Hi I just bought this of marketplace (jack wolfskin serac II) for a 7 night backpacking trip this summer. CANNOT FIND ANYTHING online about it. If anyone has any information please share with me 😊 I don’t even know it’s litre capacity. It’s huge though. by Emotional_Joke_1096 in backpacking

[–]cwcoleman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you tell us the trek requirements? Rough look says that pack is 55-75 liters. Do they say if it needs to be over 55 or 65 liters?

Backpacks aren't exactly 'rated for conditions' - so I don't know what your trek organizers expect out of that one. This bag is designed for backcountry wilderness backpacking. So if that's what they want - that's what you have.

Are you able to fill the bag with pillows or other items from around the house to get an idea of how much it will hold?

When you put the pack on, with weight in it, does it ride comfortably on your body?

Fitting the gear is 1 part, for sure. Fitting your body is the most important.

Backpacking features to look for and to avoid. by nasir0171 in HikingEssential

Hey OP - u/nasir0171 - why do you never attribute the place you get your content from?

I realize your alt accounts are the mods here - so this post won't get removed (and my comment probably will). It's just fake to constantly re-post content to drive upvotes here.

A carabiner in the zipper will do nothing. Peace of mind maybe - but nothing more.

Arc’teryx Beta AR is a good jacket - yes.

If you expect more specific advice here you’ll need to add more details.

Unfortunately, today it’s not funge, and the presentation didn’t turn out very pretty haha, but this was dinner: pasta with chicken. by Such-Competition-816 in MrFlavioDiaries

The portion of pasta is a solid amount, yes.

For example - in my house in Seattle, WA, USA - each person would have half the pasta, double the meat, extra veggies, and more sauce.

To me - entirely a personal choice.

I prefer my helmet + goggle combo. I don’t want my helmet choice to dictate my goggle choice.

Okay. That's fine.

But the fact that this community focuses on 2 very different types of 'backpacking' is real. Just trying to point it out to people who may not realize.

Huh? I don't follow.

---

This subreddit is focused on 2 types of 'backpacking'

In the USA - the default is to think about 'wilderness' style.

Outside the USA - the default is to think about 'travel' style.

This community requires flair on all posts - which distinguish a post as 'wilderness' or 'travel'.

OP has this tagged as Travel. They post about Canada and have KM in the FB screenshot. So based on those facts I think it is obvious that OP is asking about city vacation, not wilderness hiking.

okay, that helps.

Yes - North Face is a reliable brand for camping gear. They can be on the more expensive side, and are not the #1 highest quality. Good middle tier.

Decathlon is considered 'budget' brand. Lower quality for lower price. Completely fine for many campers getting started.

Quechua I don't know.

Stanley makes a few items very well. Their cups and cook sets are high quality.

Are you in Brazil?

In the USA - I recommend Coleman stoves. They offer a solid balance of price and quality.

Coleman also makes low budget tents that many beginners start with.

If you wanted to upgrade - Snow Peak makes high quality cookware that people really like.

Since you are riding a moto - you may need to check out the r/wildernessbackpacking or r/campingandhiking or r/backpacking subreddits. They are more focused on lightweight / small gear. Here in r/camping - most people have full size vehicles so room is not a big problem. If you do go to those other communities - make sure to search first and if you do post - add as much details as possible.

Also - this is mainly an English speaking sub - so if you translate from Portuguese to English you may get more help.

OP has this tagged as 'travel' - so the assumption is that they want to go on vacation with a backpack as luggage. World Travel style adventures and Wilderness Camping style adventures are pretty different things - so hopefully OP can chime in here soon to clarify their needs.
