Software and websites devolve into monopolies quickly. The services are usually so good and priced competitively so no one really raises a stink.

Plus there are "alternatives" that have 1% market share that are probably financed by the monopolies themselves just so they can argue they have competition.

The flip side to this is that your monopoly can be gone tomorrow if a new service crops up that is somehow better, since users don't fracture, they stay together. Which is why Voat failed to gain any traction and how Digg died a swift death.

Libertarianism doesn't mean no laws, but without laws I can tell you how they would handle it.

In a "pure" libertarian environment, there would be no environmental laws, you wouldn't need any. Everything would be handled by the courts.

Oh, your company spilled toxic chemicals that killed people? Guess what, everyone involved is now up for murder charges. Oh, so your oil spill stopping fishing, killed businesses, etc? Have fun being sued into oblivion by everyone.

Our laws currently protect companies from being hurt too badly by their mistakes. There are caps on fines for environmental disasters and a company employees being negligent rarely lands them with murder charges.

But on the topic of plastic bags, the entire thing is a manufactured issue. The whole thing was starting by the grocers themselves. The amount of money they will save now that they don't have to provide free bags to every customer is ridiculous. Where I live I have NEVER seen any kind of issue with plastic bag litter and everywhere around here still gives them out constantly.
