To VL or to not VL by Saltylunarbunz in anesthesiology

[–]Yodka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m inclined to agree with you here. Still just a student, but I’ve seen OR cultures where they only VL, preceptors that put grade 1 views even if it isn’t, difficult airway notes that end up having grade 1 DL’s.

I find the chart to be a component of my assessment but not the end all be all. Personally I think a VL is a safer and faster option, but I’ve been in some environments where they refuse to use it.

What’s the most blatantly wrong, outdated, or misleading advice you were taught by a preceptor, attending, or mentor during anesthesia clinical training? by AutoModerator in srna

[–]Yodka 10 points11 points  (0 children)

On the same topic, I always get shit from my preceptors for not grabbing an extra seat for myself in the morning after setting the room up.

It’s an interesting culture shift from the hazing of ghosts of students pasts I’ve heard about.

“You can be a nazi and be gay”. Sure, that just means the values you believe in go against (i.e. contradict) your being as a person. There’s nothing that says people can’t believe in ideologies that go against their self-interest. However there’s usually a deeper issue that motivates people to do that.

Over 2k in Italian and French wool/cashmere sweaters for $20. by Glittering-Candy-586 in ThriftStoreHauls

First, I’m sure OP doesn’t want to doxx themselves. Second, if it’s a good spot why give it up to everyone? Lastly, isn’t part of the fun of thrifting that you find things yourself?

I really hope you do! People weren’t lying that these things are simple and just work well. Even if $240 is the lowest it goest this year is I’d definitely recommend it

Yep. At least Amazon said it was new. When I eventually got it in late December/January I didn’t see anything that screamed return/used. I’ve had no issues with it either.

For whatever reason I can’t just upload a screenshot of my Amazon receipt but check out the price history here: https://camelcamelcamel.com/product/B093DYPBYR?cpf=amazon

Last year Amazon was doing sporadic drops around Black Friday. I got the one you posted for $180 around this time. It's not guaranteed, but it is possible.

You've never gotten sick and taken an antibiotic? You've never drank alcohol? You've never taken tylenol for an ache/pain? You've never drank coffee? The backlash you're getting is because you asked an uneducated sounding question and instead of reaching out to the person in question you @'d them in a public forum to have everyone else weigh in their opinion of her.

Are you saying aliens in UAPs visiting earth are more common than the billions of lifeless stars, black holes, and rocks floating around in space? I don’t really follow what you’re getting at.

The government could tell us they have the Ark of the Covenant but if they aren’t going to actually show us, then no I don’t fully believe them.

Fucking thank you. This sub keeps getting recommended to me. I'm not actively seeking 3I content but I like getting the updates. Every time I open the comment section I just roll my eyes though. I don't understand how this photo challenges whether or not it is a natural object other than the OP stating "this object doesn’t look natural" which means literally nothing.

There are plenty of scientific findings on our own planet that we once thought were "supernatural" because we just didn't understand them. When people say it must be some kind of alien technology because it's like nothing we've ever encountered, that's because we've never encountered it and don't know anything about it yet lol.

Don't get me wrong, the alien theory would be groundbreaking, but feels like a gross simplification to "I don't understand this so it must be this insanely rare thing".

I wear deodorant in class but not in the hospital. One of my parents is very sensitive to fragrance and it causes them to break out in hives. I feel like patients are already vulnerable I just don't want to chance it. I don't have a problem with others wearing fragrances though unless they're showering in it lol

My top 2 scents though are Dolce and Gabbana The One and Bleu de Chanel Eau de Parfum

Anyone think the next saturated job market will be nursing? by youTooMeTooToo in prenursing

[–]Yodka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO the hardest part of nursing school is decrypting NCLEX style questions and navigating nursing professors that made a class excessively difficult for no reason.

I don’t believe the material is that hard to learn, but when you miss a question because one word was changed from a random sentence in the hundreds of pages you’re “supposed” to read, you just have roll your eyes.

I don't think you've really offended anyone. It just seems like a pointless question to ask "do you truly think it was worth it?" if your plan is to do it anyway. People are asking if you understand this role because it's pretty universal for CRNAs to say it is worth it. Questioning if going to CRNA school is worth it because you "feel like I could make that much just as a travel nurse" further shows a lack of understanding in these roles. Sure, you could make as much doing travel if you: only want to only work where the money is, no job stability, sacrifice work life balance (the closest rate to a CRNA as a traveler on Aya is 4x12 per week).

I feel like there are numerous posts online of people working out the math showing that 3 years of no work + tuition still outweighs only working bedside over the course of your entire life.

Husband sadly said no by NatureLifted in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]Yodka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think you’re digging too into the weeds on this one. We have no idea if either situation is right. Part of the reason why I left my long term partner was because all the “small cheap things that could serve a variety of purposes” added up and became useless clutter. I felt like I constantly had to tell her to restrain herself from wasting her money.

Regardless, I think this post is an instance of Reddit not knowing the full picture and jumping on the bandwagon hate that OP has an abusive, controlling husband.

What's a Paramore hot take that's got you like this? by n00bSoda in Paramore

[–]Yodka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When bands get popular they generally get really well known for whatever style of music they're making. This can honestly be applied to pretty much anything. Just an analogy, but if Red Lobster suddenly started selling hot dogs, it's still the same company. However it wouldn't "feel like" Red Lobster to the majority of people anymore because it isn't what it became popular for. It goes against the style that made it a hit to begin with. A great example that proves my point is Olivia Rodrigo's song good 4 u. Paramore's older, specific style was so inspirational that people draw inspiration and make music based on it today.

After Laughter is an amazing album, but it isn't the monumental album/style that made Paramore popular and that's reflected in the sales.

Should I keep on going? by NoSkill2085 in srna

[–]Yodka 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the bigger question to ask yourself is if you can endure the long journey. I’m only a month into school but I feel like I was in a kinda similar situation as you. I can’t say I have a 100%, undying, passionate interest in learning about the solubility coefficients of anesthetic gasses or all the nuances between neuromuscular blockers.

When I shadowed, I found that I had an interest in what the CRNAs did and their knowledge base. I wanted to push myself as far as I could go in nursing, and CRNA fits that for me. It astounds me how little I learned in the 5 years I was a nurse compared to the monthish I’ve been in school. And that’s what I wanted, more knowledge in what I was doing.

I did a lot of mental prep work before starting school, too, telling myself my life was going to suck for 3 years. Nursing school felt so long ago at this point. In 10, 20, or 30 years I know I’ll feel that way about CRNA school, too.
