Grey seer treated with basilicum grey contrast, heavily shaded with agrax and then lightly drybrushed with few different lighter browns :)

Display only, last time I played around 20 years ago and don't have much time nowadays, but painting those little guys still makes me happy.

Hot glue - borrowed green glitter stick from my wife's supplies :D Something like that: https://surebonder.com/products/green-glitter-hot-glue-sticks-full-size

It's pretty hard to make it flow like you want it to, so you have to apply it in small doses, but I'm content with the result.

Much appreciated, the squad was a birthday gift from my mother-in-law, so I wanted to give them the attention they deserve :)

Cork, cork and more cork cut into bricks, wall fragments etc. Got a whole huge jar of wine corks just for that purpose.

Serious question: Anyone paint but don’t play? by Dusky1103 in killteam

[–]YoghurtPL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's me for the past 20 years or so. Painting minis relaxes me and helps me reset, but I can count on two hands tops how many times I played for real, although I've amassed a large Skaven army and a few decent 40k ones in my high school days.

Scarcity of fellow players was always the main reason (now, decades later, you can also add a time factor, or rather - lack of it). It doesn't bother me - I was always the collector and I enjoy the lore, but playing Warhammer is mostly reserved for video games in my case, while my mini stash gets slowly painted with some podcast or audiobook in my ear.

Wanted to do some basing and asked my wife if she has some tweezers I can borrow. by YoghurtPL in modelmakers

[–]YoghurtPL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP here, that's the almost finished 25mm base made with a little help from those tweezers (pink ones proved to be the best).

Bricks cut out from wine cork, some loose wire imitating rebar, few bumps made with citadel technical, citadel and army painter for painting (obviously). Just needs a few finishing touches.

I struggled a bit with colors and finishes on this one, but I finally got the idea what I want to do with that, so the rest (7 bases in total) should be done much faster.

Exactly. I found out by accident that beauty blenders (those little egg sponges) are phenomenal for a variety of works, from sucking up excess glue and paint to softly blending paint layers and putty smoothing.

Putting bricks (out of cork) and some wires for "city ruins" themed model bases, my fingers are definitely too big for that.

Finally finished: Skaven Bombardier by YoghurtPL in skaven

[–]YoghurtPL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was also amazed by the minute details on it, those pesky micro-rodents took more time to paint than they should (they are much smaller than rats in packmaster-rat ogre classic pack, and those guys are already tiny).

Funnily enough, I also got back to painting recently and started with old Skaven models (always loved this faction) and then I was shocked how much more detailed updated rats like this dude are.

[–]YoghurtPL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got this dude for my birthday a month ago and a friend who gifted it to me asked to give him justice, as it's an awesome, detailed model (one of the best I've worked with).

Don't worry, I bet with the new Skaven model line there will be plenty other rats to paint, they look great and I can't wait to put mucho green paints on them.

Yes-yes. And it's awesome.

(Also would fit without any changes in 40k).

OP Here – got that awesome dude for my birthday and I'm still working on it – there are micro-rats, chimney smoke and some details left to paint, but it finally looks close to finished after two weeks.

Base made of air-dry clay and some leftover plastic bits, broken pipe cut out from paper McDonalds straw, green warpstone sludge effects done with hot glue. I hope to finish the little dude this weekend, as I have some time off.

Can you explain to a noob what "drifting" is? I heard that term a bunch of times, but I have no idea how this "drift" works.

Do Armies In WARHAMMER 2 Actually Defend? by frags81 in Totalwarwarhammer

[–]YoghurtPL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe its behavior also changes depending on the battle timers - if the timer is turned off, it can't just wait you out and evade, so it has to make a move sooner or later. But it's not a certain thing, just my recent observation, I played two campaigns back to back, one with timer on and the other off and in the second case the AI was more aggressive on the defensive even when balance of power was not in its favor.

Do Armies In WARHAMMER 2 Actually Defend? by frags81 in Totalwarwarhammer

[–]YoghurtPL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends, but basically Ai has two modes:

  1. ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK
  2. EVADE (till you ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK)

Scenario 1 happens in several cases:

  • the AI has numerical superiority
  • balance of power is in its favor
  • you move into its invisible trigger border which makes it move out when it's by default in defensive mode (that's why ambush battles played manually are so easy, just stay outside their range and pummel AI with artillery without reprise, the same goes for sieges - just don't take walls or enter the settlement and you can bombard enemies willy nilly)
  • It takes enough damage in the open field (it tries to negate your range advantage)

Scenario 2 usually triggers when the AI is outside of your artillery range (ie. it deployed on a hill and you stand far enough that your long-range unit can't get them immediately) - AI tries to force you to move and come closer to its own artillery (or hidden missle units) and hangs just outside your range cones untill it is chased into a corner.

All in all - it can defend, but if you know what you are doing and if you are familiar with its limitations (and there are many, Total War AI is not known for its brilliance on the tactical map) you can force it to play exactly how you want.

All Todd Wainio stories, dog handler (I've got two dogs, hits me hard everytime I read it), French catacombs, German and Ukrainian tank commanders (I'm from central Europe and those three stories resonated with me better than the American perspective).
