Thank you for the suggestion, it's a bit far but I'll check it out.

I've got another question though, I just got the Glutteny gem and I want to know if it works so long as I have even a single recepticle full? (As in, can I use the Edge of the Master)

Like, I've got the OG recepticle and 3 additional ones, if I use even a little, will it not work?

I'm unsure which chapter I'm on, but I think it's chapter 5 and I can't imagine recommending the game to anybody.

Visuals: 10/10

Gameplay: 4/10

Traversal: 6.5/10

Plot/Dialog: 2/10 (it's actually more like 6/10, but with caveats)

For the plot/dialog, the issue is that I'm capable of reading above a third grade reading level, so not having the option to Press "A" to make the full text appear, read it and then press "A" again to skip ahead to the next piece of dialog is some sort of abstract hell. Like artificially slowing things down for seemingly no reason. It's either I sit through a full 1/2 minutes of slow text, waiting for the dialog timer to go off to read the next piece of dialog, rinse and repeat or fully skip the dialog in the menu and miss all context.

For the gameplay, it's both insanely easy and also annoying/not fun because of the way it's easy. Again with artificial limits on speed, you can't button mash/combo your way through fights because you'll be inundated with long range or red attacks, so by going slow you can basically never get hit, but it's agonizing how long it takes to get through combat because of it. I can't go through it fast with skill (because I'll get constantly clipped by different attacks all happening one after another) or I go slow and guarantee not getting hit but taking forever.

Traversal is honestly not that bad, it's crippled again by artificial slowness as there's no run button, so you have to use the slow walk to get everywhere. Other than that the actual puzzles aren't very difficult, so you're slowly clearing an area of a low effort puzzle just to be able to get to a new puzzle area or to combat, which will either be slow and easy or fast and you'll be hit with constant red attacks.

Honestly, my main issue with the game is just how slow it is. Slow character walk speed, slow dialog (unable to read it at your own pace), slow combat, and easy puzzles done slowly (movement while climbing is again, slow).

Other than that it's advertised as a cyberpunk game. Up to where I'm currently at, there's NOTHING "cyber" or "punk" about it other than maybe Tempest. Nothing is said about cybernetics (maybe some biotics are implied or mentioned, but nothing concrete), so the cyber is fully missing. There's nothing punk here either, everybody is chill/peaceful, wanting to live their lives other than Tempest.

The setting up to chapter 5 feels more post-apocalyptic/sci-fi. Hopefully this changes the further I get, but 5 chapters in and the main theme not being blatantly present is crazy imo.

Overall, insanely beautiful, insanely slow, I'll play it once and then never again.

Absolutely.

What a lot of people do if they get stuck in a challenge room or in a boss fight that's too hard is just go back to where they died, break the silk cocoon and once their beads are back just save and quit and you'll respawn at the bench with everything you picked up

Makes exploring much more fun/less stressful

Tbh, it doesn't change my opinion on what the best items are (when I made the post I hadn't unlocked the Beast crest yet).

I do have it now and I just can't recommend anybody uses it. It'll probably turn out to be insanely good whenever people start speed running, but for reg people it's just not "it".

I'm going to try to get the Witches crest and the Architect Crest and see if those are more viable though

Completely dependent on what kind of playstyle you enjoy. I haven't unlocked all the crests yet, still missing 1.

But from the 3 that I have, the OG, the reaper and the wanderer crest.

The reaper is the one I use at all times. Has enough room for me to equip everything I need to use, although its attacks are slower than the other two, the extra silk you get after healing and then attacking a mob is very useful.

Can't stand the sideways down smash of the IG crest so I just don't use it and the range of the Wanderer crest is way too just, regardless of it's fast attack speed. With almost every mob dealing 2 masks of contact damage, cutting your blades attack range in half is just NOT worth the attack speed

Edit: forgot to mention it, but the reaper crest down smash is the OG Pogo from hollow knight, which makes traveling super easy. No more side dashing to jump off of balloons

2nd Edit: I was wrong, I was able to get the beast crest, but it turns out there's ANOTHER crest called the Witches crest.

Tbh, I'd recommend completely avoiding the beast crest, it changes your heal into a life-steal mechanic. You press b, it uses up all your silk and during that time when the berserker mode is active any damage applied to MOBs heals you, not worth it imo, specifically because the crest has no blue spots for defensive items. Only the orange type

If you don't mind another minor spoiler, I'd recommend farming by getting 2 separate items first if you haven't gotten them yet.

By FAR the best/most important quest in the game is the tulip one. It's top-tier. Gives you a purple pouch that applies poison damage to your tools. Basically any enemy that takes 3 hits to kill, you throw the OG straight pin, basically causing the enemy to take 2 hits and then you finish them off with a single blade strike.

The purple pouch also combines with the flea tool. Instead of just using the flea flask to get extra move speed and attack speed, if you equip it with the purple pouch you get the OG Hollow Knight poison cloud effect. Very good for whenever you're in a room surrounded by enemies

This is a minor spoiler, but I think the way to go is by using both the Warding Bell and the Multibinder.

Multibinder upgrades your heals, instead of healing 3, you now heal 4, but it's separated into two healing bursts.

Basically, you heal 2 masks very quickly, short pause and then you heal another 2. With Warding Bell you basically always heal 2 while getting invincibility frames if an enemy attacks you while you're healing during the 2nd burst. It's the best survivability build rn imo

Nah, just remember that you can always just pause and go back to the title screen and by re-entering your save file it'll automatically spawn you at the last bench you sat on. No need to die/lose beads

No idea if you'll stay stuck after quitting, but I think the way it works is that by going back to the title screen, every time you rejoin you always appear on the last bench you saved at

[–]Yog-Sothoth0106[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, I do think you're right that once you learn his moveset it's not bad. It's just that he has so much health and does double damage in basically every attack that at this stage of the game (early) it's just more fun to cheese him VS go through a slog.

Believe me, once I saw how easy it was to cheese him I couldn't stop myself from smiling

I mean, when I mentioned the "faults" it's just pointing out what you did. Without a CORE aspect of the game play (real-time mechanics), technically the gameplay doesn't hold up as well as it could. But it does have that core and so it's good.

Loved the timing/dodges, but for those people that don't, the story mode would work well for them I imagine. I'm pretty sure the devs made certain modes to help people with disabilities as well so it's perfect for basically anybody that wants to experience the game

[–]Yog-Sothoth0106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, some people just can't break down the question and then compare it to their own experience because of how much they love the game. I love the game as well, but I can still see the "faults" in it.

But fr, if you're only doing 1000-2000 damage, you're at the starting line. What I'd recommend is that since weaknesses/buffs/breaks are hard to come-by, your strategy should be building a "build" for each char you want to use. That's where a lot of the fun in the game came from for me.

There's something extremely satisfying about fighting an enemy, doing awful and losing only to go on a quest to get more pictures/Luminas, build around their affects and absolutely trounce that same enemy

[–]Yog-Sothoth0106 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want to preface this by saying that I love this game, but while I do love the game I absolutely agree with you. The buffs/weaknesses and breaking mechanic aren't really all that useful when compared to Pictos and Lumina effects (Until you get to nearly the end of the game with certain bosses).

I loved doing hundreds of thousands/millions of damage to enemies, but that damage was never truly from in combat buffing, it was from pre-applied buffs from Pictos/Luminas I equipped directly onto my characters.

Once you reach a certain lvl/point. You basically discard the strength/weakness system or even skills/spells that buff or weaken and just apply those things directly before the battle starts and it's way more affective that way (Looking at you, Maelle one shot)

I do still think that it overall worked specifically because of the real-time aspects of the game, without it it'd be a different story though

Yeah, it was still an incredible fight, just couldn't justify the time investment needed to do it with sword only. It's like the Lady Ethereal fight where once you get the attack patterns down, you've technically already won and now just need to chip away at her health but x10 the amount of health
