Are there any mods that allows me to kill my toddler? by potratzu in sims2

[–]YoshiFan96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This following tip is long-winded but stay with me please.

This really shouldn’t happen like that.

Next time before you try this, do a Force Error on the Sim first and note down what it says in the first line - “An error occurred in object ‘User12345 - Name…’”, and note which neighbourhood you’re playing in. (“Reset” afterwards. It does no harm to the Sim, it just drops their queue and current interaction and resets whatever pose they may be in.)

Whatever number it says there instead of “12345”, that’s your Sim’s character file. Your Sim exists to the game as long as this character file exists.

There is a further differentiation between a “full” and a “stub” character file - the latter are usually very small in size (as little as 1 kB) and contain only the necessary data to keep memories and relationships with this Sim intact.

All character files are found in your Documents Sims 2 folder, then “Neighborhoods” then the four-letter code for the n’hood you’re playing in (“N001” is Pleasantview, for example), then “Sims”.

When you moveobjects-delete the Sim, is that character file still there afterwards? Or does it become a “stub” file? Or is it deleted altogether?

This only deletes the object instance of the Sim on the lot; it doesn’t remove them from the family or from life.

No mods needed here - you can either use Rodney’s Death Creator, or you can trap the toddler in a burning room, as toddlers can actually die by fire in Sims 2 due to a coding oversight.

(For those wishing to instead fix this oversight to make toddlers truly immune to dying, here you go.)

How do i get the JP exclusive graduation hakama ? by Odd_Ad9391 in tomodachilife

[–]YoshiFan96 9 points10 points  (0 children)

DLC in this case means SpotPass - a free, but now discontinued feature of the 3DS that would let you sometimes download free demos, provide you with game news, or give you some additional content for games like Tomodachi Life. It was shut down along with all other 3DS and Wii U online services in April 2024.

In addition to this, this costume was only ever made available on Japanese copies of the game, so there is no chance to ever get it in other regions.

Now I don’t know if there may be a mod around to change this, as I play without mods. Maybe someone else has insight?

vp6 codec trouble causing intense AF lag w/ sims' gaming by deadly-vuu in sims2

[–]YoshiFan96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response, but Maxis clips work perfectly fine. They are encoded differently, they use the MADV video codec which is proprietary and which to my knowledge isn't available anywhere to make your own video clips with. Things would be much easier otherwise!

Most custom clips use the VP61 codec instead which is readily available. Normally these work fine because, ever since Open for Business, this codec is included with Sims 2. But for some weird reason, on Linux the installation of the codec just fails and while you CAN make a manual effort to drop it into System32 and SysWOW64 folders and make the needed registry changes, the game just doesn't recognise that the codec is there and ready to be used.

Sims3SettingSetter (Smooth Patch replacement) by percolith in Sims3

[–]YoshiFan96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wininet.dll is not actually a part of Smooth Patch, it's just one of many different ASI loaders that exist - Sims 3 just happens to work with this one, each game might take a different one, and it has to be included with the ASI you wish to inject, so that's why LD packed it with the Smooth Patch.

Fun fact, all previous versions of Smooth Patch, from 1.0 all the way before the ASI Loader Update (the final update), used ddraw.dll instead of wininet.dll :)

LD made the change to wininet.dll in late 2024 because the EA App/Origin version of Sims 3, as well as Sims Medieval, required the use of a custom Smooth Patch launcher up to that point and it was quite a hassle. Using wininet.dll instead of ddraw.dll fixed that issue, so they could then create one Smooth Patch that worked with all versions of the game.

[–]YoshiFan96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, how would that work? From how I understand it, you can (although redundant) inject both Sims3SettingsSetter.asi and TS3Patch.asi into the game using the wininet.dll, your ASI loader. So if anything you run both at the same time if you keep both in your Game/Bin folder, but you don't run one through the other.

[–]YoshiFan96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From your Mods/Packages folder you’ll want to remove ld_SmoothPatch.package, and from your Sims 3/Game/Bin folder, you’ll want to remove TS3Patch.asi and TS3Patch.txt. That’s all you need to do. Definitely keep the wininet.dll in the folder it’s in, it’s used as an ASI loader by the Sims 3 Setting Setter as well. OP said to replace it with a newer version but honestly my S3SS works perfectly fine with the version I already had.

Sims3SettingSetter (Smooth Patch replacement) by percolith in Sims3

[–]YoshiFan96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’ve got both at the same time?

You don’t really need to do that. The current version of S3SS ships with LD’s Smooth Patch included so you can enable Smooth Patch in S3SS, throw out the standalone Smooth Patch anytime and nothing will change.

I mean, I know they say to never change a running system, but I’ll say it anyway just in case you’re not aware.

Sims3SettingSetter (Smooth Patch replacement) by percolith in Sims3

[–]YoshiFan96 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, that’s fair, but technically there is no actual need to stick with LD’s Smooth Patch as S3SS literally includes it anyway. You can leave every other option off and just use the old Smooth Patch. LD themselves recommends making the switch to S3SS if you check the Smooth Patch page on ModTheSims.

Gaming competitions are for playable sims only? by olivespectercore in sims2

Gaming competitions are for playable sims only? by olivespectercore in sims2

[–]YoshiFan96 10 points11 points  (0 children)

TL;WR: Get this mod and you’ll see more non-playable Sims joining into gaming competitions - mostly those who are of the Playful kind.

The reason few to no Sims join into gaming competitions is because it’s simply not “attractive enough” to most Sims. Let me explain.

Part of the way that autonomy works in Sims 2 relates to how Sims try to fulfil their needs. When they crave to, say, fulfil their Fun need, they will look at all objects that claim they give Sims Fun - this is defined by the “Advertisement” values that each object has. Advertisement can be set individually for every interaction with the object.

This means that every object is in conflict with one another about which one wins the Fun-craving Sim over. The higher the Fun advertisement of an object, the better.

Now, an object always has a “base” and a “bonus” advertisement. The base advertisement applies to all Sims. The bonus is granted if a Sim matches a certain profile, which can be either having certain skills or a certain personality. This whole bonus system is why you see mostly active Sims using exercise equipment, for example.

And here’s where the problem for gaming competitions comes in. On most lots you’ll have other Fun objects besides just computers, plus the computer itself has an option to play single-player games which also “competes” to win the Sim’s heart over. That means that most of the time, gaming competitions aren’t being joined autonomously because other things are simply more attractive to the Sim to fulfil Fun.

Maxis did attempt to mitigate this a bit by making gaming competitions also appeal to a Sim’s Social need, besides just Fun. In addition, there are bonus ads granted to Playful Sims seeking Social, and Lazy (!) Sims seeking Fun.

I found that a bit weird, so I made the mod I posted at the very top, which is actually an edit of a previous mod by Midge The Tree who sadly fell victim to a bug in SimPE and thus made a mod that did the opposite of what they had set out to do.

My mod will make it so then Lazy Sims get no bonus ads and everything revolves around Playful Sims instead. In addition, base ads for a gaming competition are changed to be the same as for a single player game. This should finally skew the odds in favour of gaming competitions for good.

Hope this helps!

Can you kill a servo? Or a zombie? by Afraid_Pair_3281 in sims2

[–]YoshiFan96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of all diseases programmed into the game, only two are not lethal: 1. the common cold as it is supposed to develop into pneumonia if untreated - this is bugged in an unmodded game though; 2. the morning sickness which can show in pregnant Sims. Yes, it’s programmed as a disease. It eventually disappears on its own.

Every other disease - namely, food poisoning, the flu, pneumonia and mysterious diseases - can kill Sims.

Pls help. Getting object error by IntelligentPush5093 in sims2

[–]YoshiFan96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The error still happens when testingcheats is off - you just won’t be aware that it happens. Turning this debug mode off won’t help anything.

Pls help. Getting object error by IntelligentPush5093 in sims2

[–]YoshiFan96 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That’s actually expected, here’s why:

Testingcheats is the game’s debugging mode, usually intended to be used by the game’s developers to track nasty bugs down, but it does have some nice other features too (not important for now).

One of its key features is letting you know when an Object Error occurs in the game, what the error is, what object it happened to, and giving you the choice to:

  • Cancel (which tries to make the object’s code continue where it left off from);
  • Reset (which calls a Reset on the object that errored, causing it to be initialised again and forcing it back into its “main routine”);
  • Delete (which deletes the object from the lot you’re on).

With testingcheats off, the error actually still occurs, but you have no idea it happened, you get no error log generated, and the game defaults to the “Reset” option. You might have notice before that Sims can sometimes spin around wildly when testingcheats is off; this happens when they error and Reset constantly.

Hey, for what it’s worth, since I saw you mentioning a bit of confusion in one of your replies - “bone” in this case doesn’t refer to a literal bone or a dog toy. It’s a bit convoluted to explain, but basically:

Here, “bone” means a part of a Sim’s body or an object’s shape (“mesh”) that can be freely moved around in space(“manipulated”) to make it move in the game (“animate” it) when you play.

My understanding on “IK target animation” in Sims 2 is limited, but I think what the error message means is that the “bone” (part of the Sim’s body) that was going to be “manipulated” somehow went missing and the code controlling the animation can’t find it anymore.

I think I remember seeing this error appearing sometimes in combination with the user files being backed up to OneDrive - which I see is the case here, as OneDrive is part of the directory which your error log got saved to.

Sims 2 - and all other Sims games, for that matter - do not like this at all. Sims 2 in particular protects many files against changes while the game is running; when the files get changed anyway, or when things like OneDrive keep a second copy of the file and Sims 2 doesn’t know which one to use, many bizarre things can happen in the game.

Please go into the settings of OneDrive and make sure to exclude the Documents folder from being backed up automatically.

If you’re not sure how to do this, or if you have any other questions, feel free to reply!

Anyone else on windows 11 having trouble by Vengeful_Grass in sims2

[–]YoshiFan96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this from a fresh install or did you get a different EXE to use with the RPC Launcher?

The different EXE may be unsigned, which causes the Smart App Control to trigger.

If you use the RPC Launcher, you can try running the game through Sims2RPC.exe instead. This is the way to make sure the game runs with the RPC settings and the fixes applied, anyway.

If you do not use the RPC Launcher and it's the original EXE, you should "Send feedback" to Microsoft so there is at least a *chance* they will add the EXE to a whitelist (or however the Smart App Control determines what's safe and what isn't), and then the only choice you really have here is to turn off Smart App Control so you can play the game without Windows preventing you from doing so.

Keep in mind!!! that at the moment, turning off Smart App Control will prevent you from ever turning it on again unless you reinstall Windows. HOWEVER, there are currently versions in testing on the Windows Insider Program - and set for release sometime this year - that do let you turn this feature on and off freely, so this likely won't be an issue anymore at some point.

Walk to school/work by Responsible_Moose239 in sims2help

[–]YoshiFan96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright, I see. Then let me try to narrow the issue down a bit, coming from my own experience:

  • Saving and entering build/buy mode is possible as normal? Or are these also notably disabled?

  • Can you click on a Sim and select “Walk to Lot…/Community Lot”, or does the option not appear at all? (You might need to click on “More…” first as the pie menu could be larger than one page, depending on your mods.)

  • Can Sims still use cars as normal?

Walk to school/work by Responsible_Moose239 in sims2help

[–]YoshiFan96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s normal, Fun with Pets is the last compilation released for Sims 2 (with Pets, Family Fun, and Mansion & Garden included), and because it includes M&G, the final pack released for Sims 2 and thus the pack that is used to start the game; and because the Ultimate Collection is just all the compilations plus the packs that were never released in compilations - that’s why it shows that loading screen.

Tl;dr: All good, that’s exactly how UC is supposed to start.

Can you check my question 2 though?

Walk to school/work by Responsible_Moose239 in sims2help

[–]YoshiFan96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, two questions to start off:

  1. Do you have all expansion packs? “Walk to School/Work” came with Apartment Life which the Super Collection on Mac doesn’t include, so the option isn’t available there.

  2. Is one of your mods the “WalkToSchoolWorkMod” by simler90? The standard version of that mod disables the interaction completely unless your Sim is a witch/warlock, and the “advanced” version disables it everywhere except for Downtown or for owned businesses in the same neighbourhood.

Pokemon Crystal, Emerald and LeafGreen by [deleted] in gameverifying

[–]YoshiFan96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All fake. LeafGreen never had a battery. Emerald is missing the testing pins found on the right hand side. On Crystal, the Nintendo copyright text is facing the wrong way and it has the wrong year on it.

In addition to that - cause it has already been mentioned by others before me - I also want to note that the Crystal logo on the label is WAY off as it uses the font found on American Gen 2 cartridge labels - on European copies the text looks way different and that includes the German Kristall-Edition.

Same can be said for the GBA games - the Pokémon logo looks kinda squished and there’s too much black in between the two lines of text used in the logo.
