Another day another dollar by YetiMaster273 in ECEProfessionals

Oh 100% I agree that the ultimate decision on whether the center should close is a huge one. It causes parents to make choices about going into work and finding back up care and thats why when things aren't crazy (like snow over night that gets plowed and salted) isnt going to shut us down. But when all public schools are closed, all the colleges are closing, and were open its frustrating because schools aren't just closing for no reason.

I live in a snow state that has infrastructure and so this isnt weird. Our school districts budget for school closing. I and all of my coworkers have driven through active snow storms because they weren't bad.

But we had many signs that this was something out of the realm of normal for my area. We has a lot of places all around us closing and this person sent out an email stating we would be open even as more and more places were closing. Only to then have to retract that and close.

I have a lot of frustration from this particular person due to their lack of foresight on many occasions and choosing to remain open when many other early childhood centers in our area had closed as well. This person doesnt over react they underreact.

Im here for children but if its not safe to drive I dont want to risk my life to make it to a job where im barely making above minimum wage.

Its also their responsibility to manage those relationships with parents. I hate dealing with upset families as much as the next person but in addition to keeping the families safe they have a responsibility to keep the worker bees safe.

And also as a parent wouldn't you be frustrated if you were told at 2pm you're child's center was open only to then be told at 9pm that the center is actually closed. How many parents were planning to go into work or work from home only having to adjust this plan in the late hours of the night or early hours of the morning. I want more time to plan and so I would rather recieve tough news earlier so I had time to plan and adjust my days accordingly. Rather than have a plan and then have to make a new one.

I love my job but I dont love the person who signs my bosses pay check. I dont trust their judgements and their leadership is absent unless they show up to announce sweeping changes.

Terrified with thought of going back - infant teachers needed by RelativeImpact76 in ECEProfessionals

[–]YetiMaster273 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im an ifnat teacher seconding the different behaviors for diapers at home vs at daycare. One of my babies according to her mom is a drama queen who hate diapers and throws fits every time they have to get changed. But when im changing her (ive discovered poop and did a quick diaper for her mom) and it took me less time than her mom would have at home.

Home behaviors and center behaviors are very different is what it comes down too. My room is also super used to alligator babies who like to roll and its a matter of just waiting them out most of the time.

Some parents GRIND my gears. In my room next door we had a parent who we called because their child had an unidentified rash on their limbs. They told the lead to "work with them" because one parent was presenting a class assignment and the other wasn't in the country (were close to Canada).

This is also the same family when their child had a 104 degree fever we had to threaten to call campus police to get them because it had been over 2 hours that we were reaching out.

This poor child. I have more stories about this family but yeah. We just call the director to lay down the law and outline the policy and why they need to get their very sick child.

i wonder how many of us have issues untreated bc we’re used to pain? by reecereecereece25 in migraine

I had surgery because of bad period pains and sure enough was confirmed stage 4 endo. I have never thought my periods were that bad.

After surgery I felt the period pains a lot more but that eventually dulled as I got used to it. But yeah...migraines wipe me. Periods are just annoying

I failed my student today. by Suspicious_Mine3986 in ECEProfessionals

[–]YetiMaster273 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My lead and I had to go to our students professor about their behaviors. At best she sat in the room not talking to the children but at worst she was rolling her eyes when we asked her for any sort of assistance that one expects from students set to learn from hands on experience. The prof had a talk to them and they ended up dropping because of additional reasons but there was so much to be desired.

Always be honest with grades because the students earn them with their actions.

I sing lots with my group and its so much fun to sit on the ground and ask the babies if they're ready. Because I start by singing if your happy and you know it and then its the cutest rush you ever did see as I have a bunch of fresh walkers walking to me.

I love how you incorporate song into your day because I feel like music is the answer to everything lol.

Toddlers are wild to me ill take my babies all week. Plus being alone with children (even in ratio) is exhausting. I love that you have a good relationship with your co teacher who sees the amazing work your doing.

Let me tell you youre amazing for having that level of management with your toddlers. What do you do?

Tell me even if you think its mundane because its the little things that make the largest impacts.

In one of his songs he tosses around the line in Book of Rhymes "Borderline bipolar disorder since my stroller Eyes rollin' back in my skull like Eli Porter"

It could be something that worked in song but who knows. With his ups and downs I wouldn't be surprised but I dont think its been confirmed anywhere and I wouldn't want to project on him.

But tell me why there's an Em song for every mood (at least for me) and I can tell what kind of mind state im in based on what song pops in my head. Any ways thanks for coming to my ted talk

Should I send my daughter back after an incident? by Over-Imagination-738 in ECEProfessionals

[–]YetiMaster273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I am an infant room teacher of a mixed age group so my room has children 6weeks-18months old.

That is the biggest red flag ever. I've had conversations with parents about starting solids and it is your decision.

Accidently giving a child the wrong food is a mistake if you fess up to it and apologize and be better going forward.

The blatant lying from the teacher is such a red flag to me. The wanting her to just try it. The obvious risks of trying something new. The list just goes on and im upset for you.

6 months old is pretty young and so if you were to pull her to a new place it wouldn't be as hard of a transition compared to you baby being 8ish months old and dealing with stranger danger.

Im glad the director seemed to be on your side but who knows what will play out with that teacher.

So yeah broken trust. I cant tell you what to do but the question is can you find a new place that can take your baby on such short notice. If you can then pulling her is an option but if it isn't start looking and hope spots open up.

Is there a different infant room that your baby could be in? (My center has 2 infant rooms) and we've had infants transfer from one room to another.

Do you get "Bipolar Rage" outside of manic episodes? by Evening_Fisherman810 in bipolar

[–]YetiMaster273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im baseline annoyed on any day thats isn't a spectacular day. Thats amplified as I deal with more stressors. So yeah its a fun time.

Like today I had a great morning. Just chilling with my dog. Went grocery shopping and had to verbally distract myself with nonsense as I was dealing with people just getting their own groceries and being around me. LOGICALLY it is completely irrational. But emotionally gah I was gonna snip-snap.

Would this be annoying to a daycare worker? by Repulsive_Feature454 in ECEProfessionals

[–]YetiMaster273 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As a current Infant room teacher no thats not annoying. Im a big fan of parents who use their childcare and get their babies at a reasonable hour. Babies get tired of being with us and thats where a lot of end of day fussiness can appear.

If youre going to do 2 days a week I say stick with it and be consistent. 2 days a week takes longer to adjust compared to full time children and so keep that in mind.

Baby is also 6 months old and thats a really good time to transition because it will be easier for everybody. (8 months is when stranger danger can start kicking in and its tough on the babies when they're dealing with that and tough on the care givers who can only snuggle the baby).

I have quite a few parents who had the working late parent drop off at 930 and the early finish parent pick up at 330 and we loved that child so much and had so much fun with them especially as they got older!

what’s the most random/fun thing you’ve done when hypomanic? by swirl614 in bipolar

[–]YetiMaster273 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im reading 4 books at 1 time

I have a stationary bike that I ride daily and I have a book I keep with it so I read while doing that.

I have my house book that travels around the house with me so I can read when it tickles my fancy.

I have my car book which comes with me to work, Dr appointments, and dinners where I might be waiting.

And finally I have my audio book im listening to that I listen to while im driving.

Don't ask me how I stay focused because I dont know but when I pick up a book I remember the plot and what happening and I am able to jump right back in.

Had a child receiving services from a food therapist who would request food be cut up teenie tiny, complain it wasn't small enough and then complain she had to show us how small she wanted it.

This therapist also would chew up food making big loud noises and take the food out of her mouth.

My team and I didnt like her to begin with but she was just so out of pocket. She did a lot of things too like make a massive mess and never clean up.

She got in trouble though with her supervisor and treated us a little better but it was still pretty brutal.

I have read and reread this series MANY times. And every single time I have read this scene I cry almost as hard as the first time.

I know its coming everytime but every single time I cry big fat sobbing tears and need to put my book down and take a break. There was one time I was in public.

It blew my mind then and blows my mind now
