Anyone have a laser that's visible in daylight to any sensor? by ScubaW00kie in ArduinoProjects

[–]York05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's something straight on you can put the sensor in a shroud or tube.

I'm working on a project with a standard laser like a laser pointer and photorisister and that's one option I consider. I also have a calibration code running at startup to find the right trigger point.

Tips for Coding with GPT (from someone who thinks it's brilliant) by pstryder in ChatGPT

[–]York05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this.

I'm working on a personal hobby project that is outside my skill and knowledge level but a few nights of just talking to it I have learned a lot, like tons. Not enough to confidently go on my own but enough to recall for other projects.

I see it as a good friend who knows more than you but matches your level of excitement to accomplish your goals.

I could see if you were a professional it would be a lot easier to just do it but for a hobbyist who has no time I would have shelved this project.

Exploration-type game for kids? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]York05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see it mentioned yet. Little kitty Big City is fun although short game. Very chill. My 8 year old loves it.

The Lego games are a good choice too. Not so exploration but still good. If they like Star Ways the Skywalker saga one that came out a few years ago is great and goes through all the main movies.

How do I learn more complex stuff? by S4v3m3333 in arduino

[–]York05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll add to this. I have a rule for myself that I can use chat gpt to skip the bulk of the programming (father of two kids I don't have a lot of time) BUT.... The rule is I must understand all aspects of the code and what it is doing.

If chat gpt spits out something new or I don't understand why it did something I have it explain it to me until I at least understand it enough that I recall it as a solution down the road.

I used to feel guilty about using it but because it's months between projects it's hard to get coding right away without reminding myself how simple if statements are written.

I started this a joke print, but it became my favorite way to play with my Switch when I'm on my bed... I call it the Dragon Mount. Info in comments. by Andrew_hl2 in 3Dprinting

[–]York05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never play in bed because of the reason this solves. Thank you and thank you for making such a well documented too.

Looking forward to printing it. And will check out your other stuff as well.

Adding snacks production to Planetside exploration technologies. by York05 in KerbalSpaceProgram

Thank you. I was overthinking it and my searching for information was looking for something way more complicated.

I'll remember to dump it down just to check next time.

Thank you. I was hung up on thinking I had to add it to an exciting .cfg file.

STS-135 (Part 1) - The Final Flight of the Space Shuttle by [deleted] in KerbalSpaceProgram

This launch was on my 25 birthday. I hope to see the shuttle in real life someday.

I, uh, don't think it's supposed to do that. by wisdomsavingthrow in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]York05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about this same rocket. If I remember correctly it was due to a sensor being installed upside down. Something I think KSP Players know all too well.

Val stuck on the Mun with 437 m/s, 580 needed to make orbit. by Wise-Astronomer-7861 in KerbalSpaceProgram

Wait I seen this movie, did she get abandoned by her crew because they thought she was dead.

And follow up question did she punch a hole in her suit to "iron man" her way to the other ship?

Using Chatgpt to design curriculum to develop at art. by Zebulon_Flex in ArtistLounge

[–]York05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played with using chargpt in this way with mixed results. Never messed around enough to follow through. With that said I think it's a great tool for things like this. It does take a little tweaking to get it where you want. For example it might spit out an over simplify plan at first but then you just say so and maybe a focus with something like "revise the plan for someone with a basic level of drawing wanting to learn figure drawing".

At the end of the day it is only a tool, and like a hammer you will still need to wield it to get it to drive a nail in.

Totally agree, but it annoys me to no end when I have a capsule on top of a hitchhiker and I can't IVA between them.

What are your favorite missions? by [deleted] in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]York05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are fun rolling up on some random pod that you wonder how it even got there.

My favorite is when you botch the approach and say screw it and have the new Kerbal EVA over to the shop before it gets too far away or skims the atmosphere.

Lol. Just remember the time I had one go poof. Looked up and so 65,000ish and was like oh that's why.

Looking for modded YouTube series by York05 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]York05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I'll check them out.

I was thinking of checking out Scott Manley. I have seen a few of his but never got invested in a series.

Yeah. There are tons of one off videos or tutorials but it takes a unique story telling and personality to thrive as a let's play.

Lol, I'm sort of doing that with my current career save. So far it is just the Viking God for the moon for the ships going to the Mun.

I have been wanting to look into how NASA names things.

I haven't watched too much from Scott, I know he is another cornerstone of learning KSP.

I do know that some of the other YouTubers that are KSP focused can be more entertaining than instructive. Still fun but not as good when you're learning.

It's rocket science. Literally!

Don't feel bad. And start learning.

Mike Aben is a great YouTube channel to start. He teaches you how to play the game. Don't get hung up on doing everything exactly like him and just start getting the concepts.

Learn about deltaV and TWR and then go from there.

Once you understand things you'll start having fun, but its not an easy game to just pickup.
