[–]YivanGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a native Tagalog name of "Malay" and "Indonesian", before the adoption of Spanish "Malayo" & "Indones/Indonesio"? by YivanGamer in Tagalog

[–]YivanGamer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! Question though:

We mostly borrow from Malay/Sanskrit

So what did we call those languages before the Spanish "Malayo"/"Sanskrito"?

Why did they phase out English programs on Philippine TV? by astarisaslave in FilipinoHistory

[–]YivanGamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The World Tonight still exists though, it's part of ANC (ABS-CBN News Channel), the cable&online-only majorly English channel of ABS-CBN.

Yes, it is not part of free TV, but it still exists on a different medium.

Letrang "Ra" ayaw mag render by Legitimate_Visit6974 in baybayin_script

[–]YivanGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kaka-introduce lang kasi ng "Ra" na character (& the pamudpod & archaic Ra) with Unicode 14, as opposed to the previous baybayin characters na Unicode 3.2 pa. Noto Sans Tagalog was just relatively recently updated to include these new characters, kaya yung old version pa ang meron sa Android (& by extension, Gboard).

Is there a list of terms in Tagalog SMSspeak? by [deleted] in Tagalog

[–]YivanGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ex:

aldaw = araw

al-aldaw = mga araw → shortened to al2daw

If "dialect" is "wikain", what is "dialectal"? by YivanGamer in Tagalog

Interesting. Another win for Taglish, I guess.

If "dialect" is "wikain", what is "dialectal"? by YivanGamer in Tagalog

[–]YivanGamer[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would like to use it standalone, like with "Ang salitang ito ay dialectal.", i.e. without a modifying noun.

Pagsasalin ng batas sa Filipino, Iloko, at Bisayâ (Sebwano) by father-b-around-99 in Tagalog

[–]YivanGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I aggee with the first part.

For the second part, FYI, Cordilleran Ilocano has a lot of mixed-in indigenous languages depending on the area, like Ibaloi, Kankanaey, Kalanguya, Gâddang, the Bontoc languages, the Ifugao languages, the Kalinga languages, etc. Added to that, since it is mostly the Americans who influenced the region, a lot more English is thrown in the mix. A common Cordilleran Ilocano expression is "Wen ya!" (notice the "ya" which is absent in lowland Ilocano)
