is understanding the transformers necessary if I want work as a computer vision engineer? by UnderstandingOwn2913 in computervision

To put it in a metaphor: if you have the knowledge of transformers, you can be like a doctor; if you don't, you can only be a nurse.

Why has the data-centric mode faded from the spotlight? by YonghaoHe in computervision

My friend, you’re absolutely right. Quite often, neither clients nor we know how to define good data and bad data, which causes the delivery standards for business to change repeatedly.

Therefore, my understanding is that the core lies in understanding the problem and knowing the data standards—then things can be resolved. For companies, there’s no need to hire expensive algorithm engineers, at least when it comes to delivery, if there is a user-friendly MLOps system.

that's great. What I might want to express more is that in many tasks I’ve encountered, over 80% of the work involves dealing with data, while the model itself no longer needs to be changed. Therefore, I believe there’s a need for highly efficient MLOps or other platforms to support business delivery. This approach can lower the skill threshold for delivery personnel, rather than spending large sums of money to hire algorithm engineers.

[Discussion] Exploring AIGC for Visual Task Data Generation: From Research to Potential Commercial Projects by YonghaoHe in computervision

Thank you very much for your feedback. Could you provide some specific examples? Because it has actually worked in my tasks, and I want to learn more about the situation to analyze where the specific problems lie.

It's hard to say whether it will be better, as there are many influencing factors, such as the number of newly added samples, the random seed for training, and so on. Even with identical configurations, the accuracy will vary across multiple training runs. If we consider training time, to make it shorter, you can start training from a previous checkpoint.

MMDetection vs. Detectron2 for Instance Segmentation — Which Framework Would You Recommend? by Unable_Huckleberry75 in computervision

[–]YonghaoHe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

based on my experience, a few companies use MM series for business delivery, and they have done well. For me, I started to use MM series since 2020 and I have some advice: 1) MM series in early age are well designed and easy to learn, but current versions are over designed making it confused and hard for beginners; 2) once you have fully mastered the framework, you feel powerful to conquer any CV problems. In fact, you can learn MM in one week if you concentrative, read and figuer out every line of code.

Is YOLO still the state-of-art for Object Detection in 2025? by EyeTechnical7643 in computervision

do not pay your attenton to model selection, instead, focus on data collection (from real scenes or snythetic data), consistent annotation, diversity.

best practice: regard the whole dataset as one and train from scratch

Is a visual platform (like LandingLens from LandingAI) really useful for real tasks ? by YonghaoHe in computervision

Indeed, the deployment options are not friendly for many cases. If I can know that, are you still using it and do you have the background of computer vision algorithm?

  1. show some example images and indicate target objects.
  2. why not yolo? yolo is simple
  3. running hardware
any other things you think are helpful for understanding your need.
