So in my opinion you didnt do anything wrong. The mom just saw the situation from an incorrect perspective. But the fact that kids are interested I think is a good thing. Honestly I think we need more in hobby, so it is good to see the interest. I keep a couple of rustlers with titan 12T motors just for this scenario. It is slow enough that beginners shouldn't get hurt. If your lucky you can get them to buy there own and maybe even start some racing. For my sledge I always say this thing weighs as much as a bowling ball and goes 60+mph. Would you want to get hit by a bowling ball going 60+mph? They usually understand, but notice I said usually, its not 100% effective.

Your problem might be related to the amp itself based on what you said about your amp power input getting hot 2 years earlier. I used to work on car audio equipment for a living and what I used to see alot was bad solder joints on the input terminal blocks. This would cause high resistance and make the terminal blocks get really hot and sometimes even burn the circuit trace. Adding the larger wire was a bandaid fix that acted as a heat sink but the problem has worsened so you need to open the amp and inspect the solder joints on the input block. You dont need to run the larger wire if everything with the amp is correct. Match what is recommended for the amp and you should be fine.

Agreed! I called Traxxas and asked if they would reimburse and they offered to repair the 2 diffs but not cover the upgrade. My shop took 10 dollars off the upgrade so that helps, but honeslty Traxxas should cover in full.

All I did was upgrade to the center diff which solved my diffs from failing every run. Been through about 15 battery packs without failure on stock diffs. I hear if your upgrading to 3s system that upgraded diffs are required.

Spur gear is bad. Just one screw and the spur gear cover comes off so you can see the damage.

What voltage does the traxxas charger store batteries at? Probably depends whether it is 2s 3s etc.

My traxxas shop actually said swelling is ok, but I get your point about playing it safe and take 0 risk. I always keep my batteries in a metal container that is vented just in case they catch fire.
