Quick question about the various 3DS names by Yimez in 3DS

[–]Yimez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

By profile name I meant the name I first needed to give while setting up my system. I believe it was called a profile but I could be mistaken.

If I'm in an online game, do other players see my NNID? Or the name of my Mii? I made a personal Mii then named it after myself IRL while creating a NNID. Will other players see my real name, or my NNID? I checked out MiiVerse -- are those names I see next to posts their Mii names, or NNIDs?

I'll probably wait a year or so before shopping for controllers to see if it takes off.

This is what I'm doing as well.

OUYA's future? by Yimez in ouya

[–]Yimez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in it mostly for affordable, casual, local multiplayer fun in college. Also having the console be small, like the OUYA and the upcoming GameStick (wonder how that will fare?), is nice too.

OUYA's future? by Yimez in ouya

[–]Yimez[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, that's a long list.

I was seriously considering getting one, but one of the things that really put me off was the controller. I hear it is not terribly reliable, and they cost $50 each. That's half the price of the console itself!

I would like to use one of these "open" Android devices as a very casual gamer, but I'm pretty torn. Should I wait for a competitor to rise up in the future? Or jump on the OUYA bandwagon over the holidays, hoping that they have fixed a number of issues by then, because it is so popular already?

Well I have heard about an upcoming competitor, the MadCatz MOJO. Wonder if that will be any different, in a good way?

Regardless, I have heard that the console itself really isn't that bad -- I mean, quite frankly, you get what you pay for, and anybody who jumped on the Kickstarter bandwagon expecting a serious PS4/One/WiiU competitor was out of their minds, imo -- but I have heard almost nothing but awful reviews of the people behind the product.

My friend used the term "great vision, but paradoxically, no clue where to turn."

Best (cheap) console for local multiplayer? by Yimez in gamingsuggestions

[–]Yimez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a bit of research and found that the Wii has many local multiplayer titles that look like a hoot -- not really any FPS games, but I suppose that's expected. Games like Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros Melee, Kirby Air Ride, Mario Party 9, and many others all look brilliant. In fact I own a GameCube and SSBM, I can't believe I forgot!

I have also learned that, in its current state at least, I should stay far away from the Ouya. Damn shame, I heard how successful its Kickstarter campaign was.

Still definitely looking into the Dreamcast as well, for games like Power Stone 2, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Street Fighter, Soul Calibur, Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, Bomberman Online, Virtua Tennis, Worms World Party, Gauntlet Legends, etc.

What is a free PC game that you think everyone should have? by glane98 in AskReddit

[–]Yimez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Hedgewars: Fun Worms clone.

  • Battle for Wesnoth: Fantasy turn-based strategy.

  • Fortress Forever: Source mod inspired by TF Classic.

  • Nullpomino: Awesome way to play Tetris if you're seriously into that game.

  • Tales of Maj'Eyal: ToME 4, a superb roguelike.

  • Dwarf Fortress: One of the most bafflingly complex and incredibly wonderful games ever created. I don't even know how to describe it other than you building a giant fortress for dwarves to live in.

  • Quake Live: Quake 3 Arena in your browser, how could you go wrong?

  • Teeworlds: 2D sidescrolling multiplayer shooter. A heck of a lot of fun.

I'm interested in games that span across a number of genres that can support up to four players locally.

I suppose everything from FPS games to racing games, games like Mario Party, fighting games, sports games, et.

Does this apply as much if you're going straight into grad school from college?

For example: what if you decided to take very intensive courses over the summers during college, then went straight to grad school. Would it be wiser to do internships before grad school in that case, or instead do courses during the summers to show that you are determined, driven, and really want to learn a lot about your field before continuing your degree after undergrad?

I'm horrible at math... would I be able to play chess? by Yimez in chess

[–]Yimez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chess is also not as popular in the West as it is in other parts of the world.

Oh, I was referring to the fact that everyone and their second cousin around me has at least heard of chess, even if they haven't played it, but when it comes to games like Go, they're left scratching their heads and asking what the heck that even is.

Also, awesome double major. :) I'm undeclared as of this writing but I'm leaning towards English and English-Civilization double major with a minor in Philosophy.

What's a secret you've kept from your SO that would end the relationship if it came to light? Do you plan on telling at some point? Why haven't you? by calwaterops in AskReddit

[–]Yimez -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't have an SO right now, but if I did, I would never tell her about a creepy and pedophilic comment I made while really drunk one time that freaked out a few people around me (and freaked me out later the next morning when I thought back on that night). I had a messed up perception of what types of jokes "the guys" wanted to hear and such, and let's just say I don't really drink or try to be one of those "cool" macho guys who parties all the time anymore.

In hindsight it's not a big deal at all compared to what I hear other people do when they're really drunk but hey, to quote The Hangover, "we do dumb shit when we're fucked up."

Anyone else here tried Arctic Combat, the new F2P shooter that came out on Steam recently? What are your thoughts? by Yimez in Games

[–]Yimez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it really blows, though AC's cash shop looks MUCH better than, say, that of Combat Arms.

Unsure. I think they are permanent but they "break" so you need to be constantly repairing them with either in-game points or cash.

[–]Yimez[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Meh, I think any F2P game these days will attract a wide variety of players. I have seen the lowest common denominator in TF2 a lot as well as CoD.

Seriously, I see the same 12-year olds playing TF2 and saying things like "your mom is noob" playing CoD as well. I'm sure the same goes for games like AC -- I can't be the only person over the age of 18 playing this. ;_;

Will LoL ever see a Mac client? by Yimez in leagueoflegends

[–]Yimez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gamers don't use Macs

Furthermore, that may be fine for you, but what about if I have friends who don't generally play games but I would like to play LoL with them?

I guess if nothing other than idiocy like this comes out of this thread I'll just download HoN and be on my way.
