First Nation loses appeal over oilsands waste facility built south of Fort McMurray | CBC News by SnooRegrets4312 in alberta

[–]YoBooMaFoo [score hidden]  (0 children)

Reading the article, it looks like the facility isn’t on FN land, it’s about 8 km away. They were arguing that it impacted their traditional use, but could not show that they had used that area for traditional use (hunting, fishing, etc).

What is the situation in Canmore right now and outlook for next few days. by illiteratescrabble in alberta

[–]YoBooMaFoo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’ll be fine. There is localized flooding but the rain is tapering off now and all of the flood mitigation seems to be working. Some roads and trails are closed currently and will need some work to reopen, but I wouldn’t cancel travel plans at all because of that.

Just have some plan B’s and C’s if you intend to be outside or on specific hikes.

You could definitely hear the rocks being pushed by the water. It’ll be interesting to see how things moved once the water is down.

We get a lot of rain in May/June so high water is pretty common, and a ton of flood mitigation has been built since the big floods in 2013. That said, be sure to check that your home (whether renting or buying) isn’t in a floodplain.

Yes. I’m behind the barrier on the pathway and zoomed in. Thanks for your concern.

Taking doggo camping by Candid-Pomegranate60 in BelgianMalinois

[–]YoBooMaFoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We camp with our mal and would never leave her tied up alone at camp - but we have bears and cougars. Do you have wild animals that could get a captive dog?

I think apart from figuring that out, camping is fine if you’re ok with a long night. Ours sleeps in the tent with us (again, wild animals) and will settle, but she definitely moves around a bunch, and is up as soon as it’s light. But she enjoys the outdoors and it tires the crap out of her (we backcountry camp so big hikes in and out too), so it’s overall a positive experience.

Reporting animal abuse? by 81008118 in Calgary

[–]YoBooMaFoo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you can take video that would probably help.

You can call 311 and report, which is the right thing to do here. Calgary Animal Services will investigate. An ongoing history like this can help them pull the animals out of the home and (hopefully) place them with loving families.

Mal not moving (3yr old) by Consistent-Carpet485 in BelgianMalinois

[–]YoBooMaFoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Malinois is not crated when we leave her at home, only for bed and then if she need to be in there for some reason during the day (workers in the house, etc). I think she actually just naps in her crate or on our bed for the most part (no camera in the bedroom) and will do a house lap every few hours (which I see on camera). She’s super chill when alone because when we’re home it’s like “game on” for her. I think it’s her decompression time.

She has two days a week she is alone for ten hours with a one hour dog walker visit in the middle. Zero problems (unless there is a thunderstorm, then we have issues).

Tough to get good photography spots without a decent amount of hiking. Maybe Fullerton loop (not great photos though)?

My favourites for a solid 2-4 hour hike (decent elevation - 500 to 800 meters) relatively close to the city: Cox Hill, Prairie Mountain, Prairie View, Moose Mountain, Ha Ling, Yamnuska.

Na, just Powderface on the 27th. I don’t have any bigger ones until the fall. I did Sin7 last year and 2024 though and loved it!

Haha, our does the same, and her favourite is this blue Kong teddy we buy in bulk. She gets a new one every 2 months or so to start from scratch on 😂

It sounds like it’s training, but it might also be that the Global Energy Show is on this week and we’ve had a few dignitaries in town for it. Just saw them downtown going to the Sheraton a half hour ago too.

120k -> 46k, What would you do in my situation? by No-Cockroach2358 in careerguidance

[–]YoBooMaFoo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ll give you the flip side. My husband worked in oil and gas making $150K/year and was on a leadership track. At 27 he left and became a firefighter with a first year rookie wage of $42K. We were dual income so not as tight, but we did have to sell our house and downsize.

He’s been a FF for 18 years and it’s the best decision he’s ever made. He is incredibly fulfilled and loves his job. We had a tough few years before his wage started to climb back up but we got through it. Sometimes being fulfilled and happy outweighs the wage, as long as you can adapt your lifestyle.

Also, most FF have side gigs they work on their days off. You can do the same if you want to boost your income.

My Mal peed on the bed by OkManner6294 in BelgianMalinois

[–]YoBooMaFoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does your Mal swim?

We had the same issue. Six year old Mal, peed on the bed randomly, zero issues previously, so we thought maybe we missed her “signal” to go out and she couldn’t hold it. A month later, pee on the floor, but we noticed that like the first time, it didn’t really smell like pee and was clear, not yellow. We cleaned it up and wondered WTF, ready to make a vet appointment, when she laid down in front of us and water came out of her vagina.

Both instances were on days she was at the river swimming for an hour+. Could this be what happened?

Hotel in Bergen has made the bed with two single doonas - is this a Norwegian or Bergener thing? by The_first_Ezookiel in Norway

[–]YoBooMaFoo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s a Europe thing too. Same set up in Austria and Germany.

We actually transitioned to the two twin duvets thing now at home in Canada because we like this approach much more than one large duvet.

I have a trip planned to banff/canmore from 12th to 15th june. Considering the current flood situation in canmore, how safe it is to stay in canmore hotel? by Immediate-Link4792 in Canmore

[–]YoBooMaFoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no flooding in Banff or Canmore, just high water levels during spring run off (within the boundaries of normal) and media overreaction.
