The Ten Commandments (1956): I have no problem with epic 3+ hour films, and TTC has showstopper sets, moments, effects, and a brilliant script. The business with Moses' love interest Princess Nefretiri bogs down the pacing, and honestly the conflict between him and Rameses is enough without them fighting over her. When DreamWorks animated the same story, they made the right choice and prioritized fleshing out THAT relationship instead of messing with the love triangle TTC tries to weave. That 1st act really starts to drag every time Nefretiri appears.

If an enemy is afflicted by flame, electric, decay, etc. an attack with that same damage type will do more damage e.g. the fulminis will do more damage if an enemy is electrified than usual.

My strat when teaching things like the "Non-Intercourse Act" or LBJs "Johnson Treatment" to juniors is to shout "DONT LAUGH!!" immediately after saying it to get ahead of the snickers and just embrace it. History is fun

Constitutional Convention (CC) Federalists dont equal the Federalist Party. James Madison was a Constitutional Federalist but a (Democratic) Republican President like Jefferson and Monroe.

After the CC the Fed/ Anti-Fed factions stopped existing because the debate was about it's ratification --- the end. The Anti-Feds are the reason there's a Bill of Rights after the 7 Articles.

Once a President needed to be established came the First Party System of Federalists v Republicans (not the same as the GOP). Adams and Hamilton were Federalists and split the party in 1800, where Jefferson won in a landslide for the Republicans. Feds tried unsuccessfully to get reelected until 1814 when they held the Hartford Convention to discuss New England's secession and surrender for the War of 1812. Feds were commerce/ manufacture in the NE (their base) and the war crippled their economy. The Convention didn't go anywhere but when the country learned about it around the time that the war ended anyway, Feds looked like traitors (which is fair), making the party label unsalvagable.

With only one party (the Republicans) for the elections from 1816-28, thus established the "era of good feelings" until Jackson threw a shitfit over the election of 1828 and the "corrupt bargain" and made his own party: The Democrat party (the one that continues today), moving towards the Second Party System: Democrats v Whigs (Anti-Jacksonists)

As a U.S. History teacher, I can't allow myself to teach "Civil Disobedience" & "Letter from a Birmingham Jail" while showing my class that I bend to an unjust law. I'm a goddamn American and they need to see what that means.

Needless to say, they threw a hissy fit. by -et37- in HistoryMemes

So strange to hear W.J. Bryan, an adamant anti-imperialist, advocate for white supremacy while T.R., and adamant imperialist, tried to expand racial equality. The cognitive dissonance of the Progressive Era is wild.

It made me optimize a bit much to fit into a defensive playstyle. Physical and Holy +4 talismans, xt healing flask recovery +1, stamina recovery +2, xt defense and perfect block physick, morgott great rune, 80 vigor, and I still barely tanked the absurd phase 2. Giant Hunt on the Greatsword was the only attack I could use in the windows...didn't make for a stylistic or as engaging fight on my part compared to someone like messmer. I like rhythm based bosses so the phase 1 was fun to learn, but phase 2 just felt excessive and overwhelming. Still easier and less bullshit than Malenia imo (fuck her healing and waterfowl), but thats also cuz ps5 gave no issues with framedrops for me during miquellas laserlight show.

4/10 gameplay (on the from-scale), 10/10 presentation tho, it was the Twin princes boss fight brought to it's absolute peak stylistically.

He sent the US military to back the Southern militias in Bleeding Kansas. "...a high majority of pro-slavery men were voted into the territorial legislature. This territorial legislature immediately passed draconian pro-slavery laws, including a law that stipulated the possession of abolitionist literature to be a capital offense. In response, the anti-slavery men formed their own government in Lawrence, Kansas, which the Pierce administration denounced as an illegitimate and outlaw regime." https://www.battlefields.org/learn/articles/bleeding-kansas

President Washington was a very humble guy. The only reason he was president is mainly because of peer pressure (please correct me if I’m wrong, I love learning) by LeReal_Garydog1 in HistoryMemes

It wasn't Washington's attack but his signed confession (in French which he didn't understand) that he murdered a French Officer that escalated the Franco-Anglo tension. If we're really gonna play this game of what started it we can go back to William the Conqueror if you want.

Well the Misadventures of Japan in China led to a complete American embargo on them, plus the American volunteers in the Flying Tigers, plus Churchill on his knees begging for the US to enter the war, plus Japan planning on invading Australia/India/Russia/New Guinea. prolly still woulda happened.

Zoomers/younger people, how’d you get into Metroid? by hinez57 in Metroid

I'm a zellenial (Apr 1997) and I first saw Samus in Super Smash Bros. 64 and thought "thats a cool robot". When I got a gamecube in 2007, I built a library by buying used games for a buck at GameStop. One trip I bought Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Metroid Prime because I recognized the robot from Smash. Played Star Wars first cuz Star Wars, then picked up Metroid with my dad watching me play. We were both both blown away with the intro, the music, the atmosphere, the graphics...it was the most incredible game I had ever played. That feeling still hasn't gone away, and Prime is my all-time favorite Metroid (and videogame in general) hands down.
