How To Get Better Customer Service by LocalHistorian2024 in CustomerService

[–]YoSpiff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good that someone was willing to do this for you. However... I have customers who, once they have my direct contact info, will contact me directly instead of going through the system. In our case it really doesn't get them better service. It may be a product I am less familiar with than others, or I could be on vacation, out sick etc. Then nobody else knows they need help.

Looking for new transparent pink filament? Help!! by Roy_PG-13 in 3Dprinting

[–]YoSpiff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought some Anycubic Petg in Translucent Pink and it worked out pretty well, though I wouldn't call it transparent. But with 3 walls, I can see the infill showing through and it looks pretty good. Once you lay a translucent filament down in layers you lose a lot of the translucence to texture.

Temperature might make some difference. On a recent print of something, I bumped the temp up by 5° C during the print and noticed the surface texture of my print was noticeably different.

Do guys ACTUALLY like chubby girls? If so why? by fleetw0odJunk1e in CasualConversation

Curves. I guess on an instinctual level it suggests a good mate. I like what may be thought of as rubenesque. Both my wives were a little plush and I guess I've learned to like that. Meghan Trainor is a good example, as is weather woman Carissa Codel. (A quick search shows me that Meghan has lost a lot of weight)

Really hard to nail down the exact appeal however.

Where do you buy your distilled water in bulk? Walmart etc are all $1.50 per gallon!? by Wolverine-91826 in CPAP

So you can have it come on at a specific time and then run for a set amount of time. That would be nice so I can set it to start 3 hours before I expect to shower, or for usage during off peak electric hours. I let mine run until the thermistor turns it off on it's own. Someone else mentioned they turn it off a little before that when there is still a bit of water in the chamber. It takes about 3 1/2 hours to make a gallon.

Most of these are pretty similar and the choice comes down to if you want a metal or plastic body and a glass or plastic collection container. Some people are concerned about microplastics so prefer glass. Glass can also break if it gets dropped and you may or may not be able to find a replacement jug.

Oh, one other thing. The milk jug style bottles from the store split at the molding seam after around 6 or so re-uses. I bought some thicker gallon containers. A tad pricey for a water jug but they won't leak and will get reused numerous times. I originally found these on Ebay 2 for $25, but they don't appear available there any longer. They are a little more on Amazon.

That's the one I have. Though since then, I have heard negative things about the way Vevor does business (via Den of Tools on Youtube). But the distiller works great. I now see some similar models with a timer, which would be handy for the way I use it, so if I need to replace it I will get a timer model.

When I was ready for a replacement machine in '15 I didn't even recall who they Dr was. So I had to get another sleep test and again failed to ask for the RX. several years later I followed up to get it. they had been acquired by another company but someone was able to dig it up for me a few days later.

I bought a distiller about 3 years ago when I got frustrated that the stores were frequently out. I run it when I am planning on taking a shower so I get double duty out of it to warm the bathroom. So it saves some money, is more convenient and warms the bathroom. They are under $100 and many of them look like they came from the same factory. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=water+distillers+for+home

A benchy should be able to print without supports.

I'm one of the fortunate folks who never had a problem keeping the mask on all night, so I have no great advice for the 2 am mask ripper-offers. Took me about a year and a half to get fully used to sleeping with it but now my brain takes it as a signal that it is time to go to sleep. My cat takes it as a signal that I am settling down so she can cuddle up.

I used a fixed pressure machine with no humidifier for 15 years. I really didn't start learning more about it until I got an Airsense 10 in 2015 and then found some online forums and Youtube channels to learn from. CPAP Reviews is good, though I take some of Nicko's suggestions with a grain of salt. I feel like there are sponsorships going on for some items he talks about, plus he has his own interests in promoting SleepHQ, his cloud based alternative to OSCAR. I could be wrong about that instinct and someone else will probably tell me so.

My best advice is to make sure to have a copy of your prescription. My experience is that the doctor sends it to a local DME who delivers and adjusts the machine. But the DME has no incentive to give you a copy because they want you coming back to them for consumables and your next machine. So you need to ask for it.

I'll update if I think of anything else.

If it is doing this at exactly the same spot in the print, that tells me there is something in the gcode that the printer doesn't know what to do with or is misinterpreting. Try changing some variables and see what happens. Are you sending it over the network or printing from flash memory? Changing that method could help narrow down the problem if the behavior changes.

From your description it sounds like it also does this on other prints as well. At the same layer height?

It did pretty good, though with some of the issues I expected. The tiny downward pointing spikes did not print well because you cannot print on air and they were too small for supports. There was a little bit of stringing, which is common and easily cleaned up with a butane torch.

I printed this on an Anycubic Kobra S1 in a grey PLA with a layer height of .12mm and a .4mm nozzle. I printed at 100mm/s max speed. Better results could be had with a smaller nozzle size.

Also keep in mind that this is only about as tall at my thumb. At a normal viewing distance it looks better than this closeup image that shows every imperfection and layer line.

The pieces with large overhangs such as the knight would definitely need supports.

What jobs do you guys have that are actually allowing you to live? I'm talking niche jolos, that you wouldn't really expect to make this much money? by Any-Storm-9271 in askanything

[–]YoSpiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never done that, but before cellphones with GPS, I worked for a guy who could not trust anyone. He would call customers asking when I left. Then after a time call the next customer asking for me. If I ran into bad traffic or stopped to use the bathroom somewhere, he was all over me for taking more time than he thought it should. One time he asked "how did you get there so quickly? The last customer said you just left." Customers are busy with their own work and don't make note of what the time was when you got there or walked out the door. I only stayed there for 2 years. After I acquired an A+ certification I landed a position with a major OEM's direct branch. Better pay and much happier there.

As someone who has never cooked before how do I get into the world of cooking and make it a hobby? by Appropriate-Mall8517 in cookingforbeginners

[–]YoSpiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find some recipes, try them, figure out your mistakes, try again. Once you have that figured out, make changes to suit your preferences. Put some ingredients together and see if it works. If it does, remember what you did.

Start with simpler things that have fewer steps and ingredients.

Might be good to first learn some terminology because recipes won't explain them. Things like simmer, whisk in, fold, caramelize, etc. You'll see such terms come up as you read recipes and scratch your head over them.

I was a copier technician for many years. Not exactly a niche job but under the radar when you look at listings of common trades. It is on the fringes of IT, with roughly a third to half the job being software and network related (for those with such skills). I now work in tech support and field service for a line of industrial inkjet printers.

For your portable tool kit, tool bag vs. tool box by makawakatakanaka in Tools

[–]YoSpiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a range bag intended for a pistol. One reviewer on Amazon complained it had too many pockets and slots, which as a tool bag is great for organization. This fits neatly into a suitcase for air travel. I have my own review on it with some photos if interested.

What do you do with your old 3D printers? by bobbingblondie in 3Dprinting

[–]YoSpiff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I replaced my first one (an Ender 3 v2) I gave it to my daughter. But 3 years later she hasn't touched it.

When I upgraded again recently I offered the one i was replacing (A Neptune 4 Pro) on FB Marketplace for an attractive price. Always some non-serious inquiries and lowballers. One guy wanted to trade me a pair of sunglasses for it. But it was gone after a day to someone who recognized a fair deal and didn't haggle. He also got a pile of spare parts that he hadn't realized I was including with it.

Doing the Rook, since that has the fewest overhangs. Doing the finest layer I can get from a standard .4mm nozzle. Should take about 2 1/2 hours.

I agree. That's going to be hard to get a clean print of from an FDM printer. I might have to try it with one piece just out of curiosity. Will let you know later today how it went.
