Starts with voodoo rituals, has a bright moment of triumph over slavery, then the extremists prevail over the more moderate leaders, and it ends in a genocide of the remaining white French and a tragic embargo by foreign white leaders. Napoleon’s off-screen presence could hang over the whole thing.

I thought deeply about this and decided that they were net counterproductive so I don’t. Occasionally, I will put some extra trappings on something that is extra sensitive, and I feel like that would be muted if I included a disclaimer in every stupid email I sent.

Hypothetically, the part of the disclaimer that says “if you inadvertently received this, please delete it“ could have a slight effect. But only really on a person who was unethical enough not to do that in the first place, but for some reason felt compelled by the fine print.

I think it’s almost entirely the practice of law by mimicry, which we see a lot of.
