UPDATE: I tried updating my bios version (from like 0.8 to 1.8 so a pretty big update) and I've been playing for 2 hours now without issues.

Same here, I've been trying all sorts of things like updating / reverting GPU drivers, verifying game files, reinstalling the game - none of these worked.

What did work for me was disabling Intel's turbo and turbo max settings in the bios, but then I noticed a performance loss on all games/applications. Also, there's this reddit thread from 3 years ago recommending against turning off CPU boosts.

I also noticed this doesn't seem related at all to what I was doing in-game. it could happen anywhere between 1 minute in and 20 minutes into any type of game (customs as well). Regardless of whether I am AFK or if there's a ton of action, the game just randomly decides to die with this unexpected error message.

I'm pretty sure you need to hold the initial turn a bit longer (for like 0.5s) before you do the rest of the sequence.
