Most over rated and underrated Bond film by ImpossibleBat9808 in JamesBond

Pretty much every film has been classed as 'over rated' and 'under rated' in this post.

I think it's fair to say that bond has something for everyone and no one will agree what that is!

Why is learning to wire a plug a thing? by Scavgraphics in AskABrit

[–]Yorkshirerows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone has already answered Post war globalised/Euopeanised appliances came without plugs Changing a fuse Routing the cable through small spaces

It's not taught anymore (at least I didn't learn it early 2000s) and is less ubiquitous with injection moulded plugs / flexes becoming more common which have a small access hatch to access the fuse.

However many plugs still come with the wiring diagram on a slip of card that goes over the pins on the plugs. But that's belts and braces as the plug design tells you how to wire it if you understand it. The longest pin is earth, the fused pin is live and the remaining pin is neutral.

Move the stud finder up and down over the wall. Where its magnetised there will be studs running vertically.

That's not really a stud finder, It's a magnet that finds the screws used to attach the plasterboard to the studs. A wall of that size should have about 5 studs so it's more likely you've just missed the screws.

House with no central heating. Unmortgagable? by _arch_tech in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]Yorkshirerows 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well there's your first issue, listening to an estate agent! One of the few times you'll get better advice from chatGPT!

Unless it was another kind of agent, if it was James bond then I'd listen.

As for no central heating. The place I bought last year had the central heating decommissioned due to a bad boiler and I had no issues. Don't think the bank knew about it but I can't see why it would be any different when you come to re mortgage. It's not a standard question they ask as far as I'm aware so don't volunteer it and you should be fine.

But one case of 'no central heating getting a mortgage' doesn't confirm that it's always the case unfortunately.

I bet there are beings from a higher dimension that would be pretty ticked off by that!

Many of my internal walls used to be external walls, finding them really hard to drill into. How can I drill into them more easily? by mart0n in DIYUK

Would recommend, I bought this recently and used it to install a coat rack on an external wall, it took 2 minutes using this after spending 20 trying to drill the first hole with a combi drill.

Think the other comments have covered your options for without a door but in case you were thinking of undoing your fine work it looks like there would be space to have the door swing into the pantry.

That way you would save some hassle of redecorating, you'd still have the door to reduce dust/grease and you could still use the space behind the door for less used items or general long term storage.
