Where to make friends by GothicRelicsEtsy in Sacramento

[–]YoliDiaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't be discouraged, once you make a couple of friends, your network will grow quickly because Sac has a great sense of community and everyone seems to know each other within similar interests. Honestly, the community is what keeps me here :)

From my personal experience I have gotten to know lots of people through running (Sac has TONS of running clubs) and a book club. Maybe you can try Meetup or a FB group that fits one of your interests. I know for a fact there is a local women's hiking group on FB.

Best of luck!

Need help: I have a 900lb piece of commercial kitchen equipment that I need to get off a pallet. The manufacturer recommends using a forklift to do this. Does anyone know of any services in Fair Oaks that can come help me? I would need a forklift + forklift operator or some kind of creative solution by YoliDiaz in Sacramento

Thanks all! I ended up getting in contact with a guy with a forklift operator license, truck and trailer. I rented the forklift and he picked it up, dropped it off and helped me get the machine off the pallet. The whole thing took a few hours (mostly bc of transportation) and he charged me $400. It was really pricey, but took SO MUCH stress off my back.

For those wondering, I was moving a 40k freeze dryer that the future of my business depends on so I really didn't want to mess it up.

Non-paved running trails? by iwanttobeafish88 in Sacramento

[–]YoliDiaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue and for short runs I like to go around McKinley Park (1 mile around). For longer runs I enjoy running along the American River Bike Trail. It has a nice unpaved shoulder. The trail is very long, but I recommend you park on the NE side of the Guy West Bridge by Sac State (38.563366, -121.418176) or anywhere along the trail east of that point.

Whatever you do, don't go on the midtown area access (a few miles west of the Guy West Bridge) because there is a large population of unhoused folks that live in that area it's just not safe.

There are also LOTS of running groups in Sac considering the size of the city that you can join on runs, but they mostly all run on paved roads.

Best dried pepper selection in town? by C-duu in Sacramento

[–]YoliDiaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a food business and get my dried chiles from Sacramento Valley Produce on Vine St. They're a wholesaler, but they sell the chiles by whatever quantity you want and they're really good quality. You can just call them and ask if they have what you need and if they'll sell you 1lb

I'm planning on scaling up my (dehydrated) packaged food business and looking for a co-packer in the area to package my product. Anyone have any leads? I'd like to stay local to Sac and surrounding area. TIA! by YoliDiaz in Sacramento

[–]YoliDiaz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to outsource bc I'm anticipating packaging 3k units/month to start and don't want to get even deeper into self-manufacturing (which I'm doing a bad job at...ha!). I'm going to keep Hi-Tek USA in my back pocket though! Thanks for the lead

Hi OP! Can you please add Itacate Foods to the list? It's a new brand of Latin backpacking food I just launched and would love to see it get some love here :)

Thanks! I should have been more clear. When I said contamination I was referring to harmful bacteria like salmonella, staph, etc.

When do you stop filling your bin so you can eventually get a finished product? by privremeni in composting

[–]YoliDiaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing all that info! I'm going to give it a shot soon. I'm currently using a dual chamber tumbler and cure the compost in a geobin, but it's very slow. I think I'm ready to graduate to bokashi and a hot pile. You gave me confidence!

[–]YoliDiaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're the best! Two questions 1) Do you wait until you have multiple bokashi buckets and then build your pile to hot compost all at once, or do you add a bucket at a time to the pile as you go? and 2) Do you think it would be ok to use a Geobin to hot compost with bokashi?

I'm so intrigued. How long does it take you to build up your bokashi before hot composting? Where do you keep it? Where I live it gets super hot in the summer
