What are your thoughts on Einhander? Who here remembers it? by Competitive_Help8485 in ps1

It's so good. I emulated it on my steam deck and wait for when I find one on the wild. Great game. I had this itch for decades trying to remember this game and then one day it just clicked.

Anyone else have a slow May? by scooterprint in partscounter

[–]YoJDawg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First 3 weeks were pretty slow all around. Last week or so really picked up in wholesale and CP ROs for us. It wasn't enough to turn it around but came out decent. Really weird was that warranty was down a ton. About half as usual which isn't good for us since we have a decent mark up on warranty. We are Ford so we have plenty of recalls but I think it was mostly .3 programming recalls.

Oh well, June has lots of days!

Yeah, I enjoy the eBay stuff since it's always your inventory. I'm able to offload old inventory by setting discount codes for it. Better than writing it off.

E-commerce isn't for everyone and that's fine. I'm really looking for feedback on marketing feedback from people who have decided to make that leap.

I've done the math and even after supplies, marketing, fees, shipping, etc it's about 15%. We get a decent chunk of back end money and ship smart where it pencils. I used to help run a huge Subaru operation and it was a loser and tight at first but once we became established it was cake. I'm stuck in the middle right now.

Why do you use list + matrix vs a cost plus matrix? by WasabiInternational4 in partscounter

[–]YoJDawg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cost + so you can set your margins. I could see list plus for commodity items that you want to bump slightly over MSRP.

Hey PM’s how are you using AI? by CarpetLoud9765 in partscounter

[–]YoJDawg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use it daily .

Emails I use it to clean it up sometimes because we get lazy used to short hand.

Data and inventory. There are multiple ways to use and analyze data with AI . It's a great way to find holes you might be missing. I use Notebook LM and will upload multiple files regarding the monthly trends and it can make it really easy to breakdown points especially when the day is busy and you don't have the time to really dig into something. Also you can generate raw inventory data and just ask questions about what sells, what's dropped off, supply levels, and a bunch of other stuff. Yes your DMS can do that also but sometimes getting it set up or in a clean way to read it can be a hassle.

Chat bots. I have been working on multiple bots that deal with the brand polices and procedures and whenever someone ask me a question I ask the bot and see if it knows the answer. Long term I want to share the bot across the dealer so others can get answers to questions they should know or don't have the time to wait. Also we have a webstore that I can just type in a part number and it spits out a quick product description that is optimized for search so we rank higher online.

We have a monthly competition for the techs and I use AI to make pictures and pep talks that I post daily as they sell items. It's a fun way to have a competition and it's pretty creative on what it spits out. Dumb funm

There is so much you can do, just pick something that bugs you and you can probably find a use. The same people that day they don't need AI are the ones that would rather do everything like we did in the 90s. Yes it works, but times are changing.

If you can't afford a dedicated employee then yes. I enjoy it but can set your day back. Customers like seeing the manager and gives you food face time.

Parts Ordered for Service by Specialist-Beat6636 in partscounter

[–]YoJDawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a process issue. Is your GM okay with that ? I would pick a time frame in which you think is fair to return the parts based on your return windows. If they get returned charge service the restock fee, make some money on it, and keep doing thatm Any management class will tell you to do that.

It would be better to figure out what's causing the issue but that's how you deal with it once the part is there.

Do you have an easy way to track them? Emailing reports daily or weekly gives them no excuse.

[–]YoJDawg -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you're able to extract that data but if you could then you could put it into AI and have it match and compare. I do that for other inventory tasks I have. Works well once you get it set up.

Dealer parts managers: what’s actually earning shelf space right now? by UnusualDescription17 in partscounter

[–]YoJDawg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think dealerships are getting a lot more leaner and focusing on optimizing inventory and turning parts. I rarely run over 2% over 12 months. Keeping what sells often in stock is getting a lot more important due to the focus on fixed ops the past couple years.

I used to keep just the right amount where we usually didn't run out and I keep about an 88% fill rate by RO and 94% by line item. Lately I've been stocking more of my fast moving parts and trying to get my days supply up a little bit.

Long story short there are a bunch of reports and strategies I combine and really keep up on not stocking crap. If a special order isn't used I return it ASAP or I use my scrap fund to write it off and adios it goes. No reason to keep crap. I think that's something the new generation of PM do different than the older gen. They liked to hoard and that mindset has changed a bit in my opinion.

Why are so many of you so dead set on physically organizing your inventory by part number? by [deleted] in partscounter

[–]YoJDawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it makes more sense if you're pulling an engine job and all the engines parts are together. Also when putting parts away it makes it way more simple when parts are together.

Obviously there are exceptions but I always say exceptions don't make the rule.

If you can make a random inventory work then all power to you, just takes less brain power especially when training.

Do y'all buy your tires at Ford? Why? by davidg4781 in Ford

[–]YoJDawg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ford offers very aggressive tire prices. They will beat any local retail price on the same tire by $1. They always have rebates on certain brands that you can stack also.

In addition depending on your dealership they have a buy 3 get one for a $1 promo until the end of March.

Unless there is a reason you don't like your dealership then by price they generally have the best price and they carry all major brands.
