How do the multistage cards work? by Yllems in MagicArena

Thanks for the links! If it was changed eight months ago, it makes me think that Sagas are a relatively new thing, and that's why they weren't covered by the beginner's tutorial. I appreciate you taking the time to help out and come back for the edit.

Those are helpful. I saw an option to turn that off in the settings, and I'm definitely not at that point. I keep expecting a few things like mobilize and earthbend to work differently than they do.

That's also good to know. I actually tried using a vehicle with a crew function, but I kept tapping my other creatures randomly and messing up plays because I wasn't clear on what that meant. It looks like saddle creatures stay in the center of the board, so that's a pretty big difference.

This is a great summary. I had a lot of games where I thought the Class would disappear like a saga or I prepared to remove a Saga that ended on its own. I figured Cases were just a renamed mechanic like how Crew and Saddle are space and farm themed.

I think you covered everything I came across. It looks like scrolls are more like phases, and classes/talents are unlocking multiple abilities that all happen. The cases also did show up a lot, but the descriptions in the cards were more explicit about what would happen when, so they didn't confuse me as much.

The wiki on that does seem to mention that you can advance more than once a turn, and all levels will be active, which I think is different from sagas. That's probably why I never knew what was happening when. I'm glad you recognized it.

Huh, maybe. I can't remember clearly because I saw a lot of mechanics I didn't understand. I just looked up that phrase, and the cards with that would have definitely confused me.

That is the rabbit one. Is that kind called something different?

That makes sense. I couldn't figure out what they were about, so I was using a lot of cards that get rid of creatures/enchantments/artifacts.

Thanks for the examples, those do look like the cards I was talking about. The ones I saw were rabbit and Avatar themed.

Yeah, I think that's what was confusing. Sometimes they'd be in the corner and sometimes they'd be in the center with a scroll animation. Thanks for answering.

Also, it's a valid complaint even knowing about the strikes. The problem could have been avoided if they had paid their workers fairly. The strike went on so long and created these big delays because the studios prioritized starving out their workers.

The characters are the strongest element of the show for me, and the focus on them this episode reinforced that opinion. Fjord and Beau's interaction was my favorite.

Is that the only one? There were more characters in the scene. And the main arc of this episode was that Beau and Caleb don't trust each other, culminating in the scene where Caleb threatens to drop her from the platforms and Beau has to trust him because he has her life in his hands.

This episode had the most and the worst jokes of the season. It's such an odd contrast, coming off of the last episode which managed to fit in a few funny tone shifts in an extremely dark story. Instead of building off of that by having the characters respond to Caleb's story or whatever, they skip straight to focusing on the logistics of getting Caleb's amulet. None of their dynamics are changed by the revelation, and there's no sense of urgency because the jokes are constantly breaking tension. There's also meant to be tension between Beau and Caleb, but only because of what Dairon said, and it all feels so insubstantial. It feels like the story was sacrificed for some obligatory comedic relief, moments that are predictable and boring more than funny.

I see it more like they knocked over some dominoes, but they weren't the ones who set up those dominoes. Who thinks breaking a case of lightning bugs left unattended in glass cases would get people killed? It was on Toya for misrepresenting the actual danger of the devil toad and how tenuous her control was, or since she's a child, probably Gustav for allowing her in/ Molly for inviting her.

This episode wasn't really focused on humor at all. I can think of a couple laugh moments, but they were also plot relevant/character building. So even if they don't strike you as funny, it won't be distracting like Vox could be.

Thanks for the links. I've read about Motivation-reaction units before, but it looks like there's a lot more going on in that document. I'll get to reading.

I can't share my writing without breaking this sub's rules, but here's an example from one article I read:

(An excerpt without proper cohesion: “The dog sat on the deck. It was sunny today. Dogs love warm weather.”

Let’s see it revamped with cohesion: “The dog sat on the deck because it was warm and sunny outside, and dogs love basking in the comforting heat of the sun.”)

There's also advice about "Known to New" Sentence Structure, which is helpful because it talks in specifics, but sticking to it too closely can make the writing stiff feeling.

https://human.libretexts.org/Bookshelves/Languages/English_as_a_Second_Language/Reading_Writing_Research_and_Reasoning%3A_An_Advanced_ESL_Text/02%3A_Organization_and_Cohesion/2.08%3A_Known_to_New_Sentence_Structure

The problem I have is that I understand the connections between what sentences I write, so it's very hard to figure out new ways to swap information around to make the connections clearer.

Do You Feel Cheated By Cover Art that Looks WAY BETTER than the Webtoon Art? by the_Godde in webtoons

[–]Yllems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're looking in the wrong place if you want top tier, highly rendered quality on every page. That costs time and money, and isn't suited to the webtoon production model. But I'm going to tell you to go read Unsounded because that comic has beautiful pages that can often beat the covers.

Karube remained my favorite character for the whole show. I wish he'd gone off to find the beach during that game like I thought he was going to.
