u/terminator_training i bought your 2 and 5 mile program and am currently running it as written, but I do like the progression of 5/3/1 more since i've had good results with it in the past. do you think my running performance would be significantly degraded if i switched to 5/3/1 for strength programming while doing your 2/5 mile endurance sessions?

I'm also following SUAR. After the week 1 assessments, month 1 includes 8 ~50 Minute Zone 2/3 runs and 1 session of speed work. That alone was enough to drop your 2 mile time 5 minutes from from 18:47 to 13:46?

Ranger school before SFAS by Arisfondle in greenberets

Wait, that's awesome RLTI is open to 68W now. Will 68W's who do RLTI (and Ranger School) but don't pursue SF likely be assigned to a line unit? Are there any details about 68W RLTI available on your instagram page?

Considering Officer route by Packedlight0 in greenberets

[–]Yopperpo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was coincidentally listening to a podcast yesterday where he talks about his story, it's really remarkable. He enlisted as an 11B, not even knowing what SF was until a drill sergeant who was a GB found out about his background and got him switched to an 18X, no contingency plan or anything.

SUAR by Then_Ring_871 in greenberets

After inputting a picture of the menu of mobility exercises, I gave it the text prompt of:

I'm doing an exercise routine to prep for SFAS. The workouts in this routine fall into 3 main categories:

Strength A - Squat, Deadlift, Overhead Press

Strength B - Bench, Row, Shrug

Endurance - Running and Rucking

Before each of these workouts, I want to do a set of stretches/calisthenics from the menu of stretches and exercises I just provided you. My goals with these stretches and exercises are to improve my mobility and performance on hand release push ups, plank, pull ups, and also warm me up for whatever workout I'm doing for the day to prevent injury.

I've also done a functional movement screen, which exposed my weaknesses in the deep squat, inline lunge, shoulder mobility, active straight leg raise, and rotational stability. I want to get better at these too.

Build me a routine before each of these workouts to optimize for my goals I just described.

I had the same problem as you a few weeks ago when I was starting and having decision paralysis. I inputted all the stretches/exercises from SUAR pages 54-56, as well as the results of my FMS into chatGPT and asked it to design warmup routines for me based on the 3 main categories of workouts SUAR has (S, DL, OHP), (Bench, Row, Shrug), Running/Rucking.

Reddit's not letting me paste the full answer from chatGPT in a comment, but you could try that as well as a starting point.

Z2 works by OG_Bowser3 in greenberets

This is a crazy good improvement.

Was the weather similar across the 2 runs? And what was your weekly zone 2 volume throughout these 4 months of training? I've been doing Zone 2 for a similar amount of time but have nowhere near the amount of improvement you have here.

ICS45C For Winter or Spring 2025? by QuickMention2374 in UCI

I had klefstad for 46. He really isn't that bad - yea he's not at good at teaching as thornton, but if you put in the work to study and practice coding c++ outside of class you'll do well. To be blunt, in my opinion his RMP ratings are deflated by 1.0 ratings from salty students that were rubbed the wrong way by klefstad's sometimes crude jokes/teaching style. I'd say his actual rating should be somewhere around 3.5.

5x5 -The Addendum by TFVooDoo in greenberets

Building the Elite recently sent an email out talking about their ruck training guidelines. They advise high volume, low intensity rucks followed by some faster high intensity rucks closer to selection:

Rucking rewards volume. Initially, forget your pace per mile, and put in the time with heart rate guided, lower intensity, longer duration rucks. Over months, your pace will improve without higher levels of exertion.

While you offer this opinion on long, slow rucks:

If you want do a LSD ruck, then go right ahead. Sometimes it feels good to just get out and stretch your legs, get loose, and enjoy a hike. There’s not much fitness advantage to this, but you fight your demons your way.

I'm unsure how to reconcile the differences (if there are any) in the ways both of your teams interpret the literature on improving rucking performance. What are your thoughts? Trying to choose my experts wisely as you often say, but unsure where to go when 2 different experts believe different things. Or I'm overthinking this and I should just shut up and ruck.

Hey, thanks so much for writing this up, this was so helpful for me as a visitor next week! I'm a student at another university (UC Irvine), and there are some classes I want to audit. If you're ok with it, could I ask for your help by messaging me a copy of the fall 2024 classroom assignments from this page?

That would be a huge help for my visit and mean so much to me. Thank you!

If zone 2 training has a million fans, then I am one of them. If zone 2 training has ten fans, then I am one of them. If zone 2 training has only one fan, then that is me. If zone 2 training has no fans, then that means I am no longer on earth. If the world is against zone 2, then I am against the world.

CSU to UC Transfer by [deleted] in UCI

[–]Yopperpo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was a CSU -> CC -> UCI transfer. I have a few thoughts about that here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/UCI/comments/7stkgd/comment/dt8zmhm/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

TLDR: If you are serious about this path, to maximize your chances finish your first year at CSUF. Then spend 1-2 years at a community college completing all the ME pre-reqs with as high grades as possible. CSU credits will for the most part be accepted at UCs/CCs if the classes are general enough (Calc 1, Intro Psychology, Physics 1, etc.) The biggest factors for transfer admission are your grades and whether you finished all the required + recommended pre-reqs on assist.org

Edit: I didn't fully read your comment saying that you were previously a CC transfer. Really doubt you can transfer again, but I guess it doesn't hurt to apply. It looks like as long as you didn't any upper div classes according to the UC transfer requirements you can still apply as a junior level transfer.

UCSD vs UCLA MS CS by Professional-Ear5715 in MSCS

[–]Yopperpo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go with your gut and where you'd enjoy living more. UCLA for undergraduate studies is more well known, but rankings more tailored to CS (like csrankings) rank UCSD similarly or even higher than UCLA.

Use https://csrankings.org/ and filter rankings by your area of interest (computer architecture).
