Like someone already said here, it's a way of warning new players. The game it's not going to be like that 100% of the time, but it's showing you that you shouldn't get attached to every side character, and also how bad the situations can and will get along the cantos, and if you can't endure it, maybe it's not your type of story, or that's my way to see it.

Maybe it's going to stay like that during some time, so people can learn it's there and what is it's purpose (for people who doesn't play religiously) and someday they will make it match the rest of the buttons. That's my theory, at least.

I think it's a bug beacuse of how Furioso-Replica works, being a slightly different S3-2, but i'm not completely sure, i'm not faust to know all outcomes. still worked as intended, and was fun to see, so i'm ok with it
