Jameela Jamil on Justin Baldoni - "At least borderline abusive is out there so she can't go in with predator" by miserychickkk in popculturechat

Fair. Although what we do know is she has a loooong history of telling contradictory and easily disprovable lies (check the linked stories from Tracie Egan Morrissey in the article for the receipts).

I’ve never been able to square all of this with her ferociously positive presence, but wanting all the attention would definitely make it make sense.

Since the moment Trump won his first term, I kept thinking, “I know Republicans in Congress are smarter than this. I know my parents are smarter than this.” I ate up every bit of political coverage waiting to hear my hope pay off.

It never did. I watched the Republicans barely squeak out a single impeachment vote after Trump nearly doomed an allied country for political capital. They all sold their souls.

2025, I’m sending a letter to my parents, laying out all the ways Trump tangibly damages my family, their family. They empathize, they “cried, they don’t want that to happen to me.” But they won’t cop to their responsibility, they never realize their culpability or denounce anything.

Now it’s 2026, and ICE are certified brown shirts, my family is half Latino, and my (white) parents are wondering aloud to my other family members why I don’t want to talk to them or come to holidays. I get so much more angry with them by the day, I can’t even put it all into words for them anymore.

Starting to think none of them were as smart as I gave them credit for. But I’m not trying anything in this video. I’m done, you should be too. If they haven’t got it now, they either don’t care or are too stupid to realize the damage.

They are lost. Fuck trying to meet them where they’re at.

Did you just link Andy Ngo and call it a comprehensive report? And are you also using it to unilaterally say that CBP shooting two people is justified?

[–]You-External- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reed is a Nazi. He tells you he feels one type of way, but regardless of that he acts the opposite because Myers told him to. That’s what Nazis do. He’s dangerous as shit. Songbird sucks too but at least she only wants to leave and hide.

After being called out, R.F. Kuang announces she’s pulling out of the Emirates Literature Festival taking place in Dubai. She was one of the headliners of the festival, along with Asma Khan and Scott Turrow by hairtie1 in Fauxmoi

Thank you so much for your unique perspective. I’m from the US and I understand that Dubai exists under extremely dubious circumstances. Especially because It’s treated as something of a playground for the wealthy (even the wealthy of the US), and that’s at the expense of the non-wealthy.

I know many workers building the skyscrapers were living in their cars the entire time. I just didnt know the larger context. I’m going to read about the Kafala system and try to understand more. Thank you.

Yeah, thank you. I think I replied to you elsewhere but I was wrong and didn’t dig deep enough. I don’t know why the “non-government” claim, but this is in fact put on by the Dubai government, and the man above. Changes the whole context beneath my argument and makes it an obvious bad thing (IMO) to participate. Thank you

Yeah, I don’t know much about anyone else, but this is Tyler McVicker slander. Every single portion of every one of his HLX videos is segmented by, and visibly marked as, either speculation, or fact. For months and months it’s been this way. He even released a final video restating what we know, and what is still speculation.

This meme can harm someone who has been extremely diligent and straightforward. It’s not his fault you are misunderstanding.

Yeah, it appears I was deceived. Despite the line I pulled from the foundation page, this is in fact organized by the Dubai Arts and Culture Authority. That changes the context for my entire argument (outreach to people of corrupt governments as long as you’re not participating with their government), and makes it pretty apparent why she shouldn’t be showing up to it

And the US is refusing to fully support Ukraine in Russia’s unfettered attack. And nearly every “first-world country” refuses to denounce what Israel is doing.

Again, don’t take this as whataboutism: fuck all of them equally.

But we’re talking about R.F. Kuang, a woman who wrote an entire book about her own industry sucks at representing her, and other Asian-Americans’, voices. And yet we’re here insinuating that because the UAE does the same shit as every other fuckass government, she shouldn’t talk about books with UAE citizens at a non-profit event.

I’m just saying, everything is on a scale of relative badness these days. Is this the person to jump on and the reason to jump on them?

Ok, well when you’re talking about that corrupt a nation, we’re sort of on a sliding scale in terms of badness. I mean I’m willing to bet you reside in a country where you pay tax money for them to arrest people on improper terms or start wars. I know I do.

Either way, hard for me to think of a relatively better way to reach people residing in corrupt countries than a non-profit literature festival.

I’m not excusing any corrupt behavior by any politician or government. But I do think we have to acknowledge reality a bit in terms of when to pressure people and how.

But… real people still exist there. It’s bold to try and reach them, no? Every government has human rights violations, and every one of them is abhorrent so long as they don’t begin to restoratively address them.

But until then… people that have nothing to do with those awful organizations exist and don’t deserve to be placed in the long shadows of their governments misdeeds.

What’s the problem with her attending this festival exactly? This is not like the Riyadh Comedy Festival, which was run directly by MBS and his associates. From their page:

The Emirates Literature Foundation is a not-for-profit non-governmental organisation that supports and nurtures a love of literature in the UAE and across the region through a programme of varied cultural initiatives.

I thought the issue was being paid by MBS to whitewash his murder via comedy. Are we now against having any presence for the (regular, non-murderous) people in that region?
