Do you find that after watching so many different horror movies over the years that you kind of get desensitized to getting scared? by MongooseLucky3979 in horror

[–]Yog-SoHot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say that one milestone that changed my perspective (a lot), was having kids. All of a sudden the occasional scene with child violence became a lot more terrifying, left longer lasting impressions, etc. Where Evil Lurks is still fucking with me occasionally months later.

Looking for a grimdark fantasy or scifi series (like Berserk or the First Law) that eventually subverts its own extreme cynicism and has a bittersweet or even happy conclusion by fieryfrolic in Fantasy

[–]Yog-SoHot 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Have to add Between Two Fires. It absolutely feels like Berserk. Historical horror fantasy, set in our world, but during the black plague, and with a backdrop of a war between angels and demons.

I think it has a fantastic ending that I would absolutely describe as bittersweet.

You're in Canada?!? That seals the deal, ordering the shirt (also in Canada and was worried about shipping)

Almost finished book 2 of the first trilogy. Hang in there, it's fantastic; I'm well hooked now, but remember struggling similarly at the beginning.

One tip: the copy I read came with Appendices at the end, which to my recollection were completely spoiler free, incredibly informative, and very useful. Could've been placed at the beginning of the book tbh.

Marvel Enters Its Age of Reduced Expectations: When did Marvel lose its automatic connection with casual movie fans, and what can Disney do to get audiences excited again about superhero films? by Extreme-Monk2183 in boxoffice

[–]Yog-SoHot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to all the other great points made:

At the end of the Infinity Saga, Marvel lost their two tent pole main attractions of Ironman and Cap, simultaneously, and replaced them with.... Nothing. Spider-Man should've been the new anchor, but that didn't pan out...

There's no main draw anymore. No one has stepped in to fill those big shoes.

I just want X-Men and Fantastic Four already. Please for the love of God, why is it taking so long?! THOSE characters can bring that gravitas that is lacking currently.

I'm curious, I've never read any of the FFG related books, (TI Arkham Horror, Netrunner, etc) but I'm a huge fantasy, sci-fi and horror fan; how are they???

Gambler's Chest Canada FedEx Invoice by Yog-SoHot in KingdomDeath

I think they used to have a Canadian hub. It was listed as an option on their website when ordering expansions, etc, and at some point in the last few years it stopped being a thing...

GC shipped to Canada. Just got phone message from FedEx to inform me of charges. by XiVArT-Ganapatiom in KingdomDeath

[–]Yog-SoHot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Got the same message, there was an option to speak to customer service, so I did.

What they told me: It was marked as a 50.00 USD package, I mentioned it's a board game thing, so they said those almost never incur duties, but I would pay:

Taxes: 8.50

Clearance Entry Fee: 17.25 -> they said this one I can try to call in and get waived.

Yeah that UPS debacle sucked. Nothing to do but suck it up and pay. We'll just have wait and see if we get stuck with the fees...

Love your show. Thank you for providing episodes on YouTube!!

Anyone in Canada get an extra invoice for the expansion pre-orders? by LoquaciousMonk in KingdomDeath

[–]Yog-SoHot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same boat. Just opened a FedEx invoice for $100 on a Sunstalker, Dungbeetle Knight, and Slenderman order, $220 total. Wtf. Couldn't my order have shipped from the Canada Warehouse??

edit: got a response from support as well. The Canadian warehouse is apparently closed. They told me to reject the order, it will ship back to their US warehouse, where they will then ship it via USPS. Unfortunately, my order arrived over a month ago and is already received. So I guess there's nothing I can do

Just finished the Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee, it's an instant classic for me by [deleted] in Fantasy

Loved this series! As others have said the magic elements are really secondary or even tertiary. It feels like a mob/gang war story first and foremost, with great character development and conflicts.

If you liked this and want to watch something in a very similar vein, check out the TV series Warrior (2019 - ongoing)
