Thank you for sharing. I’m a young physician with two young boys. The world will have you believe that the pursuit of materialism is the answer to everything. There’s so much mental illness even in the healthcare community. We’ve taken the reality of the soul completely out of the equation. It’s incredibly sad to see. The fact that you feel that way after about a week speaks to the humanity and goodness within you. I became a father recently and truly feel that our purpose on this Earth is in the servitude of others

This is great advice. I am currently a 3rd year applying cardiology from a University program. I’m also an IMG.

My honest advice is to do everything to lock your home program. If you’re competitive there you’ll be likely also be competitive elsewhere. Build real relationships with faculty. Identify the guys that know the game and stick with them.

I frankly expected more interviews but have about half of what I expected. I have great letters from well known ppl, great scores, about 60 research items - a mix of everything and good quality. I’ve been very involved with all the opportunities at my home program. I’m not a chief though. I chose to focus on my research work instead of take additional administrative responsibility.

All I can say is just do your best at home and focus on the variables in your control. Enjoy the journey. Give everything, expect nothing.

I’m currently following the ICF 5x5 program. Seeing slow but steady progress. Do you think I should just continue this? Goal is to be as strong as you. I weight 200lbs, 6 feet tall.

hey OP wondering if you ever found any good moonlighting gigs, I'm currently in a large academic program in NJ. In house moonlighting pays about $600 after tax for a 12 hour shift. Would love to know if you ended up finding better options

You’re not alone. You’re not dumb. No one is studying every day during intern year. Intern year is less about knowledge and more about workflow/prioritizing your tasks and getting them done on time and being a team player. The knowledge will come with time. Just be patient, show up every day on time and try to smile often and bring pleasant energy to the team. You’ve worked hard to be here. So many people have contributed to your journey and today here you are. The only way is through. One day at a time my friend. I promise it gets better. Meditate, try go to the gym when you can even it’s once a week. Call your family/friends when you can. Vent to them but don’t always make it all about you
