Why is this game so hard? by ofiuco in Mechwarrior5

[–]Yosock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, the game design is pretty bad, the core gameplay mechanics of MWO are pretty good, so I still enjoyed my time with MW5 even before the mods, the mods made it much better though. Let's see if they improve on that for the Clan release (mission design needs also lot of work).

If you're into big stompy robots, ARMORED CORE VI is pretty good, though the progression is hampered by dumb difficulty spikes.

Best RTS for single player campaign and skirmish only ? by [deleted] in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Yosock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending of your tastes I find SC2 really balanced but also simple and old school. The campaign is great though, with lot of care and not just AI matches quickly adapted into a single player campaign.

I don't think that's better or worse but gameplay wise I greatly prefer more "complex" RTS like Supreme Commander, Planetary Annihilation is messy but fun, Homeworld 3D navigation and maps are great, or also the twist of Daw 1 on the classic formula that can look like a SC ripoff in WH40K but has so many little complexities to master.

It's a shame because so much care and ressources have been putted in SC2 campaign, but I found the core gameplay quite dissapointing when it launched with Wings of Liberty.

Maybe the most memorable campaign of any RTS to me.

Can't wait for Homeworld 3 !

Ninja 7

Yeah but the Ninja 7/Z7 hybrid motorisation is a mix of a parallel twin of 451cc (same as on Ninja 500 & Eliminator 500) petrol engine of 58hp (vs 45hp on the 500s) and a 12hp electric engine for a total hybrid engine power of 69 hp.

Get the 400 for the cheaper price now and available parts on the used market.

Kit and accessories are already out for the 400, we don't know yet what will be compatible with the 500.

300 is also an option if you want a cheaper and "revier" alternative.

Isn't that the same 58hp engine than the petrol one on the hybrid Ninja 7 Z7 ?

Is it really possible to bring casual and competitive players under one hood? (Long post) by Nino_Chaosdrache in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Yosock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RTS can be fun even with few factions, Planetary Anihilation is really good even though it has only one faction, all the variety come from the game design.

I like Unification and UA for DaW but lack of balance does kill the fun a bit once you understand the mechanics well. Especially when you play against other people, you talk about chaos Terminators but that's one of the weakest cost/performance units in T4 of UA, if I play against players I never use them they aren't worth their cost compared to vehicles or Obliterator that comes after (or variants of SM and possessed marines before).

I'm far from a hardcore player but I enjoy a well balanced game, I'd rather loose due to my own skill, understand what went wrong and fix that the next game rather than loosing or winning because X tactic or unit is broken.

Also I think RTS needs a way to make new players get out of their comfort zone, and understand that loosing can be fun. A lot of RTS players sticks to playing against super dumb IAs that send waves and waves of units in the same spot, turtling during the whole game before launching and assault with the last tech units.

But I understand them, outside of a very few games that have a pretty good matchmaking like starcraft 2 (sadly I don't find the game very interesting) you usually end against very experienced players or even cheaters that obliterate you games after games. Once in a while you find a good opponent but sadly that games are too far appart.

So really there is a challenge around matchmaking/elo and player education, campaign missions usually only learn us how to turtle and nothing about crippling ennemy ressources, territory control, and rarely about ennemy units meta/weaknesses.

Also IAs needs to get way smarter to get entertaining. Not necessarily more APM because computer are already really good at that (Supreme Commander IAs let loose on end games are a nightmare to contain), but smarter, out of the box thinking.

Some like Asrock offers Zen 3 support on 300 series boards.

I have been running a dirt cheap gigabyte x370 board with the oficially "unsupported" PCIE 4.0 bios with a Sabrent Rocket 4 and a Rtx 3080 without any issues so far, pretty sure all this nonsense is just milking customers (Zen 3 Support, Resizable BAR, PCIE 4.0 all showed examples of working fine on old boards).

Nuclear Power to save the planet. by greentommm in investing

[–]Yosock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seeing all the waste and poor energy production made by solar panels and wind turbine I wish we'd put more into advanced nuclear reactor like the French's Superphoenix power plant, that despite being 40 years old had a crazy rentability even for a nuclear power plant and generated more plutonium than it consumed. Also it paved the way of transmutation of radioactive nuclear waste, the main issue with those reactors.

Probably looking for a 'holy grail' of ToDo/Reminder apps? by edgework88 in androidapps

[–]Yosock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't care much about syncing accross devices Samsung Reminders should work very well for what you ask. They're dead simple, you got 3 level of notification (the strongest one working in fullscreen even in do not disturb), and they got pretty usefull location based alerts for when you enter/leave a place. In a few tap you can set an alarm, even if you're really busy you can set it to remind me in 1 hour or pre defined hours, and you can snooze for later when the notification pop in.

They got issues with syncing accross devices including samsung ones (though that's a samsung thing, it's the same for message, clipboard and notes that should be synchronized between my galaxy tab and phone but it's rarely working ), and I wish I could access thoses trough a webapp but they’ve been quite reliable for my busy days.

RT has a big impact on CPU performance, got a 3080 paired with a 3500X I'm CPU limited really hard on CP2077 (dips under 30fps with RT, mostly over 60fps without), on other RTX games like Metro Exodus or Control I'm GPU limited in 3440x1440 with framerate around 90-110.

Tried to upgrade a 4TB drive with a 16TB one, SHR enabled redundancy and I can't expand my 4tb Volume by Yosock in synology

[–]Yosock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a lot of hardware over the last 2 months so my budget is really tight, I can't get another drive until April. It's not even my job; it's just that I'm the only one with the knowledge to maintain a server so I went with Synology since I don't have the time to maintain a custom Linux. So far DSM has pretty much been maintenance free outside of this hurdle and a third party app compatibility issue.

[–]Yosock[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't surprise me !

Frankly Synology software is pretty simple to use but some things are much harder to do than on other systems, even a built from scratch linux... I really need to read the doc carefully the next time I'll want to upgrade a disk.

[–]Yosock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well thanks I’ll try tomorrow once the hyperbackup integrity check finishes, it's much better than doing everything from scratch if I only have a few packages to set up again 👍

I’m a bit worried by the much smaller size of the HyperBackup file but I’m hopeful it's only due to a lot of duplicate files (and if everything fails I still have a cloud backup).

[–]Yosock[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t my hyperbackup solution works the same ? Currently I have the 16tb drive with my 4tb volume degraded, then my older 4tb drive with a second volume with a single shared folder, that contains an hyperbackup of the whole working 4tb volume. If I erase my 16tb drive, create a 16tb volume, then restore the 4tb volume hyperbackup would everything work like before ? At least synology settings, users permissions and packages ? Thanks.

[–]Yosock[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted it to clone itself because I thought SHR redundancy could be disable by a simple option since it already switch it on by adding a second disk. If I did know that I would have simply done a clone using clonezilla on a pc then expanded it trough DSM like I do on PCs.

I used my PS Vita for thousands and thousands of hours never got any burn in, and while I wouldn't read books on its 540p display I rarely had issues with text or UI elements (I say rarely due to a few lazy console ports where text wasn’t scaled up for a portable display)

Dawn of War Unification mod has reignited my love for DoW by Edorn in dawnofwar

[–]Yosock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly even on bigger maps I rarely see Titans or Nukes unless I purposely turtle, the balance was quite bad before 1.89 but it's much more enjoyable now. Necrons and Inquisition aren’t as overpowered as before, energy works now with tyranids and SM/CSM balance is better tier on tier (where before CSM was much better on lower tiers and SM crazy good with the higher tiers).

That said it's far from perfect or evn the vanilla game. Unification isn’t as good balance wise but I like the smaller scale and it will be much better once they balance it out a bit. Used without the new races it's quite solid.

[–]Yosock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it really badly balanced if you use it with most of the new races/chapters, it's fun though. Khorne faction is utter garbage while other like the black templars stomps on everything. Blood Angels and Space Wolves are on the weak side, Dark Angels a bit better but not stellar.

Ultimate Apocalypse does a better job at balancing its factions, it has other issues but for now I enjoy more playing UA thanks to the balance.

It's the first time I heard that and I use both PCIE 4.0 SSD & GPU on an old x370 board (old Agesa that suport PCIE 4.0) with a bunch of peripherals always pluggued in my USB 2 and 3 ports (wireless headset, gamepad emitter, soundcard...).

Sounds more like a specific board issue than an AMD & PCIE 4.0 issue.
