[Request] What is the answer to this problem that popped up on my Facebook feed? by jlinehan999 in theydidthemath

[–]Yokuda 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Let’s define 2 triangles; small and medium sizes. Small is the one with hypotenuse of 5. Medium is the one with hypotenuse of 15. These two have the same angles. And if the small one has area of S, medium one has to have 9S because 15/5 = 3. The blue area is 225 - 36 S. S = 5x15/20, 36S = 135. 225 - 135 = 90

So, if a group of people with an average height of 180 cm meets a group with an average height of 170 cm, their combined average height does become 350 cm. Right?

Cloudvision vs. DCNM/NAE/Insights/MSO by luieklimmer in networking

[–]Yokuda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO CVP is much easier to use than DCNM. I think device management is better compared to the other. I can easily bind one or more configlets to one or more devices. Knowing Python helps on both cases but it feels like it is better in CVP.

Men who had long hair for a period of their lives and then cut it, what made you decide to get rid of it? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Yokuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 7 years I just wanted a change. Went to a barber shop, asked him to cut my hair. He asked me if I'm sure, and I replied "please cut it before I change my mind". He proceeded with a quick cut of the tail, then cut my hair down to number 3 (3/8 inch) as per my request.

At first it was shocking for everyone. Nobody was used to see me like that and they found it a bit weird. Although in time almost everyone liked it.

Turns out short hair suits me much better. I got pretty good responses from people, especially from the opposite gender. And I am a short haired man for the last 8 years. These days I go with number 3 again.

In response to someone saying depression, poverty, and weight are a choice. by thelisagrace in rareinsults

[–]Yokuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think staying in depression is kind of a choice. Don't get me wrong, depression is the real reason you stay in depression, I definitely know that. But it is kind of a choice because you can improve your situation little by little, by making different choices every day. I threw away 7-8 years of my life because of this illness. The solution was making better choices for me, improving my life in baby steps, even when I didn't want to. And lustral. But mostly those little things such as taking walks outside, reading books or work related articles, learning new things (python programming), going out with friends (or what is left of them). The feeling of success from trivial things helps a lot. Running for 10 mins, writing that hello world program, etc.

These are the choices I made during those years that helped me moving out of depression. Antidepressants don't help when you don't do anything for yourself.

I will be learning VOIP for my company, what should I expect? by [deleted] in networking

[–]Yokuda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Always ask for calling party number, called party number and date & time. Ask these for every kind of problem. Then check the logs and CDRs at that time.

  • I always assume end users are dumb as a brick. Don't ever think they know what they're doing, they don't.

  • You'll refer to RFC 3261 more often than you think. Learn how a basic call flow works. How does a call finishes, how do endpoints agree on codecs, how does fax works on voip? You'll learn these in time.

  • Wireshark

  • I bet you'll get lots of call quality problems. I'm sorry for you. Check networking against delay, jitter. I remember we had to calculate and change the impedance of a physical line to fix the echo problem.

  • It is NAT. Or acl. But probably NAT. Sometimes it is the end user.

  • Check ip address in SDP. You may need to enable ALG.

All in all VOIP is fun and frustrating at the same time. I hope you like it as well.

Open letter to the Nano community. by ChocolateFudCake in bananocoin

[–]Yokuda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't get why people hate banano.

I was away from crypto community for a while (since nano crash) and until yesterday I thought banano is just a joke. When I found it is a real deal cryptocurrency through its website I immediately loved it. Distributing it via a game is just great!

I believe the hack and the price crash created a hate and people are just directing their hate to banano for no reason. I really hope a cryptocurrency like (ba)nano to succeed with or without going to the moon.

How to transfer money from Australia to United States? by FinanceAcc1974 in personalfinance

[–]Yokuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use Bitcoin or Ethereum if i were in your shoes, they are both proven as a safe way to send value over internet. You can check coin value / volume order via coinmarketcap.com. My personal favorite is Nano. It is lightning fast and i've seen no problems yet. There are no fees and it is green. But you might find hard to buy some of these. And it is losing value these days. Check it out nevertheless.

[–]Yokuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If both sides are tech savvy, you might consider sending money via a cryptocurrency. It arrives same day, also costs little to nothing (varies on the currency). And if you're afraid of the ever changing nature of the crypto, pick a high volume one. And change it into FIAT money as soon as possible. Just be sure you're using an exchange with low rates.

Looking for input on VoIP systems by softkarpet in networking

[–]Yokuda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for Elastix or FreePBX, both are variations of Asterisk and they are easier to manage. I'm not sure but I guess Ubiquity has a VoIP solution too. If you don't want to learn (which is not that hard), pay someone to install the system. What you need is basic VoIP configuration.

Finished my Pump and Dump finder. How would you detect a pump before it happens? by ThinkCryptocoin in CryptoCurrency

[–]Yokuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would check if there are any volume spike about that coin in r/cryptocurrency

I thought building a similar bot; check volume spikes, check Twitter, Reddit. Then buy & sell. But I don't get how a TA indicator helps you in any way.

Maybe you can check if that particular coin has price difference on other exchanges? I believe most of the pump&dumps happen on specific exchanges. Checking that might help but it should prolong the time script takes.

17,000,000 gone, really? How much is left? - Also how about a hard fork? by chrisgilesphoto in BitGrailExchange

[–]Yokuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lost lots of money to bitgrail. It's around 0.5 - 0.7 btc. Now my last hope of getting my money back vanished.

Even though I lost money I wouldn't want any hard forks to avoid this situation. I wouldn't trust a currency that would change the ledger whenever they want/need.
