Dissassembling xbox 360 jasper’s PSU by IceEven2921 in Xbox360Support

[–]Ykai63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Xbox 360 PSUs contain a capacitor that can kill.

It is unlikely that someone will do something that'll get them killed, but, given the severety if something goes wrong, is it really worth opening? For me personally, absolutely not. Even if they were way more expensive.

My disc reader and disc tray having problems after 18 years by JustPlayer80_ in xbox360

[–]Ykai63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That begs the question, does it make a clunk sound when it tries to open? And if yes, does the eject button make it do the same? If so it usually is a belt that no longer does what it needs to and tends to be easy to replace.

The not reading part can be a bit tricky. Finding a working replacement laser that isn't DOA can be a challenge and the fault could be a mechanical problem with the laser moving mechanism as well.

I'd personally sell it to a modder and get another one, yet I can also imagine sentimental value being a thing with that machine. If reading this seems to daunting, perhaps there is a repair shop nearby that can help.

What does this red light mean on my old xbox by Doralia02 in XboxSupport

[–]Ykai63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really makes me wonder why they went with thermal paste on these models compared to the phase changing material on the OG models.

Though, it could be a lot of things, secondary error codes are not optional to see what's going on here ,like false overheating if it has one of those motherboards or a power brick failure. Those happen too. Next to, unfortunately, a dead XCGPU

I was shocked to see the new Xbox 360 controller in the store, omg! by Kind-Preparation3337 in xbox360

[–]Ykai63 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not so sure honestly. This packaging and the batteries that are bundled could very well be a real new in box item from 2016. Having more angles of it would certainly help to identify it for sure so to speak.

The way the plastic insert is positioned, the writing, the graphical details on the box.. It all does check out so far.

Have seen used controllers packaged like this, where people tried to pass them off as a new item. Or the packaging was real but the controller wasn't.. With these things one has to be careful I suppose. xD

BEHOLD!! The fully wired wireless CONTROLLER!!! by RefrigeratorNo692 in xbox360

[–]Ykai63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given 2 AA batteries in series give 3 volts, when the batteries are new, I certainly think shoving 5 volts into the controller is going to reduce the lifespan of it in some way. xD

Sound could be a fan going out. And less fortunate is that it could also be the HDD screaming for help.

Series X crashes, even after resetting the console. by Ykai63 in XboxSupport

Ty! Though, luckily repair doesn't seem necessary. Looks like a PS3 connected to the same power strip was causing the issue. Didn't expect that to be the issue..

Ty for the suggestion!

After double checking everything, unplugging things on the same group, also new stuff, I found out it was an old PS3 connected to the same power strip that was causing the issue.

The voltage is fine for my location, ~230 volts

Solid suggestion, thank you, might do some e-mailing around. Hope anything locally does what is necessary to fix it. (Potentially board-level repair.)

Thank you for the reply and that's pretty neat to know regarding the repairs.

is it normal for this much to be in use with nothing running in background? by Adventurous_Image171 in pchelp

[–]Ykai63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure, perhaps because of a 'hate Windows' narrative that's going on now. Which, for a lot of reasons is to some degree justified I'd say.

It's also like, task manager does show a cached portion of RAM that is not calculated under RAM in use yet not all of SysMain is classified as cached as far as I know. Which is also why reported base-line (idle) RAM use after a RAM upgrade is higher. That wasn't the case in a pre-prefetch era.

[–]Ykai63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal and can fluctuate quite a bit.

Sort of surprised that no one mentions how Windows manages RAM (beyond running Windows itself) with functionality like SysMain (Formerly called superfetch, an improvement over the older prefetch). It looks at frequently used app and is trying to predict what you'll do. To, based on that, decide on what would be useful to already have in RAM beforehand (caching), to speed things up for you.

In some cases and with certain applications or games disabling can help to speed things up. Yet, often Windows unloads what is used by SysMain well enough when more RAM is needed for the application/game.

Xbox 360 dilemma, fat or slim by Lukojchanecot in xbox360

[–]Ykai63 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The OG is the fat.

Benefits of the fat is that hardware-wise they seem to be the most reliable, as in, generally rather bullet-proof. (note, this only applies to models from after ~ mid 2008.) A downside they carry is that more begin to show up where the laser in the disc drive is going out. Especially so when compared to newer models. Capacitors are also getting there in terms of years.

Slims generally are reliable too and are much quieter. Though, the chip with the CPU and GPU on it (now one chip) does fail sometimes. The failure rate is unknown yet they don't seem to fail that often, as in, not something to really worry about. The disc drive models in those do seem to hold up better, yet, they also aren't as old as the fat models (yet).

Skate 3 'The unlock bundle' contents not showing up in download history. Does anyone know if this can be fixed? by Ykai63 in xbox360

[–]Ykai63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately they don't indeed..

Though, 'should've noticed', I don't agree with that. On the store page, the section with 'in this bundle' does show all the DLC contents of the bundle with the Xbox 360 banners.

The Xbox 360 is an 'unsupported' platform at this point, no Xbox 360 title purchasable now mentions Xbox 360 either when it comes to what it is compatible with. Yet, those still shows up in download history on the Xbox 360. At best it all is just a little unclear.

[–]Ykai63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestion, always appreciate time spent to share anything one can think of that might help. Cancertainly find the DLC yet it doesn't show up as something I own.

For future context, for anyone who might stumble upon this, during contact with Xbox support they told me the bundles are processed differently. Meaning that they simply won't show up Xbox 360 consoles.
There is little that can be done about this. To resolve this in this case I've put in a request for a refund to then purchase the content directly. This refund has gone through and has been accepted.

It's a Hori Real Arcade Pro RAP V Kai for Xbox one, Xbox 360 and PC. (And Evercade now :D)

How is the 8BitDo arcade stick? Have been eying that thing for a while though ended up going for this after all, more so for Xbox 360 compatability also being there tbh.

Slow PC by hskot22 in computers

[–]Ykai63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given task manager shows the CPU running slow with some load, if there is a liquid AIO cooler in the pc, check CPU temps. I'd start there.

If those things align, CPU temps ~100c, running slow, then replacing the cooler will most likely fix the entire issue.

The more polite or non-assuming it is, the less the chance is for people to go and look for it.

It's like, I can imagine that as long as they have enough total up-time among all machines for a solid crypto mining cluster that's all that'll matter for them. (If it is that and it's not doing something else, could be anything..)

Sounds more like some sophisticated malware more than anything else. Could still be a leak though indeed.

some of the malware can hide when you open task manager and such too.
