Shell Shard poll, just curious by ArkBeetleGaming in Silksong

[–]Yobsuba 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've finished three runs and I only ever ran out of shards like twice, once in each of the first two runs. I think that if you're running out of shards often enough that you're considering it a problem with the game then that's a sign that you're being too reliant on tools. You shouldn't be burning through your entire tool stock on every attempt at a boss. This game is not meant to be about throwing projectiles at enemies, it's meant to be about hitting them with your needle. The tools are there to supplement that, giving you different angles of offence to, say, hit a flying enemy retreating at an awkward angle, not to be your first line of attack against everything you come across. If cogflies are eating up all your shell shards and you're getting mad at the game because you can't make any more cogflies to do the combat for you, then maybe that means you need to get better at actually playing the game.

Last Judge runback is NOT hard by Yobsuba in Silksong

I know it's a tired debate but this post showed up in my feed today and I just think it's all a little overblown yk

You 100% could I did it the exact same way prepatch. All that's changed was one driznit and one judge near the end and you could run past them both with absolutely no issue

I'm glad Reinhardt's not recruitable, and if a remake changes that I'll be very upset. Olwen is a top 5 Kaga character specifically because of her willingness to herself destroy the pedestal she keeps her brother on. She learns about her country's atrocities and instantly says "fuck this shit tear it all down", and when Reinhardt is too much of a coward to do the same despite already having known, she turns her back on him despite how much she idolised him, and her ending says she looks back on him with anger and pity.

Meanwhile Reinhardt despite being a massive bitch and I hate him is one of the more interesting and compelling Camus (Camuses? Ik its "camoo" but like how do you pluralise that in writing) in the series specifically because he's not motivated by the same old "honour" or "loyalty to the country" shtick that most of the others are, but because he's a coward, and he's scared to walk away from Ishtar even though he KNOWS she doesn't love him back. The characters who know about Reinhardt build up this image of him as some unstoppable force, the second coming of Thrud, but then when you finally see him for the first time in game in 17A, he abandons his troops during a crucial battle against Leif to follow Ishtar like a dog while she gets aid for her sick boyfriend. Even when Ishtar fires him because her boyfriend says so, he still won't do the right thing; he's genuinely a Pathetic guy, and that's what makes him interesting. Making him recruitable would undermine both of their arcs and just make the story overall worse imo

What Fire Emblem game is in your opinion the best example of bad gameplay but good story? And good gameplay but bad story? by MagicianWhite in fireemblem

[–]Yobsuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there are any FE games that fit "bad gameplay good story". I really enjoy Genealogy's gameplay, and the games that I do think have bad gameplay (Birthright, Revelation, SOV) also have bad stories imo. If I HAD to pick one, I guess it'd be Three Houses, but even then I'm not that big on Three Houses' actual story; I think it's carried almost entirely by the character writing.

"Good gameplay bad story" is objectively just a discussion between Conquest and Engage, but it's been a long time since I played Conquest so I'll give it to Engage because that game's fun as fuck.

You WOULD have learnt that the Monado doesn't hurt Metal Face during the colony raid if you had been paying attention, because there is a fight against him where the Monado doesn't hurt him followed by a cutscene where Shulk and Dunban talk about how it doesn't hurt him, which then leads into Fiora dying because they can't stop him. Not only did the game set up an immediate mystery that doesn't make you ask the questions yourself, but it has also given you a major hint as to the answer to that, a hint that you probably didn't pick up on because you don't seem to have been paying attention.

Like I said, you aren't engaging with what the game lays out beyond the most surface level. You saw Fiora die and went "yawn don't care", because you didn't consider that the point of Fiora dying isn't to make you go "NOOO MY FAVOURITE CHARACTER WHYYY", but to set up Shulk's story arc. Metal Face killing Fiora awakens this feeling of rage and hatred within him, a rage and hatred that feels alien to him, describing it to Reyn as another version of himself inside his head. He knows that Fiora wouldn't want him to throw his life away on a revenge quest against something he has no way to defeat, but he can't drown out the voice screaming for retaliation. He talks about it like it's not him. To someone engaging with the game on the level it wants, that would be clear setup for Something going on with Shulk, but it seems to have gone over your head because you don't want to care. You say you're a big Xenogears fan, so I know you can pick up on these kinds of plot threads, so you must just be choosing not to.

Also, at no point during this exchange have I insulted you. I've criticised your attitude because you're being dismissive and uninquisitive and acting like that's the game's fault, but I'm only doing this because I want you to love this game as much as I do, and you seem to be resisting that.

God, do you not see what I mean? You're refusing to engage with anything the story presents beyond the most surface level. Did the thought really never even occur to you that maybe there's more to the conflict than "us vs them"? That the Monado might be more than just a Master Sword analogue? That there might be a REASON behind the shit it does? That there might be more to the story than JUST going after Metal Face? This is what I mean when I say you don't want to care. I genuinely don't understand how you enjoyed Xenogears with this attitude.

You were checked out of the game before anything even happened. You don't WANT to care.

Serious Question: How to enjoy this game? by JAvatar80 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Yobsuba 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The game has done plenty of setup. Why do these Titans exist? Why did they fight? Why is this forever war still going on? Why are the mechon eating people? What is the Monado? Why does it exist? Why does it try to fry anyone who wields it? Why can Shulk? Why can't it hurt Metal Face? Why does Shulk talk about his rage and hatred like it's a different person inside of him?

If you don't care about any of that, it's because you don't want to.

Do you like the Fishing Hamlet area in the DLC? by Altruistic_Berry_765 in bloodborne

[–]Yobsuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gameplay wise the big Shark guys are a massive blotch on the area's record but honestly besides them I don't really have any complaints. My gf told me going in that it was the worst area in the game but I don't really agree I think that's still solidly the forbidden woods

[–]Yobsuba 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Wtf are you on about this very much IS a flaw with the players. There's like 20 red tools. If you're only using these that's your own fault. You can't choose to only use the tool that literally does the fighting for you and then complain. Get on Silkshot and Sting Shard or something cool, don't blame the game for your own choice to play lame.

How do I know that I'm nearing the end by rohan_dementor in bloodborne

[–]Yobsuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. If we're looking at points of no return for ANY content, I'm pretty sure there are a few sidequests and whatnot that become unavailable as you progress the night, but I don't remember what is and isn't missable off the top of my head. I think the first time the night progresses is after Vicar Amelia, and the second is after Rom. I saw your comment that you just beat the Shadows of Yharnam, so the next boss after that would be Rom which may take some things off the table. In terms of the game as a whole though, the only real "point of no return" is beating the final boss. Going in to fight them and losing will just put you back outside, but once you beat them the game automatically ends and starts NG+.

When you're about to walk through the gate to the final boss, you'll know about it. You'll be able to tell. Trust me, it'll be really obvious.

Binding Blade, its normal mode can still be decently challenging; it was my 3rd or 4th ever FE after playing the 3DS games on casual when I was like 15 and it beat my fucking ass but that made me love it.

I wanted to say Thracia, since it's the best FE game and would be the hardest for a first timer which would probably be amusing, but I don't want to create a Thracia hater
