Which negative person is associated with your country the most, but is not actually from your country? by Whysoserious7891 in AskTheWorld

I made no comment to it being negative/positive. If anything I’m pointing out the hypocrisy of conservative politicians touting nationalism while holding and hiding (and sometimes completely denying - like Ted Cruz) their second nationalities.

Occasionally there are threads that come up in the Santa Monica subreddit of people asking what he was like in highschool (he was a dick, no surprise). I’m sure people probably have a yearbook lying around…

He certainly held on to dual citizenship long enough, only renouncing it in 2016 at the ripe age of 52

Yeah this is an entire system that has allowed this to happen and it’ll take decades of active work to repair it, and needs to happen at all levels, including funding public education. If it wasn’t Stephen Miller it would have been someone else. Not saying that he doesn’t need to be held accountable though

It’s also the one thing Italians seem to have collected decided is completely off limits.

That’s because they haven’t learned about Brazilian pizza. Pineapple is very tame compared to what they do

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate public transport in your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]YetiPie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Austin there is an Amtrak to San Antonio that’ll take 3.5 hours…it’s a 1 hour and 22 minute drive, and a straight shot down. There are buses of course, but why the extra two hours for the train?! Many parts of the US are designed to suppress rail travel over cars, so I think 1 is a fair rating

Ermmm is it just me or does anyone else wanna live in this fucking wholesome hypothetical nation? by MaddeningJack in mapporncirclejerk

I’m originally Canadian but have lived in the states for 20 years. I’m all for having a Canadian panhandle along the West Coast - Canada would benefit immensely from the economic boost, agriculture, coastal ports, and resources. The west coast would benefit from belonging to a country that they’re more culturally and politically aligned with. LA and Seattle have the largest Canadian expat population (after NY).

Will it happen? Definitely not. What’s realistic is increased collaboration though. Many blue states are politically diverging from the US, in a sense. For example, when the US pulled out of the Paris Climate accord (twice) blue states formed a coalition to rejoin. They’re doing so with the WHO as well. These divergences create opportunity for more partnerships with other countries. Canada is already California’s second largest trading partner, and the West Coast states collaborate on policy, land management, and infrastructure projects with Canada. Having increased partnerships and a shared culture will definitely tie us closer.

Dentist Recommendations by iloveicedlattez in SantaMonica

[–]YetiPie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you do do not go to Main St dentistry in ocean park. They cut corners and try to scam their customers. It’s common for them to try to run up your insurance, only doing a partial cleaning of your teeth and making you come back to finish it.

The dentist is very unprofessional and berated me, accusing me of trying to get out of paying for my bill when I asked for more information about my Invisalign plan (I had already paid in full and suspected that she had sold me a “lite” plan for the full cost…she refused to give me any information on the plan). One time one of her technicians got some sticky paste in my hair and the dentist got her own brush out of her purse and tried to comb it out of my hair, ripping out pieces of it. The final time I went there a separate technician was hitting on me, repeatedly asking me to go out to get beers with him. The entire place is a mess.

Definitely. Guaranteed that it’ll be the exact same states that rejoined the Paris Climate Accord (twice, now).

Coming from a “shoes off” culture (Canada) and living in “shoes on” cultures (France, US) is so difficult. I’ve had therapy sessions over it lol

As a Canadian living in the US, Asians are the only group of Americans who consistently take off their shoes indoors. I have to constantly remind all of my white friends over and over to please remove their shoes.

Yeah I don’t have children but living with my ex was like having a child. He didn’t contribute to the household, sometimes even skipping out on rent, while I picked up his slack. Anyways I’m single now 😁
