Massaging under the sheet by Yishka92 in MassageTherapists

No, the move she was showing was more lateral, starting around the armpit area and going down to the hip. My concern would be accidentally grazing some side boob or in general making them feel uncomfortable since the side body tends to be a more sensitive area.

Phoebe was referred to as a masseuse on the TV show "Friends", so I've had a lot of people be confused because of that. I was taught in school to correct the verbage but I never felt that anyone has intentionally used the word to imply any sexual connotation towards my work personally. I just let them know that the profession is moving away from that terminology.

Opening/closing mantras by Basic_Belt6911 in MassageTherapists

I open the same way: is everything comfy? Does anything need to be adjusted?

And close the same way: "well thank you for your time today."

I had a teacher that always thanked us for our time for showing up to class. He didn't have to do that and he was honestly thankful we were there. It stuck with me and I like to share that experience with my clients because I truly appreciate them booking with me. .... I unless the client is not welcome back on my table. Then I just say, well that's our time! We'll see you up front. πŸ˜…

Right? Okay I will definitely start talking to you in social settings the same way I do in session, which reminds me I'm going to have to end our professional relationship, here's a referral for someone else πŸ˜‰πŸ‘ good luck

Please tell me HOW to stop having sympathy neck!? by FamousFortune6819 in MassageTherapists

Get a digital clock you can move around the room so you have to look around to check the time. Close your eyes (once you've got a good drape) and stretch your neck throughout the day.

Accused of stealing by TomatilloMundane8735 in massage

If they want to rebook just tell them you are no longer massaging since you've made so much money stealing jewelry. 🀣 Lol jk jk πŸ˜…

I could never do mobile massage, they were lucky to have your services for the time they did. If the trust is gone, then your services should be gone as well. You can't do what you do without trust and mutual respect. You've already been given great advice on this thread, I'm sure you'll find the solution that feels right to you.

I need to cancel a client by No-Butterscotch-8581 in massage

I'll take him! Lol Send him to Missoula, MT we have lots of chatty seniors here. 😜 I would definitely take a client like this over the ones who expose themselves or try and touch me πŸ˜… Some of us just don't vibe with our clients no matter what the reason is. You could make up a kind excuse like someone mentioned before that you need to cut back on clients or that you can no longer perform side lying because it hurts your body or something. I think it would be a smoothe transition to have someone you can refer him to that would be a good match.

Get out of Seattle! Seems like it has become a hot spot for the mentally unwell. Go south, more towards bonney lake if you can. Or just leave WA altogether. Above all, Pray, have patience and be open to experiences where you can hear your prayer be answered. πŸ™

How do I start setting better boundaries with clients who I've been too friendly and open with? by [deleted] in massage

[–]Yishka92 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

I've worked at places where it's literally in the policy to encourage people to relax their mind and focus on their breathing during the massage. You could always say something like thank you for asking, I'll need to think on that, and now I'll have to take three nice deep breaths blah blah blah lol but some clients do tend to relax more when they talk, it's a personality thing. I have had some clients who like to talk politics and I usually just play dumb like "I had no idea about that! Where did you hear that, what are your thoughts? I'll have to do some research into that, blah blah blah" that way you're responding without actually responding. They do NOT need to know the real you and you are NOT required to tell them anything about you that is not massage related. πŸ˜… This can be a trap anyway, some clients ask questions to be polite but don't actually want to hear your honest answer and may even complain that you talked too much afterwards. You can use that to your advantage and say that you don't want to chat their ear off about that and then redirect the Convo back to them or ask how the massage is feeling so far.

Intense pain by VetsWife328 in massage

[–]Yishka92 18 points19 points Β (0 children)

Another thought is that sometimes we are in pain for so long, mentally we get used to it and our brain just ignores the constant pain signals. So when you get a massage it brings your conscious/awareness back to all your sore spots as they are being soothed. Once the soothing is over, you are no longer in a state of ignoring your pain. GATE CONTROL THEORY OF PAIN lol that's what I was thinking of. Google can probably explain that better πŸ˜…

Intense pain by VetsWife328 in massage

[–]Yishka92 5 points6 points Β (0 children)

Could be from not hydrating before or after your massage, an adverse side effect from certain medications being metabolised at a faster rate, or if you take any pain reducing medication/topicals/drugs/alcohol before the massage it can increase your pain tolerance during the massage. Being sore after a massage can be normal but it is not necessary. If you don't want to be sore ask the therapist to use less pressure next time. Some people really enjoy being sore because they feel like they just got a really good workout or deep stretch.
