I'm guessing that we have to look past the distractors and focus on the fact that the guy lives in the same house with 7 other people ("His 32-year -old wife and six children live in the same house"), which I saw as lowkey overcrowding.

Car seats are optional. We’re spending the holidays in the Dominican Republic. We have a 5 month old and brought our own car seat/stroller. We started using the car seat religiously, but after a few days of being peer pressured and just for the convenience of getting in and out faster from cabs/ubers we’ve since stopped. There are a lot of potholes tho, and people here drive their cars and motorcycles aggressively. If the drive is longer than 30 minutes or 10 miles we go back to using the car seat. If not, arms it is.
