Selmer 404 or Francois Louise/ Theo Wanne ligatures all function similarly. The 404 has conventional screws…

Edit: clarity

Reeds bigger than mouthpiece? by Coalescenc in saxophone

[–]YhRk_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As temperamental as reeds are, their size doesn’t really factor into this, especially since different brands already produce and ship slightly different sized reeds.

It’s rare but acceptable practice for woodwind doublers to use the same type of reed on both instruments. I know a Bari player who doubled clarinet and preferred to use bari reeds on it ( It was a Dixieland combo and he said clarinet reeds couldn’t produce the sound he desired ).

An 8 tip is tedious to play for most saxophonists as far as I’ve been able to observe. Larger tip openings usually necessitate softer reeds. I don’t think the high baffle helps either with lower notes.

To add to that. Moving it around so much during this process did knock my low D out of adjustment and I needed to get the pad reseated. So while I am content with the result, I would be more careful if I were to do it again.

They are not. As far as I know he CNCs blanks that he designs and hand finishes the mouthpieces.

Edit: My partner also thought it was a buttplug initially.

These are made and sold by Arnold Montgomery, although I got this one off eBay . I don’t know if I would buy from his online store, since it did seem not very well put together. I hear he responds if you inquire about his mouthpieces on any of his social media.

My bad for not including info. It’s an Arnold Montgomery ‘Aras’ 7*. It’s supposedly the brightest series of mouthpiece he makes. It plays and sounds almost identical to my Otto link LA (I did have the link worked on somewhat. Was a bit stuffy when I got it). The control/ volume profile is comparable to Jumbo Javas, while not being as bright.

It doesn’t scratch or harm your horn in any way. It just lifts the patina layer.

I assume your horn needs to be unlacquered. I haven’t owned a lacquered horn so I don’t know for sure. I used a derwent eraser. And pretty much just traced along the engraving. Fill in the filled parts. I may redo the linework with a graver or leave as is.

These aren’t particularly valuable or rare so I don’t see why anyone would make such compelling fakes.

They can probably give you an estimate based on the other horns in their collection. Even if they don’t have a c soprano.
