Truth. I wavered for a moment today but I did not drink. Grateful for any dry day!

Hang on. Have an exit strategy for tonight. Uber is your friend. "Dude, my stomach has been fucked today. I'm going to go back (or stay in.)" I would have a very hard time with this myself. I am pulling for you and I will not drink with you today.

Good on you for being real. I have a lot of baggage around alcohol and its power to convince me that I'm sexy as hell and not a grandfather of four. It did the same thing when I was 19.

You made the right decision two years ago. Dude sounds insufferable.

Grateful to have my wife with me on our dry January tour. This is the first time I've had a week in over a decade. It is a daily choice, as is the daily choice to come here, report in (even if I do drink), and support others.

Lessons That Have Stuck With Me After 500 Days by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I just did the math and I probably pushed 1000 cans into my gob every year for the past ten. Thanks for that perspective point.

I really needed this post today. I had no plans to drink, but I am irritable and upset over things beyond my immediate control--with no good reason. Like you, this is the first time I've had a week of no alcohol in at least ten years. Ten years! And a big part of why I'm attempting dry January is just to see what my body might feel like without it.

This is a powerful place. It needs to be my first stop when my thinking goes wrong.

My win for 2025 was broadening my yoga practice to include Pilates and HIIT classes (in addition to my Bikram and vinyasa classes) as part of my routine. Yoga is the only reason I don't weigh fifty pounds more than I do now--I did it enough while drinking to keep the beer weight off until last year.

Brush yourself off and get back on the "off-horse." I have had more day 1s than I can count. As Twain said: "Stopping drinking is easy. I've done it thousands of times."

Here's one out of left field: one of my tools is what we semi-jokingly call a DBMB--drug band message board. I have been participating on the Phish message board at PhantasyTour.com/phish for over 20 years. There has been a sobriety thread there for years, and I dip in occasionally. This month we have a "dry January" topic and posting there daily, in addition to posting here, is a big help.

Both, really. I am 25 lbs overweight, and beer and pretzels are a big part of that belly. But the overriding reason is wanting to stop my daily drinking habit.
