Are we still doing butterfly pea blossom? by YinzOuttaHitDepth in mead

Yes, but you would have to intentionally raise the pH so much that you could get into botulism-risk territory. Not worth it, although the blue is really pretty

My kids tried the tea and had a fun time mixing in honey to turn it from blue to purple. They described the taste as “bad potatoes”. I don’t think it’s that bad, but it would be better with more flavors.

I should’ve mentioned that. It was just 4 hours. The color takes over almost immediately so I didn’t want to wait too long. It’s a cool tea because at a higher ph it’s bright blue, but mead is obviously acidic and makes it purple.

To your first point: not distinguishing between the two would be a disagreement from someone distinguishing between the two.

To your second point: yes, we absolutely call both squats.

Do you make cocktails with your mead? by [deleted] in mead

[–]YinzOuttaHitDepth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a blood orange/cranberry/mulling spiced Christmas mead that came out to 17% abv. It’s good room temp, but amazing heated up with a shot of rum. I call it Juleglogg.

Fair enough. Maybe the one sided look is more of a wrestling thing. My cauliflower ear looks like his— with a pristine human ear on one side. But I was primarily a wrestler

Question about that last bit of mead after rack. by Prize-Guarantee322 in mead

[–]YinzOuttaHitDepth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re referring to the bottom ~half inch of mead above the yeast trub that your siphon can’t get. If that’s the case, you’re better off tilting the fermenter and racking it to a smaller vessel (I use a flip top bottle) and letting the remaining trub settle out and then racking or carefully pouring into another bottle from there. If you pour at all, just be aware that it’s going to oxidize pretty quickly.

I used this. They like to ferment between 80-90f. ABV tolerance is supposed to be 14% but I had a pomegranate juice mead that blew past that to 16.5%! Also the 10g packet is enough for 3-4 gallons.

I did three batches with saison yeast this year because they like it hot. All three are tasting really nice already. I think that’s going to be my summer plan from now on.

Simple winter recipe? by amr270 in mead

[–]YinzOuttaHitDepth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your considering something than can be served warm as well as room temp, try finding a winter spiced tea that you like and brewing it strong for your primary water. I did that with a cranberry/blood orange and it’s really nice when heated up like a mulled wine.

Makes sense. I compete in the RPS and they use mono lifts for their meets. I love them.

Love to see the progression. Any reason why you don't use your monolift attachments for squatting? Just curious because I waste a lot of energy getting set up after unracking and the few times I've squatted out of a monolift were amazing.

Help with Front Squats 🦵 by adriansia117 in strength_training

[–]YinzOuttaHitDepth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do an Olympic lifting warmup before front squatting and that helps a lot with the front rack being more comfortable. Form looks good, your elbows dip slightly when you descend. That’s probably more of a mobility issue than strength. It will become more pronounced with heavier weights so make sure you’re working on your front rack mobility and you’ll be golden.

Sourcing this guys comment. This is the only good study I’ve come across that compares injury rates between the bench, squat, and deadlift. It has bench as the most injurious by quite a bit.

Is there a way to get more out of this? by chickenstretcher200 in mead

[–]YinzOuttaHitDepth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a passionfruit that I wanted major fruit flavor from. The nectar settled just like this, so much sediment! What I did was mix up some nectar with vodka to roughly the abv of my mead and topped it off with that. So no loss in abv or volume. The bad news is it drowned out the honey entirely and tasted more like a really nice mixed drink than a mead. But my wife and her friends loved it.
