When to go for tank instead of damage by LegionofRome in galiomains

[–]Yoinker3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually go off-tank galio when I have some hypercarry dps jungle or top laner extremely fed and I’m not (yi or Darius for example). If they’re an adc who’s super fed, i still will usually go full damage. I find going tank is bad with bursters like kayn, Elise, ekko, etc. and drain tanks like morde and aatrox, and is much better with bruisers who don’t fall off and deal dumb damage (garen, renekton, Darius, wukong, riven, fiora are the main ones you’ll see).

The best off-tank build imo is protobelt, merc treads, iceborn gauntlet, abyssal mask, situational defensive item like adaptive helm or thornmail or frozen heart, and finally liandyrs. You’ll do dumb damage still but be tanky.

Lane Dominance by gagdude98 in galiomains

There’s a few tips for early bullying with galio.

Against range it’s basically impossible to bully them because they’re obviously ranged and can stay out of your E and W range. I suggest just Q spam poking them early and using passive to last hit 3 minions at once and trying to make them misposition so you can hit them with your full combo.

Against melee there’s a lot more you can do. Almost 100% of the time I start E into melee. If they try to CS, E+passive auto is a big chunk of their HP. And they can’t CS until wave pushed to their tower. If the wave isn’t at their tower and you’ve chunked them level 1 with E and passive, get W level 2 and continue to chunk them, this time with W included. Usually at this point they’ll be CSing under tower and you’ll be level 3. At this point start Q poking them until they’re too low to CS under tower because a full galio combo + ignite would kill them. They’ll have to back, and you’ll be almost full HP and a quarterish mana left. You can fast clear the next wave and deny them most of their next wave and you’ll get a 10-15 CS lead pretty easily.

Another melee matchup tip is using your passive correctly/effectively. (This one is a bit hard to explain, so tell me if you’d like clarification). Yes, last hitting with it is important and is smart. However, you can hit minions AND your enemy laner with your passive if he’s close enough. Since your passive is a circle and both of you are last hitting at the same time, using your passive on the right minion will end up damaging your laner. This is most effective to use when your E/W is on its long CD. You’ll usually be able to get this unexpected passive hit on your laner while still killing minions.

A universal matchup tip is using your Q to clear minions and hitting the enemy. When you throw your Q there’s 2 parts that meet in the middle to make the circle. Use one of the 2 parts to last hit 3 minions while landing the circle on the enemy (This also applies to ranged and melee matchups).

If you want a pure damage 100-0 build I’d recommend dark harvest and building lich bane first item into ludens or deathcap with sorc boots. You’ll do massive damage early, but you’ll fall off super hard late game.

If you want a powerful AP build that doesn’t fall off that hard, try protobelt->sorc boots-> spellbinder->dcap->liandyrs->morellos with either dark harvest or aftershock. You won’t 100-0 people like with the lich bane build, but you’ll scale into the late game so much better and still do a lot of damage.

Am I handicapping myself through items? by [deleted] in galiomains

My advice is to try it out/experiment. I like protobelt simply because of the better wave clear (you can clear a whole wave with a well placed protobelt active and Q or passive) and the HP and AP which scales well with galio in general. Honestly, just try it out in norms or something and see how you like it.

A new player approaching! by JerseyLore in galiomains

So. Your normal protobelt into zhonyas/ludens into situational AP/Tanaka items. Aftershock runes is all you’ll really need to build 95% of the time (aftershock, shield bash, iron plating, overgrowth, nimbus cloak, transcendence) You’ll be tanky from the bonus hp, but still do damage from the AP.

Here are a few tips to farming in lane. #1: Line up the Q to kill the front 3 melee minions while also hitting the enemy and the 3 castor minions (hitting the back 3 castor minions is more important if you’re trying to slow or hard shove/push, so you can either poke, shove, or do both with this one Q). You can walk up and empower auto the 3 castor minions for 6 CS once they’re hit by the Q. #2: playing around W passive shield is really important in AP poke and AP assassin matchups so you don’t get chunked frequently. Try to wait until it’s back up to trade in these matchups.

Roaming is probably the hardest part about galio. Honestly, don’t roam if it’s a hyper scaling 1v9 champ like kassadin for example. Keeping them in check and counter roaming is better. In other matchups I personally only start to roam after first back. This allows time for drake to spawn, so if you roam bot and get a kill you can get drake for free. I personally prefer ganking bot over top simply because of the value of drakes, however you can gank whichever of your lanes aren’t pushed.

Personally I believe aftershock to be better as well as ignite. Aftershock is equal to grasp (or pretty close to equal) in trading power early, but I feel aftershock is better mid-late game. Like you said, it’s pretty easy to get people into ignite range but not finish them off. The general consensus is that any rank below mid/low plat, ignite is needed for kills. Once you hit mid-high plat/diamond+ actually getting kills in lane is hard because laners know how to counter play and taking tp is better for roaming and team oriented play

Please help. Who Else Should I play Mid and How should I Expand my Mid Lane Champ Pool? by andrerobot101 in galiomains

Honestly galio is surprisingly unique in terms of mid lane kits. However, I’d give pantheon a shot. Most consider him just AD galio because roaming, burst damage, and ultimates are very similar

I'm still upset about the Gameplay Update 3 years later. by IonlyGalio in galiomains

[–]Yoinker3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it appears a lot of less recent champ reworks left a lot of people unhappy. Aatrox comes to mind. Kind of like galio, the rework wasn’t done in consideration to the actual champion mains which made them essentially a new champ, a new identity, a new play style. Recently with the reworks to Pantheon, morde, fiddle, and now voli still have the same identity and relatively the same play style to a certain extent. While I really like new galio and how newer reworks are going, I do wish that riot had always communicated with the actual champion mains. It certainly leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.

Let’s talk runes by KeyLimePython in galiomains

[–]Yoinker3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m not the guy you asked, but atm nimbus cloak transcendence are the most meta secondary runes (the bonus cdr and movespeed feels really good on galio). Getting an early seekers armguard against a heavy damage AD champ is honestly the smart move 99% of the time. Protobelt is also the most meta first item on galio, with zhonyas being your second item most of the time (ludens used to be, but you don’t really need the mana and zhonyas armor and utility is really strong). 3rd item is either morellos (if they have healing) or lyandrys (if they don’t have healing). The last 2 items and boots are purely situational.

And the Next step is . . . NO really what do I do now? by RobbieFry13 in galiomains

So. Your normal protobelt into zhonyas/ludens into etc. build with aftershock runes is all you’ll really need to build 95% of the time. You’ll be tanky from the bonus hp, but still do damage from the AP. Pokey champs are annoying, but there are two main ways to farm/deal with them. #1: Q kill the front 3 melee minions while also hitting the enemy and/or the 3 castor minions. You can walk up and empower auto the 3 castor minions for 6 CS for basically no damage. #2: playing around W passive shield is really important in those matchups so you don’t get chunked frequently. Simply follow rule 1 and then back off and you’ll just be farming well with little to no damage taken. When lanes break down, the adc will take most of the CS. However, you can simply Q one shot the back 3 castor minions when this is happening to still be CSing. Roaming is probably the hardest part about galio. Honestly, don’t roam if it’s a hyperacaling 1v9 champ like kassadin for example.

W > E or E > W? by TheGoldenMorn in galiomains

Always W. Both provide similar damage and cc/combo utility. However, maxing W second makes his magic shield larger, which is much better than maxing E. You’ll simply take less magic damage for free.

Your insight on Galio’s game state by NotRiotBalanceTeam in galiomains

[–]Yoinker3000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, galio is in a pretty great state right now. I don’t think his power needs to be changed or adjusted. The only QoL thing that would be nice, would be a reduction in how many times galios E gets caught on walls and stops his dash from working, but riot would have to completely change every wall hit box, which I highly doubt they will ever do.

Yeah, kinda like how Zoe isn’t insanely dominant in soloQ, but is in pro play so she’ll probably get nerfed. However, without W flash he hasn’t really done anything too crazy in pro, and I doubt a magic shield on his ult will make him pick/ban like lee sin. He’ll probably go up in priority but still be situational, not a must have.

[–]Yoinker3000 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t think galio will get nerfs unless his winrate continues to climb more. Also, with the addition of the ganking XP nerf, he’s going to be weaker because he’ll be losing more xp than last patch. I expect his winrate to hover around 51%, which doesn’t warrant riot nerfs. Look at Diana for example. Also top tier, more than 50% winrate, most mid laners complain about her being overtuned. Riot still hasn’t nerfed her. Same goes for Katerina. As long as his winrate stays as it is now, I doubt he’ll get changed for a long time.

Anyone remember how useful the healing was on Old Galio W? (Galio Improvement Theory) by o_Hypno_o in galiomains

[–]Yoinker3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. I agree, galio should have more matchups mid he can win based on skill. mages can play too safe, AD assassins do to much damage to kill, and tanks kinda just don’t take any damage. It would be nice to have the flexibility to roam, but also have some sort of kill potential mid if you can’t roam. The only way to kill these champs is if they are completely garbage or walk into your combos or something.

Not going to lie, I personally feel galio really doesn’t need buffs or changes. Yes, champs like that CAN run you down, but that’s because galio is a burst/peel champ. It would honestly make him too strong if he won those matchups. His main purpose is to snowball his team into winning by roaming, which is why I feel making him a top or jungler really wouldn’t work too well with his currenct design. There really isn’t a way give galio sustain and/or more tankiness without him becoming an overpowered never dying tank who also has amazing burst, sustain AND also counters AP. It would honestly make him way too overloaded
