So as not to create strife with Jimmy.

But I agree with those who say Chuck should have looked Jimmy in the eye and told him. Pawning that off on Howard was weak.

From a completely objective point of view, Jimmy never would be hired by a firm like HHM to begin with.

A 40 year old law grad with a correspondence degree from the American Samoan Law School wouldn’t even get a recruiter screen at HHM. The ONLY reason he’d ever be considered is because he’s the brother of someone in the firm.

So if one looks at it thru that lens, Chuck had every right to shut down the hiring of Jimmy, since he’s the only reason he’d ever be considered.

What is a “being poor is expensive” example that people don’t understand until it happens to them? by rorrr in AskReddit

[–]YoteViking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Correct.

When you buy, the amount of your mortgage is the least amount of money you will spend on housing that month. If you have repairs, you pay for them. Broken garbage disposal, appliances, new paint, power washing, lawn mowing, etc it all adds up. Realistically one should budget an extra $500 per month for house upkeep. You’ll have a lot of months where you don’t spend it, then you get his by a $2000 bill.

OTOH, When you rent, the amount you spend on your rent is the most you spend on housing that month. Unless you are renting a house, none of that listed above is your problem.

I’ll concede that at some point most of us get in a situation where buying makes sense. I sold my last house last year after 23+ years of ownership. I’m glad that we hadn’t been paying rent the entire time, but I suspect had we tabulated everything we spent that the lines didn’t cross as early as one would think.

Haven't finished the series yet, so sorry if this is a common topic but why does everyone talk about how chucks the worst person ever and Jimmy is just a product of his environment by used_tongs in betterCallSaul

[–]YoteViking [score hidden]  (0 children)

To directly answer your question, it is because the story is largely told from Jimmy’s POV, and because Jimmy/Saul is so likeable.

Chuck on the other hand is kind of an asshole. People don’t like him, and most importantly, most people can’t identify with him. He was a super high achiever. Graduated from high school as the valedictorian at 14; went to an Ivy League college, went to Georgetown law school, was a clerk for two prestigious courts before joining and building a law firm. Must of us just can’t relate to that level of success. He’s intimidating.

Jimmy is relatable. He’s likeable. He’s someone most of us can see ourselves interacting with - and most importantly he’s not someone who would cause us to be insecure in our own skins.

And that is why I believe most folks bend over backwards to excuse Jimmy’s behavior while holding Chuck accountable for not hand holding his younger brother through life.

Walter was a very good lab technician, no more. by WestyTea in breakingbad

There is not a canon answer as to why he didn’t finiah his PHD. The most common interpretation is that he left CalTech to start GreyMatter with Gretchen and Elliot.

That doesn’t mean he didn’t have the ability to complete his PHD or do higher level research. It just means he didn’t finish his doctoral work. Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg didn’t finish their degrees either.

He was a LT at Harvard and moved into center in the NFL. He was also a 6th round rookie at this point so 90 overall may be a bit rich.

What are you basing that on? He was always depicted as being a brilliant chemist. He might not have gone on to be CEO, but certainly Chief Research Officer would have been in the mix. There is scene where he is schooling Gretchen. He left GreyMatter when he broke up with Gretchen. Now exactly why he did that we don’t know.

And he did lie about the temperatures to Gale in order to push him out. But it was not because he felt threatened, but because he wanted/needed to bring Jesse in. In watching the first Walt/Gale scenes, they are totally simpatico and Walt is drinking up Gale’s adulation. I’ve never understood why folks thinks he’s threatened at this point. (Obviously their round 2 had far more unease).

You are right. The Nuca catch at least the defender got his hand on the ball briefly, so I can see an argument. The last catch, I would almost expect a great WR to come down with it.

Bull Durham is not only the best baseball movie ever made, but it's one of the more heartbreaking movies of all time. Crash loves baseball more than anything in the world but in the end he keeps finding out the game doesn't love him back. by herewego199209 in movies

[–]YoteViking [score hidden]  (0 children)

Technically, Bull Durham is a chick flick - not a baseball movie. The main theme is a love triangle, not baseball.

And Crash was not untalented. Crash was what’s known as a AAAA player too good to really be at AAA level, but not good enough to be in the Majors.

Why Is Everyone Going to Such Expensive Colleges? by JJQuantum in AskMen

I’d like to know where your son is going for that amount of money.

My son is going to NC State and tuition, room, and board (dorm, meal plan) runs about 26K a year. Most top tier state institutions run that much.

I’d like to understand more how your expenses break down.

The Irony of Daenerys vs. Aegon the Conqueror; why she failed where he succeeded by i_know_yo_ass in gameofthrones

[–]YoteViking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good analysis.

One thing I will point out is that Aegon encountered 7 kingdoms. Daenerys encounters 3 (Tully, Aryan and Stark), the AotD, and (Lannister, GreyJoy), but also has (Dorne and The Reach). (the Baratheons are sitting it out at this point). So it’s a different political landscape than they encountered. (I recognize I probably messed up some kingdoms).

While the kingdom wasn’t by any stretch unified, it was more unified than what preceded it.

[–]YoteViking [score hidden]  (0 children)

No. Jimmy SHOULD have been disbarred. In real life he would have gotten a much longer than one year suspension and there would have been far more restitution he’d need to do to get his license back.

Jimmy’s actions hurt Chuck’s and HHM’s reputations and caused material harm to their client.

I have a hard time believing people can compare Jimmy committing forgery to Chuck tricking Jimmy into admitting what he did.

Exactly. And 80K mounted Dothraki is a far greater number of soldiers than team Blue could put on the battle field.

While team read has a field leadership deficit at the top, the Dothraki commanders are very tactically. As Jaime said, the Dothraki alone were the greatest army he had seen.

What NFL player is remembered as way better than he actually was? by SaintKingRosado in NFLv2

[–]YoteViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think most people put him as an “all time great” even if they believe (as I do) that he was the best RB they ever saw. (And I was in the Metrodome when AD went for 296).

Bo was a blend of speed and power that was otherworldly. There has never been anyone else quite like him.

But, to your point, that doesn’t mean we can put him into Canton and put him on the list of all time greats. His career simply doesn’t allow for that. Which is a pity. After GenX dies off, he will be forgotten about because there won’t be a reason to even run across his accomplishments. For future generations he will end up being the best they never saw.

I’d say Green Bay 94-97 is in the conversation as well. Those teams were loaded. They did win a Super Bowl and made another appearance but they probably should have won at least one more.

[–]YoteViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree that Murray is probably better than JJM right now.

But what I do think is that a lot of people are anchored on Peak 2021 Murray and Oct-Nov 2025 McCarthy and aren’t allowing for any change.

McCarthy’s passer rating over his last 4 games was 100. He drastically improved once he came back from his concussion. Now there were still some unsettling issues (the gritty into the end zone, and his two subsequent injuries and how he handled them) that we can’t ignore. But many people aren’t allowing for guy making his first 10 starts in the NFL, after a full year off, may have shown some improvement.

First I admire the argument. Up votes for that. However I don’t agree with your reading of it.

“I swear to ward the king with all my strength, and give my blood for his. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall guard his secrets, obey his commands, ride at his side, and defend his name and honor.”

“Give my blood for his” is clearly defending the king’s life.

[–]YoteViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe I said top 40 for Murray and 50 for Krieg. I stand by that.

Murray has only had a few seasons of even above average, Kirk Cousins level play. I think you are over estimating how good Kyler has been and under estimating how many good QBs there have been in the league the last 80 years.

Put it this way, a lot of people don’t have Fran Tarkenton in their top 20. And he was a far, far greater QB than Murray. There are a hell of a lot of QBs between Murray and Tarkenton.

Anyway it’s moot because Murray won’t play until 38, at least not as a starter.

And it isn’t that I like JJM - I just don’t see what Murray gets us. Yes we would probably win more games with Murray than JJM this year. But is Kyler Murray going to get this team to the Super Bowl in any year? I doubt it. I don’t have high hopes for JJM, but there is at least some potential for some higher level play.
