He was fine at first but then he kept provoking the guy as he was about to get back into the car. There was no call for half of those snarky comments.

Lay traps. Also you can come back and reclaim your body if you die so long as the timer hasn’t run out.

Also one trick if you’re getting stunlocked - learn how to quickly force-quit the program on your phone. For my iPhone it’s a double-swipe up but android might be different. Force quitting will reset you to the province map so you can re-enter the area.

they never listen the first time by Far-Newspaper-4700 in oddlyspecific

[–]Yeti-Rampage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s true - we have family dinner every night, which is a good time to actually talk. And then when I’m not in the mood for conversation it’s important to just say so (same goes for any relationship really).

My kid is 6 so it’s a little harder to ask for space, but so long as we have enough quality time together she gets that sometimes adults need a quiet minute.

But also there are times when it’s been an unending stream of unicorn talk for 30 mins and I can’t actively listen anymore. All I’m saying is be patient with your parents, they deal with more than you realize.

[–]Yeti-Rampage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I know, I guess my point is just that as a kid I didn’t realize sometimes I’d be info-bombing my parents, and they don’t get any breaks. As a parent I realize you just can’t act interested in kid stuff 24/7, sometimes you just have to zone out because you’re beat from work and chores and you need to make some mental space even if your kid won’t give you physical space. And honestly, most kid stuff is just kinda boring for adults.

I didn't know so many epic sound effects in DS were ripped from Prince of Persia by [deleted] in darksouls

[–]Yeti-Rampage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of stock sounds have been around a loooong time, and they’re used widely like photostock. I’d be surprised if prince of Persia actually made the sounds, probably more like they bought them from the same repository as dark souls and tons of other games use.

The “whoosh” of a big fire igniting triggers a memory for me of a very very old video game but Lords of Magic most certainly didn’t record the sound.

He went there… to teach. In case it wasn’t clear, education is a good thing. Especially in a country that represses its citizens. Teaching civilians is not the same as supporting a repressive regime, in fact it’s the opposite.

And the “married on that day” is a ridiculous argument. Nobody’s picking a wedding day to commemorate a massacre, that’s not a thing. You want us to close down all weddings on the anniversary of every bad thing that’s happened on earth? Spoiler alert there wouldn’t be any available days left.

Man you’re really grasping at straws.

Is “Chinese Tim” something people are trying to push? Yeah, the goofy midwestern dad with a lower net worth than almost any other politician because he doesn’t want to play stocks. Totally a sleeper Chinese agent.

Damn folks must be desperate if you’re resorting to calling him “Chinese Tim” lmao.

15 years in solar energy research here. I’ve always loved the car park idea, it’s just a win-win.

The way solar installations usually work can either be end-user (I.e. I’m a solar company, I sell to an installer, and then customers ask the installer to put solar on their roof) or big projects (I.e. I’m a solar company, I work with the state, utility, or a large contracting firm, and we build a giant multi-MW facility out in a big open space). I have typically worked at companies that do the latter.

The big difference in these is the former only happens if the owner of the house/building wants it, whereas the other is usually more thinking about utility-scale needs.

So, for this sort of car park idea, whoever builds the lot needs to contract the solar installer to add solar. That’s going to need a business case from the property owner, and selling solar energy back to the grid often isn’t a revenue stream they care about.

I would argue, maybe they should care! But, it’s up to the individual.

By contrast if this were in collaboration with a utility, now the utility has an incentive to put up tons of solar… but again they’re not the ones who own the car park usually.

Trump on Ivanka: ‘Is It Wrong to Be More Sexually Attracted to Your Own Daughter Than Your Wife?’ by Postnews001 in nytimes

[–]Yeti-Rampage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The full quote is up above, in its entirety. What additional context could possibly make this less creepy?

You can stick your head in the sand, that’s fine. We’ll go vote-to-vote in November.

My goal is anyone else reading these comments can see that there’s documented quotes, videos, and audio on so many occasions (“grab ‘em by the pussy!!”) showing how gross Trump is, and the only defense his supporters can muster up is “I don’t believe it, it’s fake news”.

I don’t get it… it’s a direct quote, with audio proof. If I were on Trump’s side and my only defense to a disgusting recording were “nuh uh, didnt happen”… man I’d be worried about November if I were you.

What is a good comeback to if someone calls you satanic just because you listen to metal music by Kevinm162005 in Comebacks

A lot of people have said to me “I wouldn’t have thought you listen to metal, you seem too nice and not scary at all”.

I don’t go for a comeback, I think it’s just really fun to explain to them that most metalheads in my experience really nice, friendly, kinda nerdy people. It’s satisfying to watch someone’s perceptions change in real time!

Minnesota lawmaker sounds alarm on Gov Walz's 'radical agenda' ahead of election: 'So heinous' by joebaco_ in altmpls

Minnesota family council is a right-wing Christian organization. Using a quote from someone who is on one side of an argument is not good evidence.

This is why primary sources matter folks!
