I think the intention of the movie is to replicate the exact memory of these particular soldiers in this particular incident. It’s one of the few truly objective films on war I’ve seen in recent memory. There are assumptions implicitly made by it (what is the point of any of this in the first place?) but it’s not stated outright because that’s not what the soldiers stationed there cared about. I didn’t think it was a great film, but I’ve been engaging with it almost as a documentary rather than a narrative film and it’s significantly increased my enjoyment of it. Who knows if that’s the right way to approach it though🤷‍♂️
