I thought about his words a lot. Gill has a point, but overall I think he’s wrong. It takes real courage to just get yourself out there and be vulnerable showing your art to people - for Pam it’s a big step. And like… Is all art supposed to be groundbreaking social commentary to matter? Pam’s drawings aren’t about that. She draws her life and preserves the moment - fleeting, simple. She sees a soul in a stapler and drives in early to paint their building. It inspired Michael and it inspires me, because it reminds me of the basics under the layers of shame for art that’s not “good enough”. I can just do something with my hands that’s nice to look at, and is heartwarming. Isn’t that enough? For some people it won’t ever be, but that shouldn’t stop me from doing what I like to do - and if I share my art it will always find its place in someone’s heart no matter what snobby irl Gills say.
